Best garden hose spray gun: top pick or best value
Updated: 21 October 2026
You want one gun for the hose you already own, and every 2026 round-up seems to name a different best garden hose spray gun. On this page the top pick and the best value come from nine amazon.co.uk listings, not from a bench test. Peter F. updated this on 21 October 2026. Scores use the amazon.co.uk star line, the review count, and a small metal-body point. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. The full table is the [garden hose spray gun comparison](/hub/painting-supplies/garden-hose-spray-gun). Here the question is who each pick is for, and who should skip it.

What best means on this page
The score is the amazon.co.uk star rating times 15, rounded to the nearest whole number with halves rounded up, plus review-count points, plus 3 when the body is metal or alloy and there are at least 100 reviews. Onarway scores 85 at £15.74. Draper 25342 scores 83 at £12.49, from 4.3 across 6,328 reviews, and is the best value. The plastic Hozelock scores 81 at £20.20, from 4.4 across 15,414 reviews, without the metal point.
BBC Gardeners' World on 30 April 2026 leads with Claber, Gardena, and Spear & Jackson models that are not these ASINs. Connector checks are on the garden hose spray gun buying guide.
Top pick: Onarway, if you want metal at £15.74
Onarway's zinc-alloy gun, with brass fittings, weighs 460 g and lists a rear thumb knob and a trigger lock. Reviewers describe buying it after a plastic Hozelock split, and several early reviews say it did not leak. The top pick is for you if a light plastic body has already broken, you can hold 460 g, and you want flow at the thumb.
Skip it if you hate the weight, if your hose only clicks on a Hozelock fitting you do not want to change, or if 262 reviews feels too small. The orange release tabs are plastic. There is no frost warning on the listing, so the metal body is not permission to leave it outside full of water.
Best value: Draper 25342 at £12.49
The Draper is an aluminium seven-pattern gun, the largest metal-body review sample here. The bullets do not name a lock.
Skip it if you need a named lock, if universal has to mean your Hozelock AquaStop, or if a trigger failure would annoy you. Reviews include a weak trigger, a spring that rusted after two years so the gun would not shut off, and cracked plastic collars. A listed weight of 20 g beside a 23.5 cm body is not usable. Those collars sit on the metal vs plastic hose spray gun page.
When the Hozelock Multi-Jet is still the one to buy
The Hozelock at £20.20 is the 120 g plastic gun with cone, jet, fast fill, fine rose, and flat, plus a lock and a flow control. Buy it when you already own the Hozelock connectors and you will store the gun indoors. Skip it when you are replacing a body that has already split: drop cracks and a frost seam are in the same sample.
The listing warranty is one year, matching the base Multi Spray period. Plus, Pro, and Ultramax are different models. RAINPOINT, at score 82 and £21.99, is the thumb-slide metal alternative if your hand tires, not a third winner. BBU at £5.99 has leak reviews, so it is not the best value.
Common questions
Which gun is the top pick here, and who should skip it?
The top pick is the Onarway metal gun, B0GCZR17M2, at £15.74 and a score of 85, from 4.7 across 262 amazon.co.uk reviews. It suits you if a plastic gun has already split and you can hold 460 g. Skip it if you want a Hozelock click you already trust, if the weight puts you off, or if 262 reviews feels too small beside the Hozelock's 15,414. The badge is a score result, not a lab prize.
Which is the best value, and why is it not the cheapest?
The best value is the Draper 25342 at £12.49 and a score of 83, from 4.3 across 6,328 reviews. The cheapest gun is the BBU at £5.99, and its reviews include leaks and crossed threads, so price alone does not win the badge. The Draper still has trigger and spring complaints. You are paying less than the Onarway for a widely reviewed aluminium body, and you are accepting those failures.
Why is the Hozelock not the top pick when it has 15,414 reviews?
The review-count part of the score already gives the Hozelock the maximum count points. The body is plastic, so it does not get the metal point, and 4.4 times 15 lands below the Onarway's 4.7. The long sample is a reason to trust the failure stories, including frost splits and drop cracks, as well as the praise. It remains the right buy when you already live in the Hozelock connector family.
Are the BBC 2026 winners in this comparison?
No. BBC Gardeners' World's 30 April 2026 list leads with Claber, Gardena EcoLine, Spear & Jackson, and, over £30, Hozelock Multi Spray Pro, Multi Plus, and Ultramax. Those models are not the nine ASINs here. Their mention of a Draper seven-pattern aluminium gun is the same type as 25342, not a test of this amazon.co.uk offer, and their £18.90 RRP is not the £12.49 price here.
Who should buy the RAINPOINT instead?
Buy the RAINPOINT 1020-Y, at £21.99 and a score of 82, when you want a metal body and a thumb slide that stays on without a squeeze. Reviewers mention sore hands and a mist used in a greenhouse. Skip it if £21.99 is more than the Onarway and you do not need the thumb control. One review says the pressure regulator broke off after two months, so it is an alternative, not a second top pick.
Does top pick mean these guns were tested on a bench?
No. These guns were not sprayed on a patio or left out in a frost for this page. The order comes from the amazon.co.uk stars and review counts in the saved listings, plus the metal-body point described above. Review text supplies the limits, such as the Draper spring and the Onarway weight. A magazine that handled other models is context, not this score.
