How to use an Isotronic mouse repellent

Updated: 23 October 2026

The unit is already on the sideboard, and the first minute is confusing. You hear nothing, or you hear a beep, or the battery cover will not move. This is how to use an Isotronic mouse repellent when you already own one of the battery rows in our [Isotronic mouse repellent comparison](/hub/pest-control/isotronic-mouse-repellent): one closed room, the speaker aimed at the resting place, and no verdict during the quiet part of the cycle. We did not install a unit. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. What to trust before you buy sits in the [buying guide](/hub/pest-control/isotronic-mouse-repellent/sub/isotronic-mouse-repellent-buying-guide).

Put it in one room, aimed at the resting place

One device covers one closed volume. Seller bullets and Rentokil’s UK page say the sound does not pass walls or furniture. Point the speaker at the resting place: a cupboard gap, a pipe run, or the bay you can already see. The 70632 sheet describes a funnel and dead angles. Keep the front clear. Claimed areas are about 40 m² on the 70632 sheet and 30 m² on the LED titles. Joists and a closed door end that claim. Two rooms need a second housing you have confirmed in the box. The versus traps page is the hole itself. Aiming the speaker does not close a 6 mm gap.

The pause is part of the cycle

Silence for most of a minute is how the 70632 sheet says the unit runs. The technical line is 5 seconds on and 25 seconds off. The same sheet also says a 30-second interval. Quote both. The band is 12–24 kHz at about 80 dB, partly in human and pet hearing. The sheet says a start in the pause is not a fault. Wait through one full cycle. No light and no sound on the named cells is what saved reviews treat as a dead unit. Do not plug a 70632 into a socket because the power row says AC. The sheet and the bullets are battery.

Cells and the cover

Batteries are not in the box on the 70632 sheet: 6 × AAA, not included. The sheet’s runtime line is at least 12 months. LED reviews scatter from about a day to about a month. A UK review of the wood 91920 says 4 AA, which the spec table does not list. The one-unit 70632-B file also says 4 AAA. The 70624 spec table does not name a cell size. One saved review says C cells. If the diagram disagrees with a review, follow the diagram. If the cover screws will not move, stop. Water behind a foam ring is a reason to keep the unit dry.

When not working means stop waiting

The 70632 sheet talks about up to about three weeks. That is the manufacturer’s window, not a guarantee the animals leave. Rentokil’s UK page says mice habituate if food and shelter remain. Saved 70624 reviews include activity that came back with rain. If a cat avoids that floor, switch it off. If there is no light and no sound on fresh cells, use the seller’s returns route. Bats, chewed cable and loft access sit on the loft page.

Common questions

Where do I point it?
Point the speaker at one resting place or run in one closed room, with nothing stacked in front of it. The 70632 sheet describes a funnel and dead angles, and the bullets say the sound does not pass walls. A kitchen unit does not cover a loft. If you cannot see the bay you are aiming at, stop and use the loft page rather than pushing the housing into a void.
Which batteries, and are they in the box?
The 70632 sheet says 6 × AAA, not included. Reviews on that family also say 4 AAA. LED reviews in this set say 2 AAA per unit. A UK wood-unit review says 4 AA, which is not in the spec table. A 70624 review mentions C cells; the amazon spec table here does not. Use the diagram in the housing. A 12 months line is the sheet, not a measured life.
It is silent. Is it broken?
Wait out one cycle first. The sheet says 5 seconds on and 25 seconds off, and also a 30-second interval, and it says a start in the pause is not a fault. A light about every half minute, if your model has an LED, is the sign to watch. No light and no sound after fresh cells is the pattern saved reviews treat as a dead unit. Do not declare it broken in the first 20 seconds of quiet.
How do I open the back?
Use a small screwdriver that fits the screws. Reviews describe covers that are stiff, screws that are too small, and a cover with no recess. Do not lever it with a knife. If the screws will not turn, stop before you crack the housing. The foam ring mentioned in 70632 reviews is not a handle. Cells go in only once the cover moves without force.
My cat reacts. Should I leave it on?
Switch it off in the room the cat uses. A saved 70624 review says a cat avoided upstairs while a loft unit ran. Another household, on the wood unit, stopped because a cat and children could hear the tone. That is not a medical finding. It is enough to drop the animal-friendly bullet. A repeller your pet will not pass is a blockage you added, not a result.
