Uvex 1 vs Uvex 2

Updated: 16 October 2026

You already know you need safety footwear, and the two names sound like a ladder, with Uvex 2 above Uvex 1. Uvex 1 vs Uvex 2 is a choice of floor and upper, after the class is settled. Uvex 1 is the lighter, often synthetic range for indoor work. Uvex 2 is the leather range for outdoor grip. A higher name does not add a midsole the title never prints. The [Uvex safety shoes comparison](/hub/occupational-safety/uvex-safety-shoes) holds the eight cards. Products Compared prepared this on 16 October 2026 from Uvex UK range pages and those listings. There was no laboratory test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What each family is for

Uvex’s 2019 note places Uvex 1 in factories, warehouses, and logistics. The UK range page adds indoor installation and maintenance: a synthetic upper, a metal-free xenova cap, S1 to S3, and ESD under 35 megaohms. The name is not a class. Uvex 2 is water-repellent leather, a debris-clearing sole, a metal-free midsole, and kneeling, with the same ESD limit. Uvex claims up to 40 joules in the heel. Buying Uvex 2 for a dry aisle because the number is higher adds leather you were not asked for. If the letter is still open, use S1 vs S3 safety boots first.

Upper, sole, and water

The Uvex 1 upper here is synthetic, including a perforated S1 that warehouse reviews like and that one review says is wrong for winter. The Uvex 2 upper is water-repellent leather. Uvex says it keeps feet dry for longer. That upper resistance is the WPA idea in S2 and S3. Whole-shoe resistance is WR, in classes S6 and S7. No title in this set prints WR. Uvex says PU soles age by hydrolysis, faster if stored damp, and that a pair does not last indefinitely. On the leather card, several reviews describe a sole torn within about three to seven months. On the S2 boot, a sole started crumbling after about eight months. Rain at a failed sole joint is a different event from the leather claim.

The cards in this set

Five cards are Uvex 1: the Duo S1, the perforated S1 with metal-free, ESD, SR, and W11, the S2 SRC ESD boot at £111.68, and two titles with no class. Two are Uvex 2: the leather S3 SRC ESD boot, and the metal-free S3L BOA boot. The quatro, model 68792, is Uvex 3 and S3 SRC. It stays outside Uvex 2. The brochure lists 85458 as the Uvex 1 boot, and x-tended support as 85128 in red and 85118 in grey. The grey amazon card prints 85142. The S2 card prints 85458 under an x-tended title. The BOA card, model 65322, is 3.2 from five reviews and one non-UK text. A dial does not fill that file.

When to pick which

Choose Uvex 1 for dry indoor work when the title prints the class. The perforated S1 states metal-free, ESD, SR, and W11, and it is the wrong upper in the cold or where a midsole is required. The Duo is the light-areas S1 if you can accept a blank slip mark. Choose Uvex 2 for leather and an S3 or S3L title. The leather card has 946 reviews. The BOA card states metal-free and a dial, with no UK wear record in this file. Use the quatro, article 68792, when the work is the heavier site list on that Uvex page. It is S3 SRC, with eight texts. A dry warehouse allowed on S1 points to a Uvex 1 that prints S1. Mud and a leather S3 title point to Uvex 2. Length and width are on the Uvex safety shoes size chart.

Common questions

Which family for a warehouse?
Uvex places Uvex 1 in warehouses, factories, and logistics. For a dry shift allowed on S1, take a Uvex 1 that prints S1. The perforated card also prints metal-free, ESD, SR, and W11. Leather and a debris-clearing sole are the Uvex 2 brief. Offcuts still need the perforation mark on the title. The family name does not add it.
Is Uvex 2 always S3?
Uvex 2 is a family. Here the leather card is S3 SRC ESD and the BOA card is metal-free S3L, the 2022 non-metal test with a 4.5 mm nail. Another model could carry a different letter. The range page’s metal-free midsole still has to appear on the title you buy.
Is Uvex 1 always metal-free on the amazon card?
The range page describes a metal-free xenova cap. In this set only the perforated S1 prints metal-free. The Duo, the S2 boot, the plain shoe, and the grey x-tended shoe leave the toe material off the title. If the site rule is metal-free, buy the title that says so.
What is x-tended support, and which code is it?
Uvex lists x-tended support as 85128 in red and 85118 in grey. The grey amazon card prints 85142. The S2 card prints 85458, the brochure’s plain Uvex 1 boot. Match 85118 or 85128 if that is the shoe, and treat the other codes as a different listing.
When do I step up to Uvex 3?
The quatro, model 68792, is the heavier site boot: S3 SRC, £94.99, 4.3 from 25 reviews, eight texts. They call it light, one says waterproof, and one pair arrived with a broken lace link. Use it when the work matches Uvex’s list for 68792 and you accept that sample. A BOA dial on a Uvex 2 does not make it a Uvex 3.
