Manual ring roller: match the bar before you trust the listing

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are in a UK shed or small workshop with mild flat or round bar already cut, and a sketch that needs a hoop or a scroll. The search results all say manual ring roller, and several of them cannot be true about capacity. By the end you should know which class matches that bar, and which listing to reject. Peter F. compiled the figures on 20 October 2026 from the amazon.co.uk listings and the maker pages named here. This is not a workshop test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. The four kept listings, from about £139.99 to about £237.72, are ranked on the [ring roller comparison](/hub/painting-supplies/ring-roller).

What you are actually buying

A ring roller bends bar and light section between three rolls. A hand crank walks the bar through in several passes. A paint roller does not bend steel. Pay for a line that names the largest mild-steel flat, the largest mild-steel round, and the smallest finished diameter. A huge bar on a frame of about 5 kg is a headline. HSE EIS7 covers the nip. It is a safety limit, not a buying table.

Four machine classes

A pocket hand crank is your arm on a light bench machine. Stakesys lists the MRR1 at about 6 kg: 25 mm × 3 mm flat, 6 mm round, and a 75 mm minimum. Past that flat, this class is the wrong buy. A trade hand crank still uses your arm. Tool Reserve’s Baileigh R-M3 page gives 6.35 mm round, 25 mm × 5 mm flat, a 76.2 mm minimum ring, and mild steel up to 60,000 psi. DIMAKIN’s manual is a motored machine whose top roll you adjust by hand. The RM-502 is shown at £3,060 plus VAT. That is the wrong spend for one weekend hoop already inside a hand-crank table.

How to read the four amazon.co.uk listings

Read the weight, and anything odd in the box, before you trust the capacity line. Enborpe KF-2437 is about £139.99 with no reviews, claiming 50 mm × 5 mm sheet and 12 mm rebar at 11.8 kg. Best value means only the lowest price. KAKA Industrial PR-3 is about £185.63, 4.4 from 133, for 6.5 mm round, 25 mm × 4 mm flat, a 3 in minimum, and 6.21 kg. The stars are not a mill test. GYKOZY is about £197.91, claims 2.6 in round, weighs 5.5 kg, and lists Camera Body, Battery Pack. CHENGLONG is about £237.72 at 3.63 kg, with bead roller in the title.

When a published table is the buy

Use a published table when the inch figure and the weight cannot both be true. Stakesys shows the MRR1 at £99.00 and £82.50. The MRR2 goes to 25 mm × 4 mm flat and 8 mm round, at £119.00 and £99.17. Recheck those prices. They are not an amazon.co.uk promise. Only the R-M3 page allows 25 mm × 5 mm flat and names 60,000 psi. If your flat is 5 mm, that table says yes. The KAKA listing has not said it.

Decide, then stop

Write the section and the minimum diameter down first. Mild flat at or under 25 mm × 3 mm, or round at or under 6 mm, with a ring of 75 mm or larger, points to a pocket crank with a printed table. Step up for the R-M3’s 25 mm × 5 mm flat or 6.35 mm round. Choose hydraulic descent when the same radius must repeat, and keep plus VAT beside about £185.63. Easy way and hard way are on flat bar or round bar. Light hoops are on ring roller for decorative ironwork.

Common questions

What thickness of mild flat bar is realistic on a hand crank?
On a small published hand crank, 25 mm × 3 mm mild flat is a realistic ceiling, which is the MRR1 figure, with round limited to 6 mm. The Baileigh R-M3 table goes to 25 mm × 5 mm flat and 6.35 mm round, and names mild steel up to 60,000 psi. A 12 mm rebar claim on a machine under about 12 kg is not that table.
Why do some listings claim two-inch round bar on a 5 kg tool?
The capacity line has been copied without a check against the weight. GYKOZY asks about £197.91 for a 5.5 kg tool and a 2.6 in round claim, and the components line is Camera Body, Battery Pack. Bar of that size is structural. A frame that light does not roll it.
Is a DIMAKIN manual ring roller the same as a hand crank?
No. On DIMAKIN’s UK pages, manual means a motored machine with a top roll you adjust by hand. The RM-502 is shown at £3,060 plus VAT. A hand crank is you turning a handle on a bench tool, here from about £82.50 on a maker page to about £237.72 on amazon.co.uk. The word matches. The drive does not.
Do I need a minimum diameter in writing before I buy?
Yes, when the ring size is part of the job. The MRR1 states 75 mm, the R-M3 states 76.2 mm, and the KAKA PR-3 states 3 in. Stakesys warns that minimum radii vary on the MRR2. Without a number, the machine can bend the bar and still miss the hoop. The published minimum is the tight end of the range. A smaller ring than the table is outside what these machines cover.
How do I tell a ring roller from a plate roll or a bead roller?
A ring roller curves bar and light section between three rolls. A plate roll curves sheet across a wide face. A bead roller presses a ridge into sheet and does not make a hoop. The CHENGLONG listing at about £237.72 puts bead roller in the title of a 3.63 kg tool. For a flat-bar hoop you want the ring-roller class, and you still need the section and the minimum diameter in writing.
