Aluminium sack truck buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are comparing folding hand trucks and heavier aluminium sack barrows on amazon.co.uk, and the kilogram in the title may not match how you will use the truck. Convertibles often print a second rating for platform mode. This aluminium sack truck buying guide orders the checks: load for the mode, empty weight, wheels, then fold and strap. The full table is in the [aluminium sack truck comparison](/hub/lifting-equipment/aluminium-sack-truck). Peter F. read those listings on 20 October 2026. This is not a lab test. Start with the load for the mode you will use

A sack truck is a two-wheel lever: the toe plate goes under the load, you tilt back over the axle, and you roll. Convertibles add castors so the frame can lie flat, and that shape usually has a different rating. Move-It states 70 kg on two wheels and 120 kg on four. The Stanley SXWT-MT515 states 200 kg as a hand truck and 250 kg as a platform. REDCAMP mixes a pound figure in the specification with a lower two-wheel bullet. Quote the number for the shape you will use. A single-mode folder such as the Einhell BT-HT 90 at 90 kg, or the MoverX at 85 kg, has one sack-mode figure. It is a manufacturer rating, not an HSE permission. BIL Group sometimes suggests working about twenty percent under a printed rating. Treat that as one seller's rule of thumb, not law.

Empty weight decides whether you will use it

The headline kilograms are the goods, not the frame you lift. Entry folders here sit around 3 kg to 6 kg empty: the WMR at 3.37 kg, the MoverX 85 kg model at 3.1 kg, the Einhell at about 5 kg. They slip into a boot. The Stanley multi-truck weighs 17 kg before anything is loaded, and the REDCAMP convertible is 11 kg. The HT525 states 200 kg at about 7 kg empty, and it does not fold to boot thickness. If you will never lift the bare frame, empty weight is secondary. If you will, a 3 kg folder you carry beats a 200 kg headline you leave in the shed.

Match the wheel to the floor

Solid rubber appears on the Einhell, WMR, Yaheetech and REDCAMP extracts. It does not puncture on a smooth floor and it feels harsh on gravel. Pneumatic tyres on the Stanley HT525 and MT515 ride bumps and grass, and they can go flat. The CAMBA Moova uses large castor-style wheels that reviewers link to garden steps and uneven paths, not to a slim hallway. BIL Group notes that much of its own aluminium range ships on foam-filled wheels. That is one maker's mix, not a national rule. When a listing says rubber without solid or pneumatic, as on the MoverX rows, you still do not know whether the tyre is flat-free.

Fold, handle and a real strap

Folding is collapsed thickness and handle height when extended. Light folders collapse to a few centimetres. UK reviews criticise the CAMBA for needing roughly thirty centimetres of storage depth. Telescopic handles on MoverX, CAMBA, Move-It and Yaheetech should land between waist and shoulder. HSE handle-height notes are written for employers; the same problem shows up at home when a grip stops at hip height. A bungee is weaker than a proper strap. WMR and Yaheetech say a strap is included; the Einhell extract does not. Hinge bolts on folding trucks work loose in UK reviews in this set, so check them before a heavy appliance. The routine is on the how to use a sack truck page.

What the amazon.co.uk bands can and cannot do

Entry listings here, about £23 to £35, are light folders for flats and occasional appliances under their stated loads, not 200 kg site barrows. Mid listings, about £70 to £110, pay for convertibility, stair-oriented wheels or a serious two-wheel line. The Stanley MT515 sits at about £183.91 with a 17 kg empty weight. None of those bands replaces a trade stair climber that prints 60 kg on the flat and 30 kg on stairs. If stairs dominate, read sack truck for stairs before you buy on guide wording. If the empty truck goes into a van every morning at the top of trade ranges, aluminium or steel sack truck says when to leave this category.

Common questions

What load should I look for on amazon.co.uk?
Use the figure for the mode you will use. Two-wheel sack work needs the two-wheel rating, not the platform or four-wheel number on a convertible. A single-mode folder has one line, and that line is still a manufacturer rating. It is not an HSE permission for a slope, a narrow doorway or a flight of stairs.
Will a folding model live in a car boot?
The lightest folders here fold flat enough for a boot if you measure your own load space. The CAMBA and the multi-truck shapes need more depth. UK reviews put the CAMBA near thirty centimetres of storage, against five or six centimetres for a flat fold. Collapsed thickness is the check, not the kilogram in the title.
Why do some listings say both steel and aluminium?
Manufacturers split poles, plates and handles across metals. WMR, Move-It, REDCAMP and Yaheetech show mixed fields in this set. A bullet can mention a steel frame while the material line says aluminium. Do not treat the word aluminium in the title as the whole frame until you have read both lines on the live listing.
Is 90 kg enough for a washing machine?
It can be if the appliance weight and the toe plate stay inside the rating and you strap the load. A machine that is under 90 kg on paper can still be awkward on a narrow plate. If the machine exceeds the figure, or the foot will not sit on the plate, size up or get help.
What does the manufacturer rating not tell me?
It does not tell you how the load feels on a slope, whether your doorway is wide enough, or whether stairs are safe. HSE force notes for employers are a separate limit from the kilogram on the toe plate. Those checks need the route, the technique, and sometimes a different product class.
