Truck crane capacity

Updated: 22 October 2026

You opened an amazon.co.uk title and saw two pound figures in the same line, or a winch rating that looks bigger than anything you would lift. Truck crane capacity, for this page, is the lowest figure that applies to this boom position, this rope layer and this rigging, not the largest marketing line. The [pick-up crane comparison](/hub/lifting-equipment/pick-up-crane) lists four captures with those clashes. This page is capacity and marking, not bolt patterns or a ranking. Two machines in one title

A bed jib is a structure: base, column, boom, sheave and the pins that change reach. A 12 V winch is a pulling machine on the drum. The winch can stall or jump a rope layer while the boom is still inside its structural limit, and the boom can be overloaded while the winch still pulls. Vestil's truck jib tables show winch hook capacity separately from retracted and extended hook ratings. Consumer titles often paste the winch pull beside a smaller crane figure. Rated pull is often the first rope layer, and double-lining changes the arithmetic. When a title says 3,500 lb, you still do not know the jib safe working load at full boom without a chart. Start with the crane figure if the listing gives one clearly. The winch figure compares motors. It is not permission to hang that mass at full reach.

Longer boom, lower load

Moment is why reach matters. Weight times distance from the column tries to tip the truck and bend the boom, so industrial charts drop hook capacity as the boom extends and as the angle changes. Extended capacity is often near half the retracted figure on the same industrial family. LOLER regulation 7 expects that safe working load for each configuration, on the machine or kept with it. DEFNES claims 7,000 lb at maximum height while the title also prints 5,000 lb. Distrust that until a chart proves it. A jib does not get stronger as the hook moves farther from the base. A breakage note near 250 lb in the review file is one report, not a derating formula you can invent.

How to read these four listings

Pismire prints 1,100 lb as the crane and 3,500 lb as the 12 V winch. For a lift plan, use 1,100 lb, about 499 kg as arithmetic for your notes, not as an Amazon line. Do not plan 3,500 lb on the jib. There is still no table for each boom hole. DEFNES prints 7,000 lb and 5,000 lb, and repeats 7,000 lb at maximum height. Both are unverified without a chart, and the maximum-height line fights normal reach derating. Treat the row as unknown until the seller resolves it. The Generic row and VACARX print no safe working load. VACARX adds hook height, rope length and base size, and still no pound or kilogram limit. You cannot convert a blank into kilograms.

What you may treat as a capacity

At work, LOLER expects the safe working load to be marked. Where the limit depends on configuration, that information should cover each configuration or travel with the machine. Set the jib for the configuration you are using and do not exceed the marked figure. Slings and shackles sit on their own examination cycle when the equipment is used at work. None of the four captures states BS EN 12999 or prints a LOLER certificate. Private owners may not share an employer's examination duty. You still should not lift people, stand under the load, or treat winch pull as a jib rating. Disagreeing title numbers are advertising. A plate bolted only into bed sheet can fail before the paper rating. Purchase order is the pick-up crane buying guide. This page assumes the mount is sound before you hang mass on the hook.

Common questions

Which number do I use, the crane or the winch?
Use the crane figure for the jib at your boom setting, if the listing gives it clearly. The winch figure is the drum's claim and is not interchangeable. On Pismire that means 1,100 lb for the crane and 3,500 lb for the winch, and only the crane line belongs in the lift plan.
Does capacity fall when the boom is longer?
On properly marked equipment, yes. Weight farther from the column raises the moment, so charts drop the hook rating as the boom extends. These four listings do not print that curve, so a single title figure is not proof it holds at full reach.
Is 7,000 lb at maximum height believable?
Not without a chart. DEFNES prints 7,000 lb and 5,000 lb in the title, and a bullet repeats 7,000 lb at maximum height. That fights the usual fall in rating as reach grows. Treat both headline figures as unverified until the seller resolves the clash.
What is 1,100 lb in kilograms?
About 499 kg, as arithmetic for your worksheet. Amazon printed pounds on the Pismire title, and the conversion is not an extra claim on the listing. It is the crane line, not the 3,500 lb winch line, and it is still not a chart for each boom hole.
What if the listing prints no capacity at all?
You do not have a marked safe working load. The Generic row and VACARX print no pound or kilogram limit in this capture. Do not infer one from the shelf price, from a winch advert on another site, or from a larger number that is not on the page.
Does LOLER require a chart?
At work, regulation 7 requires the safe working load to be marked, and configuration information when the limit changes with boom position. That can sit on the machine or travel with it. A single mystery pound in a title is not enough.
Does the rope count as a lifting accessory?
Rope, hooks and slings can be lifting accessories under examination rules when the equipment is used at work. They sit on their own cycle, separate from the crane. Treat worn, frayed or jumped rope as out of service until a competent person says otherwise.
Can I lift a person if the number is high enough?
No. Lifting people is not the job of these consumer bed jibs. LOLER regulation 7 forbids using unmarked equipment to lift people, and a high winch figure does not change that. Do not stand under the load either. These pages do not describe a passenger lift.
