Bosch laser measure outdoors

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are on a south-facing extension in July, the brick is in full sun, and the spot you could see in the kitchen has gone. A brighter colour on a 50 m tool is the wrong fix. Bosch's application overview reserves sunny outdoor work for the long-range camera pair. In this set that tool is the GLM 150-27 C, listed on amazon.co.uk at £299.44 on 20 October 2026. The [Bosch laser rangefinder comparison](/hub/measuring-equipment/bosch-laser-rangefinder) shows where it sits against the shorter models. This page is the sun and the long shot only. Why the spot disappears

Sun on the target is a different problem from a bright room. A 50 m Bosch, red or green, still needs you to aim by eye. Bosch does not mark the green 50 m tools for sunny outdoor work. A green beam at 515 nm can help in a glazed kitchen, which is the job on the Bosch green laser measure vs red page. It does not become a viewfinder. The moment the dot vanishes, you need a camera.

What the GLM 150-27 C adds

The GLM 150-27 C adds a digital viewfinder with zoom so you can put the spot on a distant point and fire while you watch the screen. Bosch Professional GB lists it as 650 nm red, laser class 2, under 1 mW, 0.08–150 m and ±1.5 mm. The amazon.co.uk listing does not name the laser colour. Use Bosch's 650 nm. This tool is red. The application overview gives it a 1.0 m drop, while the IP65 50 m tools are listed at 1.5 m. The amazon listing does not state a drop height. IP54 is dust and splashes, not a jet wash. A shaded job can stay on a 50 m tool from the best Bosch laser measure page.

The range you should plan for

Plan the awkward shot on the unfavourable line. The en-GB manual states 0.08–60 m and ±3.0 mm when conditions are unfavourable. Sunlit brick, a wet surface, or pale render is that case until you have proved otherwise on that wall. The camera helps you place the spot. It does not restore the favourable tolerance by itself. Glass, standing water and mirror-bright cladding are poor targets. For edges and the ten-shot check, use how to use a Bosch laser measure. If you cannot confirm the spot on the screen, do not store the number.

Class 2 on a site

The GLM 150-27 C is class 2, the same class Bosch states for the shorter meters in this set. GOV.UK says staring into the beam is hazardous, and dazzle still matters at height. HSE treats class 2 as acceptable in normal use. Employers still assess foreseeable risk under the rules on artificial optical radiation. Eye-safe belongs to class 1. If the job is a boundary or a structural opening, call a surveyor. The camera places a spot. It does not replace a measured survey.

Common questions

Can a 50 m Bosch laser measure work in full sun?
A 50 m Bosch can measure outside while you can still see the spot, for example on a shaded wall. Bosch does not mark the 50 m tools, including the green GLM 50-23 G and GLM 50-27 CG, for sunny outdoor work. One UK review of the GLM 50-23 G found the green dot little use in full sun. When the spot disappears, the GLM 150-27 C's camera is the tool in this set built for that shot.
What does the camera on the GLM 150-27 C do?
The camera is a digital viewfinder with zoom. You use it to place a red spot you cannot see with the naked eye, then take the reading while you watch the screen. UK reviews in the 386-count pool praise it for that placement. It does not turn the meter into a point-to-point tool, and it does not keep the favourable 150 m and ±1.5 mm once the manual's unfavourable conditions apply.
Is the outdoor Bosch laser measure green?
The GLM 150-27 C is red. Bosch Professional GB states 650 nm. The amazon.co.uk attribute list does not name a colour, so follow the manufacturer page. The green tools in this set are the GLM 50-23 G and the GLM 50-27 CG, at 515 nm, and Bosch's overview leaves them off the sunny-outdoor row. Paying for green does not add this camera.
How far does it measure when conditions are poor?
The en-GB manual states 0.08–60 m and ±3.0 mm in unfavourable conditions, and 0.08–150 m and ±1.5 mm in favourable conditions. Use 60 m as the planning figure for sun, a poor surface, or any shot you cannot treat as favourable. The £299.44 listing's up to 150 m is the long figure. The camera helps you aim. It does not rewrite the unfavourable line.
Is IP54 enough outside?
IP54 covers dust and splashes. It does not cover water jets, and it is not the IP65 rating on the GLM 50-27 C, the GLM 50-27 CG or the GLM 50-23 G. Bosch's overview also lists a 1.0 m drop for the GLM 150-27 C, against 1.5 m for those IP65 tools. The amazon listing does not state a drop height. Keep it out of a jet wash, and do not treat robust as a submersion claim.
Does the GLM 150-27 C do point-to-point?
A UK reviewer looked for point-to-point at this price and did not find it. You measure from the tool to a target, with the camera helping you see where the red spot lands. If the distance you need is between two remote points, this model does not close that gap. Pair it with a method you can stand at one end of, or bring in a surveyor when the line is a boundary.
