How to use a vole repellent

Updated: October 2026

A fresh heap in a soft lawn, with a solar stake or a small bottle still on the patio, leaves the distances on the box arguing with each other. This is how to use a vole repellent from the amazon.co.uk listings in this comparison, as they stood on 15 October 2026. You follow the spacing bullet on your own unit, the charge line where a listing prints one, and the week-to-four-weeks wait those listings describe. Prices and the ten-product table sit on the [vole repellent comparison](/hub/pest-control/vole-repellent). Naming the animal, including a water vole on a ditch bank, stays on the [vole repellent buying guide](/hub/pest-control/vole-repellent/sub/vole-repellent-buying-guide).

Use the spacing on your listing, not the maximum-range field

These stakes do not share a gap, so you pace the bullet on the unit in your hand. Slexunilee (B0H23P7Q68) claims a circle about 20 metres across, against a 650 metre field. BOJYS Umr-001-4BX (B0H83M8NW4) claims about a 15 metre radius and up to 650 square metres, against a 450 metre field. BOJYS Umr-001-8JX (B0H83N512T) says about every 96 feet and prints both 20 seconds and 40 seconds. Nitoer (B0H8R4PGC6) says about every 50 feet, matching its 15.24 metre field. TOPsic Mru-002 (B0HH3KMQWD) says about every 70 feet and claims up to 7,000 square feet beside a 650 metre field. BAI-LUU (B0H93JWCTG) claims up to 3,000 square feet and a 300 metre field, with no shorter gap you can borrow. Treat those long figures as untested. On several listings the pieces field says 1 while the title says 4 or 8.

Sun, charge, and how you push a stake in

Put the stake where the panel gets full sun, clear of fence shade and soil. Nitoer says two days of charge before first use, then claims up to four days once charged. Its power field reads ac_dc, which clashes with a solar stake, so charge it in the sun before you push it in. BAI-LUU reads Electric in the power field while the bullets say solar. The housing is a screw type. Where your bullet never mentions the hole, Coopers of Stortford and the Lodi-UK RACAN sheet use a pilot hole and tell you not to hammer the tube. Their 25 metre radius stays on their sheets. If your listing is silent on the two-day charge, give the panel real sun and skip a wait you made up. Slexunilee prints IP65 and says not to use the stake in heavy rain. TOPsic Mru-004 (B0HH3KBCGX) prints IP66 in the title and IP65 in a bullet.

Pouches and the concentrate

KQPNMJ pouches are placed, with no charge and no two-day sit in the sun. The listing claims up to 12 square metres and 60 to 90 days. Twelve square metres is a small bed beside a 20 metre stake circle, so a pouch on a stake grid follows the wrong sheet. Crystal Opus is the concentrate. The title says the 30 ml makes 10 litres. Shake the bottle, dilute as that listing says, and reapply. Reviewers describe spraying again, including every couple of days. The listing covers indoor and outdoor use. Keep the spray off bats and hedgehogs, and off a ditch bank. No listing here gives a pet-exposure interval, so keep pouches and diluted spray off a dog or cat path until you have read the label.

How long to wait, and when to stop

About a week to about four weeks is the window these listings use. The BOJYS 8-pack (B0H1HWD11C) says wait about a week. BAI-LUU says about four weeks. Nitoer comments include several UK notes of fewer molehills after about two or three weeks, and at least one note of no difference. It is not a garden trial. The Royal Horticultural Society says an electronic device may only move the mole to another part of the garden. After the window, shift the same stake onto the fresh heaps. Eaten tulips or bark need mesh and guards, on vole repellent for lawn or bulbs. Stop if the ground may hold a water vole. GOV.UK guidance says you must not block access to shelter, so a vegetated bank beside slow water stays untouched. Packing, gassing, or poisoning a burrow sits outside this how-to.

Common questions

How far apart do I put the stakes?
Use the shorter bullet on your own listing: about 15 or 20 metres, or about every 50, 70, or 96 feet, on the box that names that figure. Leave 450 metres and 650 metres off the tape.
Do I charge a solar stake before I push it in?
Follow the charge line on your box. Nitoer asks for two days in full sun before first use, then claims up to four days, even though its power field says ac_dc. Other UK sheets often add a pilot hole and no hammer. Their longer gaps stay on their sheets.
How long until I should see a change?
Wait about a week on the BOJYS 8-pack line, or about four weeks on the BAI-LUU line. Some Nitoer reviewers mention fewer molehills after two or three weeks, and at least one saw no change. That comment is not a trial.
What do I do with the 650 m number?
Treat 650 metres as an untested maximum-range field on Slexunilee and TOPsic Mru-002. On the BOJYS four-pack, 650 square metres is an area claim beside a 15 metre radius, and the range field there is 450 metres. Install by the shorter bullet on the unit you hold.
Can I leave an IP65 stake out in heavy rain?
Only if your own bullet allows it. Slexunilee prints IP65 and still says to keep the stake out of heavy rain. TOPsic Mru-004 prints both IP66 and IP65, and neither mark was soak-tested for this page. Bring it in for the downpour.
When do I stop and call someone?
Stop if a bank beside slow water might shelter a water vole, if you were about to block, gas, or poison a burrow, or if the bank is giving way. GOV.UK says not to block access to shelter. Bulbs and stripped bark belong with a barrier, not another stake radius.
