Non-woven wallpaper: what to check before you order

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are about to order several rolls of non-woven wallpaper from amazon.co.uk for a UK room, and the title, the bullets and the details table often disagree. Check the hang symbol, the cover, the pattern match, the batch, the wash grade and the material line before you pay. This page does not name a top pick. The five listings are on the [non-woven wallpaper comparison](/hub/painting-supplies/non-woven-wallpaper). Peter F. wrote this on 20 October 2026 from those amazon.co.uk fields and public UK sources, not from a lab hang. What non-woven means on the roll

Non-woven wallpaper is a finished roll with a cellulose and textile-fibre fleece backing, sold in the UK as paste the wall wallpaper. You put adhesive on the wall and hang a dry strip, rather than pasting the back and booking it like paper. The paste and a sound wall still decide whether it comes away cleanly. A vinyl face on the fleece is still non-woven underneath, and the insert says how to hang it. A usual roll is 10.05 m by 0.53 m, about 5.33 square metres, close to the BS EN 233 category 1 area of 5.326 m² plus or minus 3 per cent. A 9.5 m by 0.53 m roll is about 5.04 square metres. Warmiehomy flocking dark grey, about £15.99, is that shorter length, so equal width is not equal cover.

Six checks before you order

Read the hang symbol, cover, pattern match, batch, wash grade and material line together. If two disagree, the label and the insert beat the bullet. Paste the wall means glue on the wall and a dry strip. Paste the paper means you paste the back and book it. Pre-pasted means you activate glue already on the roll. Take the cover from length times width. A unit count of 1.0 square metre does not describe a full roll. Free match wastes the least, straight match lines up at one height, and a drop match shifts the next length. Buy every roll for the room in one batch. Scrubbable means a wipe, not a waterproof wall. If the title never says non-woven and the line only says Vinyl, wait for the insert.

Where these listings disagree

Four amazon.co.uk listings contradict themselves. This page does not rank them. A.S. Création Trendwall 2 black, about £21.37, is paste the wall on both fields, but free match in the bullets and Drop Match in the details. Livingwalls Metropolitan Stories 2, about £24.28, says paste the wall in the bullets and Pre-Pasted in the details. Livingwalls Travel Styles, about £24.30, has no installation field, and 5.33 m² of cover beside a unit count of 1.0 m². Sophie Laurence cream beige, about £13.99, never says non-woven in the title. Material says Vinyl, and cover is given as 5 m², as 10 m by 0.53 m and as 1.0 m².

What not to treat as proof

A printed CE line is not a Declaration of Performance. GOV.UK accepts UKCA or CE marking in Great Britain, but the mark does not state the hang symbol, the batch or the square metres. None of these rolls prints a Euroclass. Do not call a roll fireproof. RAL-GZ 479 is a German mark, not a British Standard. FSC Mix only concerns fibre sourcing. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 still applies when goods are not as described. When the symbol agrees, use how to hang paste the wall wallpaper. If the method is still open, read paste the wall versus paste the paper.

Common questions

Is 10.05 m by 0.53 m the same cover as 9.5 m by 0.53 m?
No. A 10.05 m by 0.53 m roll is about 5.33 square metres, and a 9.5 m by 0.53 m roll is about 5.04 square metres. BS EN 233 category 1 is 5.326 m² plus or minus 3 per cent, so only the longer roll sits on that area. Warmiehomy flocking dark grey, about £15.99, is the shorter roll in this set.
Does vinyl fleece mean the wallpaper is not non-woven?
Usually it is a vinyl face on a non-woven fleece, so it can still be non-woven wallpaper. Hang it the way the label says. The phrase does not prove the backing. Sophie Laurence cream beige, about £13.99, says Vinyl and never says non-woven in the title, so wait for the insert to name a fleece.
What does a unit count of 1.0 square metre do to the price?
It breaks price per square metre. Livingwalls Travel Styles is about £24.30, with 5.33 m² of stated cover and a unit count of 1.0 m². Dividing by 5.33 gives about £4.56. Dividing by 1.0 makes the roll look like £24.30 per square metre, which does not describe it. Use length times width.
Do I need the same batch on every roll?
Yes, if you will hang them in the same room. Another delivery can be a different shade under the same design name. Check the batch before you cut and keep the labels, because a trimmed length is harder to return. A matching amazon.co.uk title is not a matching batch.
What if the title never says non-woven?
Do not assume a fleece. Sophie Laurence cream beige, about £13.99, omits non-woven from the title, says paste the wall, and lists Vinyl, with cover given as 5 m², 10 m by 0.53 m and 1.0 m². That is an uncertain fit. If the insert names no fleece, do not count on a dry strip pulling off later without a soak.
