Box tree moth pheromone refill

Updated: 22 October 2026

Last year’s lure is spent, the cage in the lid is empty, and you need a box tree moth pheromone refill rather than another bucket. This page is the four refill packs on the saved amazon.co.uk shelf: what each claims, where the pack count disagrees, and how to store sachets you will not open until June. It assumes the trap body is already yours. If it is not, a bag of lures will not monitor anything. The split of kit from sachet is the [box tree moth trap buying guide](/hub/pest-control/box-tree-moth-trap/sub/box-tree-moth-trap-buying-guide). Bodies and badges are on the [box tree moth trap comparison](/hub/pest-control/box-tree-moth-trap). Products Compared, 21 October 2026, used the saved listings, not a fridge test. Refill only if the trap exists

A refill is foil. The lure goes into a cage in the lid, above the water, and stays dry. Without that cage you have nowhere in the design to put it. A jam jar, or a clothes-moth trap in a wardrobe, is a different insect. None of these four rows is the top pick or the best value. Those badges are kept for trap kits. Vitax at £10.99 is the cheapest and scores 4.3 from 88 reviews, and it is two lures. Without a body, those two lures do not become a monitor. BuxPhero, BuxAllure, and the IPM Direct refill claim four lures at a few pounds more. Buy one when last season’s dispenser has passed its weeks and the funnel is still sound. Buy a kit when the cage is missing or this is your first year. Andermatt’s cross-trap line is one supplier’s claim, not a test of every cage here.

The four saved packs

Vitax B0879YTGD7 is £10.99, two lures, 4.3 from 88 reviews, about 10 g. The short saved listing does not state a life in weeks. An Ashwood Nurseries page says replace every six weeks and do not pierce the lure. Those six weeks are that supplier sheet, not the saved amazon bullet. One repeat buyer thought a later pair of packs seemed empty. BuxPhero, B0FX9TMRQ3, is £11.99 for four lures, 3.9 from 11 reviews, stated at up to eight weeks, stored below 30°C. On a clean count of four that is about £3 a lure. Eleven reviews cannot prove the eight weeks. One household still changes at about six, and another review says no results were seen. BuxAllure, B0BSXKFMMY, is £12.99, 4.1 from 77. The bullets say four lures at four to six weeks. A public specification line has said three, so do not publish a price per lure. IPM Direct B09B138FSY is also £12.99, 3.9 from 157, the largest refill sample. The title says four and another line says three, with four to six weeks and an April-to-October window. A ranked body, rather than a spare, is the best box tree moth trap page.

Weeks and storage

Opened life starts when the foil comes off. On this shelf that is about four to six weeks for BuxAllure and the IPM refill, and up to eight for BuxPhero. Vitax does not state weeks in the saved amazon text. COMPO’s two months belong to COMPO’s own dispensers, not these sachets. Russell IPM says change about every five to six weeks, with gloves so pheromone is not wiped onto the spare box. Sealed storage there is about −20°C for several years or about 4°C for up to a year, not with food. That is unopened life, not a lure left in the cage all season. Andermatt says about six weeks from opening. Dragonfli says six to eight once fitted. If your leaflet says six, change at six. Hang, water, and the weekly empty are on how to use a box tree moth trap.

Fit and how many in the cage

The usual pattern is one lure in the cage, left uncut. Vitax says the lure can look empty because the pheromone is in the material. An IPM reviewer who was catching moths left the cap on and put the lure in the mesh basket. BuxusPro’s shop text says a BuxTrap uses two BuxPhero lures, replaced every four to six weeks. That is a line for that trap. If your leaflet shows one, fit one. A second lure on a trap designed for one starts two clocks and does not catch caterpillars. Do not assume a Vitax refill fits an IPM cage, or that BuxAllure fits every PlantPro lid. Andermatt’s cross-trap sentence is limited to traps with a basket in the lid. These amazon pages leave “does it work with all traps?” unanswered. If the new lure will not seat and stay dry, buy a kit, not a fourth brand of sachet.

Common questions

Can I buy refills if I do not own a trap?
You can order them, and you will still have nothing to hang. All four saved refill ASINs are sachets. Vitax at £10.99 is two lures and no body. Buy a kit first if the cage does not exist.
How long does one lure last?
Use the weeks on the pack you opened: about four to six for BuxAllure and the IPM refill, up to eight for BuxPhero. Vitax does not state a life in the saved amazon text. A supplier page says six weeks only when that sheet is in your hand.
Where do I keep the unopened sachets?
Sealed, cool, and out of direct sun. Russell IPM says about 4°C for up to a year or about −20°C for several years, and not with food. BuxPhero says below 30°C in the original pack. Do not open the whole box on day one.
Do I cut the capsule open?
No. The lure often looks empty because the pheromone is in the material. Vitax says not to pierce it. Fit it in the dry cage. Gloves stop you wiping pheromone onto other surfaces.
Will a Vitax refill fit an IPM or PlantPro cage?
The saved pages do not show that test. Andermatt’s line is only for traps with a basket in the lid. If the lure will not sit dry in your cage, use the spare sold for that trap, or replace the body.
Why does one listing say three pieces and another say four?
IPM Direct B09B138FSY says four in the title and three on another line. BuxAllure’s bullets say four, and a specification line has said three. Both are £12.99. Count the sachets. Until then, compare the parcel price.
