Best lavender plant for a patio, shelf or dry box

Updated: 22 October 2026

You want one listing, and the place is already a sunny patio, a shelf, or a window box that nobody will water. The best lavender plant in the [lavender plant comparison](/hub/ornamental-plants/lavender-plant) is the one whose type matches that place. Peter F. used the amazon.co.uk prices and review lines stored on 19 October 2026. We did not run a flowering trial. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Hidcote and Munstead are not in this basket, so a nursery page for those names is a different shop. How to read the pot, the count and the shared stars is on the [lavender plant buying guide](/hub/ornamental-plants/lavender-plant/sub/lavender-plant-buying-guide).

Best for a sunny patio

For one live plant in full sun, Carbeth's Lavandula angustifolia in a 14 cm pot at about £11.99 has its own reviews, 4.3 from 78. Texts describe fragrant plants in flower, and also dead strands, wilted flowers, and a plant that looked fine in 2024 and then died. The care line is drainage, close to full sun, and water for two years. The cultivar is not named. The 1 metre field is not a shrub we measured. Skip shade, or a summer nobody waters. The English single at the same price shares 4.2 from 1,934. The two-pack at about £19.99 is the best value for a pair. The about £8.99 Lavender Vera title is mixed herbs in 9 cm pots.

Best for a shelf

A shelf without a full day's sun needs a faux pot. The RHS grow guide says lavender will not last in shade and damp. Hollyone at about £14.99 is artificial lavender and eucalyptus, pre-assembled, flowers fixed, indoor on the listing field. The title says 25 cm and the table says 13 × 13 × 22 cm. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.2 from 40. UK reviews call it a gift that matches the photos, and also smaller than advertised and too plastic for a kitchen. There is no scent claim. The about £24.97 pot is taller, unscented, and its written reviews are from the United States. A higher price does not make a shrub.

Best for a dry window box

If nobody will water the box, buy stems and replace them when the colour goes. Mtiscolla's 20 bundles at about £10.99 filled about two or three hanging baskets in UK notes and looked passable from about 3 m. One UK review says the colour lost vibrancy after a month in sun, against a title that says UV resistant and never fade. Kinisty's 12 bundles at about £11.99, 4.5 from 219, report a year outdoors, no fade beside heather, and terrible fade after nearly a year. A bullet lists purple, lotus and white. Eteamcan at about £7.98 is mixed colours. Arborus at about £15.29 has no review line.

What this set does not contain

Hidcote and Munstead are what a search for the best British lavender usually means. The RHS puts both in full sun, hardiness H5, and a height band of 0.1–0.5 m. The Munstead profile text is about 45 cm. Those names are not these ASINs. The six-pack shows a grown size of 60 cm and no pot. The shared 4.2 from 1,934 belongs to the 14 cm story, so it does not fill that hole. After a live plant arrives, the finished container is about 30–40 cm across, set out on lavender in pots. The role is the match, not a lab winner.

Common questions

Which listing is the live plant for a sunny patio?
Carbeth's Lavandula angustifolia in a 14 cm pot at about £11.99, with its own 4.3 from 78. The care line is sun, drainage and water for two years. The English single at the same price is a similar starter whose 1,934 reviews are shared with two other listings. Skip both if the patio is shaded.
Which is the indoor shelf plant?
Hollyone at about £14.99, indoor on the listing field, with UK reviews that call it smaller than the 25 cm title and sometimes too plastic. The about £24.97 pot is taller and unscented, and the written reviews in the file are from the United States. Neither one is a garden plant.
Which stems suit a window box nobody will water?
Mtiscolla's 20 bundles at about £10.99 if you want volume and you will replace stems that bleach. Kinisty's 12 at about £11.99 if you would rather read a 219-review UK file in which fade is reported both ways. Eteamcan's pack at about £7.98 is mixed colours, not a purple line.
Why is Hidcote not the top pick here?
It is not for sale in this set. Nor is Munstead. RHS pages for those cultivars are full sun, H5 and a low height band. This page can only rank the twelve amazon.co.uk listings that were kept, and none of their titles carries those names.
Are the 1,934 reviews three results?
No. The English single, the two-pack and the six-pack share one star line and one block of text. One review mentions the pack of two. The texts describe 14 cm plants. The angustifolia single's 78 reviews are a different file.
Is the £24.97 pot the best because it costs more?
No. It is the tallest indoor faux in the folder, unscented, with review text dated in the United States. A higher shelf price does not turn plastic into a shrub and does not create a UK review. Hollyone is the shelf listing that has UK comments, at about £14.99, and those comments already dispute the size.
Who should not buy a live plant from this set?
Anyone with a dark hallway, a box that will not be watered, or a label that must read Hidcote or Munstead. Live plants in this folder are 14 cm starters, or a six-pack with no pot size, and the reviews include dead arrivals. Plastic is the honest buy when you only need colour.
