Best slug pellets UK: which tub to order

Updated: 23 October 2026

You want one tub for the hostas or the salad bed, and the stars are pulling you towards the dearest pack. A 4.5 on a shared review pool can look stronger than a 4.4 from several thousand people, and a multipack can look cheap until the tubs arrive half empty. This page names a top pick and a best value from the nine amazon.co.uk listings in our [slug pellets comparison](/hub/pest-control/slug-pellets), and it says who should skip each. Shelf prices are the 19 October 2026 scrape. We did not run a lab test. If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

How this pick was chosen

The Products Compared editorial team used three checks: a named ferric phosphate line, the size of the amazon.co.uk review sample, and whether that sample belongs to one ASIN. A shared pool counts once. Price per claimed 100 g is the value test, and it loses if reviewers say the tubs were not full. Pet-friendly bullets are claims, which is why dogs and hedgehogs stay on slug pellets, pets and wildlife. The metaldehyde ban and the gram rates sit on the slug pellets buying guide. Which? has named Growing Success Advanced in its account of ferric phosphate. That is not a rank of these ASINs. In the scrape, Provanto sat at number 1 in Slug & Snail Control.

Top pick: Provanto 800 g

The top pick is Provanto Slug & Snail Killer Max, 800 g, ASIN B09RQQT8GY, about £7.32 in the 19 October 2026 scrape. Ferric phosphate is named, with an OF&G claim and a rain-resistant line for vegetables, flowers and ornamentals. The review line is 4.4 from 6,699 ratings, shared with the two-pack B0F2TV3MFJ, and it is still the largest sample here. It fits if you want one pot and you will read the carton for the dose. Reviewers describe the damage stopping without bodies on the path. The bullets do not print grams per square metre. A coverage claim of up to 210 square metres is about 3.8 g if you divide it. Skip this tub if you need the gram rate on the listing. On 21 October 2026 the page had no featured offer.

Value pick: Pestshield four-pack

The best value is Pestshield's four tubs of 300 g, ASIN B0849YQB36, at about £10.93. Ferric phosphate is named, the pellets are mini blue, and the line is 4.3 from 586 ratings on this ASIN. On the claimed 1.2 kg that is about £0.91 per 100 g. The item-weight field says 1.44 kg. More than one review says the pots arrived with pellets several centimetres below the lid. The listing omits a gram rate and does not name edible crops. Skip it if a short fill is the failure you most want to avoid.

Sluggo, Growing Success and FERRIS

Sluggo, 800 g, B007W9STKK, is the alternative when you want 5 g per square metre on the bullets. It was about £7.99, with 4.3 from 4,830 reviews on this ASIN. The title's 100 square metres does not match 5 g on 800 g. Choose it over Provanto when the printed rate matters more than the OF&G name. Growing Success Advanced, 575 g including 15% extra, was about £7.49 with 4.2 from 122 reviews. Which? has named it. Lids off and crushed cardboard are why it is not the top pick. The manufacturer's 5 g rate is not on this Amazon page. FERRIS at 4.5 from 1,217 shares that line across the about £11.99 tub and the about £18.99 two-pack. The bullets add a nematode infusion on a dry pellet. Ultra+ at about £8.50 and JKG at about £8.95 stay off this shortlist because those Amazon files do not name an active substance.

Common questions

Is FERRIS better because it has 4.5 stars?
The 4.5 from 1,217 reviews is shared between the about £11.99 tub and the about £18.99 two-pack. The bullets add a nematode infusion without showing a watered-in pack. A higher star on that file does not beat Provanto’s larger sample or Sluggo’s printed 5 g rate.
Is the Provanto two-pack a saving?
In this scrape, no. About £14.64 for a listed 1.6 kg is about £0.92 per 100 g, the same band as the about £7.32 single. You buy it to keep a second tub, not to pay less per gram. The reviews are the same 6,699. Check that the offer is two units before you trust the title’s 800 g.
Is Sluggo the one with a printed 5 g rate?
Yes, among these Amazon files. B007W9STKK says 5 g per square metre, late evening or early morning. Ultra+ is the Neudorff product whose manufacturer page says 2.5 g, and that rate is not on the Ultra+ ASIN. Do not treat every Neudorff bottle as the 5 g tub.
Why is Growing Success not the pick?
It was about £7.49 for 575 g and Which? has named it, but the sample is 4.2 from 122 reviews and the complaints cluster on packaging. A spilled tub is not a dose. Provanto and Sluggo have far larger review pools and, in Sluggo’s case, a rate on the bullets.
What if the £7.32 offer has gone?
Check the live amazon.co.uk page. On 21 October 2026 the 800 g ASIN had no featured offer. If the price has jumped, Sluggo at the scraped about £7.99 is the named alternative with a printed rate, not a reason to switch to a tub that hides the active substance.
