How to display exotic flowers

Updated: 22 October 2026

The parcel has arrived, but wired stems, flat dried bundles, loose silk heads, and a live pot do not all go into the same vase with water. This guide explains how to display exotic flowers by form after you have chosen the listing. Treating every product like a bendable faux stem is how wire rusts, dried stems go mouldy, and a flamingo flower ends up in direct sun. If you are still choosing, start with the [exotic flowers buying guide](/hub/ornamental-plants/exotic-flowers/sub/exotic-flowers-buying-guide). Prices sit on the [exotic flowers comparison](/hub/ornamental-plants/exotic-flowers). We did not style these in a studio. Wired stems after the parcel

For Qingriver spider-lily stems, Rikyo bird-of-paradise stems, MEIVINES autumn bunches, and Oairse spider mums, unpack gently and expect a curve. Bend stems rather than force them straight, and do not add water, because moisture can rust internal wire. Rikyo reviews still say stems stay curved, while the bullet says you may bend or cut. Plan a vase that hides a slight bend. For tall stems, a common rule of thumb is stem height about one and a half to two times the vase height. That helps proportion on Qingriver at about 67 cm or Oairse at about 84 cm stated. Oairse reviews add a limit: two long stems feel flimsy unless the neck is narrow, and the heads stay clustered. Rikyo includes no pot. Photos of pots are reference only. Qingriver ships flowers without leaves, so the bunch looks sparse. That is the product, not a packing mistake.

Heads you still have to build

HASWITDA sends twenty silk heads, twenty wire stems about 25 cm, leaves, and a ribbon separately. Attach heads to wires, trim if needed, then bind with the ribbon or place them in a vase you supply. It is not a finished bouquet. One UK review returned roses because a plastic frame showed inside a bloom. Inspect before you gift. JOOTUEPO is heads only, about 4–10 cm, with no stems stated. Use them on a cake, in hair, or on wire you buy, not as a standing bunch. Do not treat cake heads like mixed faux stems. For a ready handover, use yarn or a boxed rose on exotic flower gifts.

Dried bundles and yarn

HIVTE mini dried bundles should stay dry. RHS guidance keeps dried displays out of direct sun and out of moist rooms such as bathrooms, where they can go mouldy. Fluff them if they arrived flat. Do not water them, and do not expect a centimetre height. Reviews say they are smaller than expected. AIGOCITY and Pelizen crochet bouquets need a dry indoor shelf or desk. Add a vase for support if you want one. Neither listing states a vase. Straighten yarn if transit crushed it. Pelizen packs at about 21 × 15 × 15 cm and can look bigger in the photo. Keep yarn out of bathroom steam and rain.

Dust, heat, and the live pot

MEIVINES says dust with a cool hairdryer or a soft cloth, and that hot air can burn silk petals. Use the cool setting. One review left autumn bunches outdoors for months. That is a buyer report, not an outdoor guarantee. UV-resistant lines on faux listings are seller claims. The Mikasol rose is an indoor ornament. Use a stable stand if you use the holder reviewers mention. Reviews include a base that broke when dropped. Do not stand the Carbeth anthurium in a vase of water. It stays in its pot, wants indirect light and warmth, and all parts are toxic if eaten. Care sits on live or artificial exotic flowers. If it arrived rotten, contact the seller.

Common questions

Should you put water in the vase?
No for faux wire stems, silk bunches, plated metal, yarn, and dried bundles on this shelf. Moisture can rust internal wire. Water belongs only with the live anthurium, in its pot, when the top of the soil is dry. Do not stand cut faux stems in a vase of water.
What if the stems arrive curved and will not straighten?
Bend gently over time. Rikyo reviews say many stems stay curved after packing, even though the bullet says you may bend or cut. Use a taller or narrower vase to support Oairse, or hide the bend in the arrangement. Do not snap the wire trying to force a straight line.
Which packs have no vase and no stems?
JOOTUEPO has no stems stated. HASWITDA has wire stems, but not a finished arrangement. Rikyo, Qingriver, MEIVINES, and Oairse expect a vase you already own. AIGOCITY and Pelizen do not state a vase in the bullets. Photos of pots on the bird-of-paradise packs are reference only.
How do you use a silk head kit?
Open HASWITDA, attach the heads to the supplied wire stems, add the ribbon, then place the bunch in your own container. Heads and stems arrive separate. Allow time before a fixed handover date, and check that a plastic frame is not showing inside a bloom.
How do you show dried bundles that were packed flat?
Keep HIVTE bundles dry, out of sun and steam, and tease the shape by hand. RHS guidance keeps dried displays out of bathrooms, where they can go mouldy. Expect a mini size. Reviews say the bundles are much smaller than expected, and the listing gives no centimetre height.
Can you use a hot hairdryer on silk petals?
MEIVINES warns that hot air can burn silk petals. Use cool air or a soft cloth on those autumn bunches. The same hot setting is a poor idea for dried bundles, which want to stay dry, and it does nothing useful for a plated metal rose.
Where should a yarn bouquet sit?
On a dry indoor shelf or desk. Add a vase for support if the bouquet needs it, even though neither crochet listing states a vase. Straighten the yarn after unpacking if transit crushed it. Keep it out of bathroom humidity and outdoor rain.
