Scarifier blade buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have a scarifier in the shed, or a rotary mower you hope can do the same job, and an amazon.co.uk search for a scarifier blade returns a knife roller, a bag of springs, and a flat bar with tines. Those are three different parts. This scarifier blade buying guide tells you which object matches the machine you already own, and which measurements to take before you trust a title that says fits most. The nine listings in our [scarifier blade comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/scarifier-blade) are the worked examples. This page is the checklist. Peter F. checked those listings on 22 October 2026. This is not a laboratory test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Three different parts use the same search

Name the host first, because the word blade is doing too much work on this search. A knife roller is a drum of steel blades for one scarifier, with its own shaft and bearings. It stays on that scarifier. A spring refill is coils for an electric fan drum: wire diameter, coil diameter, and free length. A mower conversion bar is a flat steel strip, about 3.2–3.5 mm thick where these listings say so, used in place of the mowing blade. It rakes moss and usually leaves the grass box empty. Whether that bar is enough sits on scarifier blade for a lawn mower. A cylinder-mower cassette is outside this comparison.

What you measure before you order

Measure the old part, then read the listing. Working width comes first only because a bar that is merely close will hit the deck. After width, measure the centre hole and any adaptors, or the shaft and the pulley bore on a roller. Then the side holes and the spacing between them. Springs comb moss and should stay off the soil. Knives cut shallow slits where thatch is the problem. A 2-in-1 uses different drums, which is the subject of scarifier springs or blades. Last, check adaptors, bearings, and the stated spring count. Fits most is a range. When the centre bore is absent, you have a width and you do not have a fit. No listing here prints a bolt torque. In this set the shelf runs from about £16 to about £45. That is a rule of thumb, not a market average.

How that looks on real listings

The Einhell 3420021 names the petrol scarifier GC-SC 2240 P, 18 steel blades, and a 40 cm width, at about £37.95. If the type plate is not that model, it is the wrong object. Reviews still report a pulley about 1 mm out, or a roller about 1.5 cm short. The OTOTEC pack names Parkside PLV 1500 A1, B1, C1 and C2, and PLVA 40-Li A1 and B1, with 1.6 mm wire, a 12 mm coil, and 45 pieces, at about £15.99. Free length is missing. Reviews say some springs were too long for a PLV 1500 B1. Pliers are not the remedy. The perfektGarten 405 mm bar, at about £22.90, has a 32 mm centre and adaptors for 19, 16 and 10 mm. The 410 mm bars have a 21 mm centre and adaptors for 18, 16 and 10 mm. A 24 mm centre sits outside both sets. The Redpart Z8390, at about £19.99, states 16 in and states no bore. That blank is the fail.

What this page leaves open

A higher price is not a test. Nothing here was scored on a lawn, and BS EN 13684 does not certify a loose bar you bolt under a mower. Your tape overrides the score. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 a claim is against the seller. A part that misses a model the listing named is that kind of complaint. A part that misses a mower the listing never named is often the wrong part.

Common questions

Is a scarifier blade the same as a scarifier?
No. The scarifier is the machine. In shop language the blade might be the knife roller, a pack of springs, or a bar that replaces the blade on a rotary mower. This guide assumes the host is already yours. A spare from this search does not become a scarifier if you do not own one.
Will fits most cover my mower?
It covers the mowers the seller had in mind, which the page does not list. The Redpart title says most 16 in rotary mowers and prints no bore. The Oregon titles say most petrol mowers and rely on washers. The perfektGarten bars still miss a 24 mm hub in a review. If your centre is outside the printed set, the phrase does not include you.
Why are there two 410 mm bars at different prices?
Both print a 21 mm centre and adaptors for 18, 16 and 10 mm, at 3.5 mm thick. One is about £16.45, with four hardened springs, 3.8 from 26 ratings, and a review that received two springs. One is about £26.30, alloy steel, four hardened double springs, 3.5 from six ratings, and a review of tines hitting the deck. The gap is a different spring and a different complaint record, not a lab grade.
Can I use a mower bar on a scarifier, or the reverse?
No. A conversion bar replaces the blade on a rotary mower. A knife roller or a spring pack belongs on the scarifier it names. The shaft, the pulley, and the deck are different, so the parts do not cross over. The Einhell roller under a mower, or an Oregon bar in a Parkside, is the wrong object.
Does a higher price mean a tested blade?
No. The upper band here is about £36–£45, and that is a shelf band. Einhell at about £37.95 has 187 ratings on one model. Bluemars at about £39.99 has five ratings. The count tells you more than the pounds. We did not scarify a trial plot, and we do not claim a lifespan in seasons.
