Mini dumper buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are about to spend more than £1,000, and amazon.co.uk is using mini dumper for two machines that do not share a gate, a plug, or a checkout. One is a walk-behind electric wheelbarrow. The other is a tracked crawler whose own bullets say the price is not final. This mini dumper buying guide is the order of checks before you compare models: ground, real load, power and tipping, then UK paperwork. Peter F. read five amazon.co.uk listings on 20 October 2026. There was no lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The rows sit together in the [mini dumper comparison](/hub/lifting-equipment/mini-dumper).

Wheels or tracks comes before the brand

Flat paths, a drive, and a courtyard that stays firm are a wheeled electric barrow job. Soft banks and spoil that swallows a tyre are what tracks are for. ManoMano's UK guide makes that split for compact petrol tracked barrows of a few hundred kilograms. The three crawlers here list 2,041 kg and 1.52 m by 3.05 m by 2.03 m, which will not pass a side gate. Extol B0DYK2W1GK is £1,179.84 and 96.5 cm wide. B0DGLQLJNW is £2,305.33, 84 cm wide, and 108 kg. The crawler shelves, from £3,892.47 to £4,194.27, are not final prices. Name the ground first. The access split is on electric wheelbarrow vs tracked mini dumper.

Match litres and kilograms, then cut both on a slope

A 300 L tub and a 400 kg claim are different jobs. B0DYK2W1GK states 300 kg and 300 L. B0DGLQLJNW states 400 kg and 200 L. Mulch and split logs fill volume first. Wet spoil hits the kilogram limit while the tub still looks half empty. Neither Extol prints a slope rating, so the headline load is the level-ground claim. Power Pusher, a different barrow, publishes 350 kg on the level and 250 kg at 30 degrees. Use that only as a pattern. Do not copy those figures onto either Extol.

Power, tipping, and whether you can live with the machine

The power you can read on the electric pair is a battery. B0DYK2W1GK lists a 500 W motor and a removable 40 V / 6000 mAh pack described as IP64, B0DGLQLJNW lists a removable 54 V / 15 Ah pack and a brushless motor with gear. Neither page states a charger. Switching the motor off is not permission to push 300 kg up a drive. Review themes say a full 300 kg tub is hard to tip by hand. The 400 kg model uses a tilt rod and a manual downhill brake that can be set to stop. The sequence is on how to use a mini dumper.

UK supply checks before you pay

HSE's INDG271 expects UKCA or an accepted mark, a Declaration of Conformity, and English instructions before first use. UKCA is not stated on these five listings. The declaration is not proof you measured the slope. ROPS and seat belts belong to site dumpers, not a walk-behind barrow. On your own land there is no driving licence for this barrow. A public road is a different job. On 30 June 2026 the Office for Product Safety and Standards reported a border rejection of a different electric wheelbarrow: a two-pin unfused plug that cannot meet BS 1363, with a fire risk. That report does not name these Extol ASINs. If the charger is not a fused BS 1363 plug, do not charge it. A review theme on the 300 kg barrow says the sheet in the box was only in Czech.

Common questions

Is a mini dumper the same as an electric wheelbarrow?
On amazon.co.uk, in this set, two of the five listings are walk-behind electric wheelbarrows and three are tracked crawlers. A mini dumper in UK shopping language often means the powered barrow. Hire-shop pages often mean a petrol tracked dumper. Read the machine type on the listing before you compare the kilogram. A 300 L electric tub and a 2,041 kg crawler are not substitutes for the same gate.
Should I buy wheels or tracks for a garden path?
Choose wheels if the path, drive, or courtyard stays firm and the width is about 84 cm or 96.5 cm. Choose tracks if mud, a wet bank, or soft spoil will make tyres dig in. The tracked listings in this comparison state 3.05 m on one axis, so they fail a normal garden path even when tracks would be the right idea. A compact tracked barrow from a hire shop is a different width class.
Can I trust a 300 kg or 400 kg claim on a slope?
You can treat it as the level-ground figure printed on that amazon.co.uk page, and no further. Neither Extol listing states a slope rating. Other makers cut capacity as the slope increases. Power Pusher's 350 kg to 250 kg at 30° is their machine, not yours. A 45 degree crawler bullet is not a licence to climb your drive.
What UK paperwork should come with a new powered barrow?
INDG271 looks for UKCA or an accepted mark, a Declaration of Conformity, and English instructions before first use. None of these five pages shows a UKCA mark. The charger should be a fused BS 1363 plug. At work, PUWER still requires a suitable machine and trained use. The paperwork does not replace a slope figure you can find on the page.
Why do some amazon.co.uk mini dumpers tell me to message the seller?
The three generic crawler listings say the shelf price is not final. WHJ-SDYD-06, FIV-SDYD-08, and WHJ-SDYD-17 are written as quotes, with options such as engine type on at least one page. That is a made-to-order path. It is the wrong path when you wanted a barrow with a price you can pay at checkout and a battery you can lift indoors.
