Best silicate paint

Updated: 23 October 2026

Pricing an exterior solid-brick or lime-rendered wall often starts with best silicate paint and lands on four Earthborn Ecopro listings. This set is one potassium-silicate system in a 100 ml tube, two 5 L tins and a 10 L tub. It is not four rival manufacturers, and it is not a laboratory test. The figures are the amazon.co.uk snapshot of 21 October 2026, read with the maker’s documents. Stars cannot separate the packs: three listings have no review line. The specification table is the [silicate paint comparison](/hub/paints-and-varnishes/silicate-paint). Peter F. updated this page on 23 October 2026. What this set can decide

Choosing the best silicate paint here only decides which Earthborn Ecopro pack, colour and listing detail match the wall. Parts E86500, E86002, E86252 and E86003 are the same formula on the 2026 data sheet, even where two Amazon pages omit coverage and primer. Three listings have no star line. The 5 L white tin shows 2.0 from one review on 1 September 2025: the tin looked opened or used. That is a packaging comment, not a test of how potassium silicate petrifies into masonry. Every tin lists the United Kingdom as country of origin.

The 100 ml Oatmeal sample

The Earthborn Ecopro 100 ml Oatmeal pack (B0B7RFW46J, part E86500) at £18.23 is a colour patch. Buying several tubes to paint a garden wall would be about £182.30 a litre. The listing container type reads Tube, and coverage, finish, primer and reviews are blank, so the technical limits are the 2026 data sheet. At 5 to 7 m² per litre, 100 ml covers about 0.5 to 0.7 m², enough for a sample square of roughly 70 cm by 80 cm on a sheltered return. The 2022 safety data sheet still asks for eye and skin protection on that trial. Once the shade is settled, you step up to a 5 L or 10 L tin.

The two 5 L tins

The 5 L white tin (B0B7RH2QVY, part E86002) at £130.00, £26.00 a litre, is the clearer white choice because the Amazon page states coverage and the primer rules. The 5 L Sandstone tin (B0B7RHWM7H, part E86252) at £145.00, £29.00 a litre, is for that warm stone shade. Both specify a matte exterior finish, 5 to 7 m² per litre, Silicate Primer on bare mineral walls and Bonding Primer over sound existing paint. On a 14 m² rendered gable in two coats, that rate is about 4 to 5.6 litres, so one 5 L tin can run short if the first coat soaks in. The £15 premium is pigment, not extra coverage. Sandstone’s non-toxic feature line does not cancel the 2022 warning of skin and eye irritation. Sort the primer and binder first in the silicate paint buying guide.

The 10 L white tin

The Earthborn Ecopro 10 L white tub (B0B7RJQN1G, part E86003) at £248.75 is about £24.88 a litre, the lowest in this set, if you need white across a larger area and you will not take instructions from the Amazon text. This listing has no bullets and no review line, so coverage, finish, primer and listed use are n/a on the page. One 10 L tub instead of two 5 L white tins (£260.00 together) saves £11.25. That saving goes if you only have about 10 m² and half the tub sits in a cold shed. Primer ratios and the 8°C minimum are in how to apply silicate paint.

Who should skip this set

Skip all four listings if the facade mixes sound older paint with bare mineral patches and you want a ready-mixed sol-silicate such as Keim Soldalit, sold by the kilogram, rather than a separate bonding coat. None of these tins includes Earthborn Silicate Primer or Bonding Primer. None is an interior clay paint, a silicone resin masonry paint or a mould wash. A £130 silicate tub against a standard masonry tin near £30 is silicate paint vs acrylic. Fresh lime will not carbonise faster because the tin has arrived. The wait is silicate paint for lime render.

Common questions

Which of these four tins is the best silicate paint?
There is no single test winner across the four listings, because all four are the same Earthborn Ecopro potassium-silicate masonry system in different sizes and colours. Pick the 100 ml Oatmeal tube (£18.23) only for a colour patch, the 5 L white (£130.00) or 5 L Sandstone (£145.00) for a medium wall, and the 10 L white (£248.75) for the lowest cost per litre on a larger white facade.
Is the 10 L tin better value because it is cheaper per litre?
At £248.75, the 10 L white tub is about £24.88 a litre, against £26.00 a litre on the 5 L white tin and £29.00 a litre on the 5 L Sandstone tin. It only saves money if the wall needs close to 10 litres across two coats, roughly 25 to 35 m² at the maker’s 5 to 7 m² per litre guide.
What did the only customer review on Amazon actually say?
Only the Earthborn Ecopro 5 L white listing (B0B7RH2QVY) had a customer rating in the 21 October 2026 Amazon UK snapshot: 2.0 out of 5 from one review dated 1 September 2025. The buyer reported that the tin looked opened or previously used. That is a delivery and packaging complaint, not a test of coverage or weathering.
Why does the 5 L Sandstone tin cost £15 more than the 5 L white?
On amazon.co.uk on 21 October 2026, the 5 L Sandstone tin (B0B7RHWM7H) was £145.00 and the 5 L white tin (B0B7RH2QVY) was £130.00. Both cover 5 to 7 m² per litre and use the same Earthborn primer system, so the £15 is the Sandstone pigment, not extra coverage or a different binder.
The 10 L listing has no coverage or primer details. Is it a different paint?
No. Part E86003 is the 10 L white pack of the same Earthborn Ecopro Silicate Masonry Paint as the 5 L white tin (part E86002). The Amazon page for the 10 L tub omits the bullet points, so coverage of 5 to 7 m² per litre and the primer dilution sit on the 2026 Earthborn technical data sheet.
Can I trust the non-toxic label on the Sandstone listing?
The Amazon feature line on the 5 L Sandstone listing includes non toxic, and the 2026 Earthborn sheet notes a very low VOC figure. Liquid potassium silicate is still strongly alkaline. The 2022 safety data sheet warns that splashes irritate skin and eyes, so you still need goggles, gloves and glass masking.
