Leaf collector buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have a lawn under oak or sycamore, a green bin at the back, and a search page that mixes blowers with rakes. A leaf collector buying guide should settle the job before you compare brands. In the six amazon.co.uk listings kept here, that job is a long-handled grabber or a manual push sweeper. Nothing in the set is a blower or a vacuum, and nothing needs a mains plug. Peter F. read those listings on 22 October 2026, including the conflicts printed on the pages. This was not a lab test. Prices are the captured shelf prices in pounds. The rows sit on the [leaf collector comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/leaf-collector).

What you are actually buying

A collector in this category picks leaves up. It does not blow them down the drive. The grabber is about £18.90, at 1.17 kg, with no bag. You gather a pile, close the scoops, and carry it to a barrow or a bin. A push sweeper is the other shape: you walk, the wheels turn brushes, and debris goes into a hopper. The five sweepers run from about £90.95 to about £163.29. A courtyard with two heaps does not need a 15 kg frame. An open lawn is not cleared by a scoop that only works on a pile you have already made. If you are still choosing wheels or a scoop, start with leaf grabber vs lawn sweeper. A Handy 66 cm sweeper on other UK shelves is not one of these six rows.

Width and bag

Working width is how much lawn one pass covers. Capacity is how soon you stop to empty. The Ark Mat prints 530 mm and a 100 litre bag, at 8.4 kg. The VEVOR GT1110 prints 26 inches, which is 66 cm, and a 7 cubic foot hopper, at 15 kg and about £102.90. It does not print litres. The worksky title says 26 inch and 105 litres, while a bullet says 22 inch and 3.8 cubic feet. Treat that as a conflict. Both Gardena rows leave litres and working width unprinted. The 03565-88, at about £136.02 and 8.2 kg, says the bag is removable and then stops. Do not paste a 90 litre figure from another Gardena description onto that ASIN. Handy shop sweepers of about 200 litres, about £153 to about £159.99, are not rows here.

Weight, height and surfaces

The listing weight is the empty machine, not the load at the end of a pass. The grabber is 1.17 kg until the scoops are full, and UK reviews say a tall green bin takes arm strength. The worksky is the lightest sweeper spec at 7.87 kg. The VEVOR is 15 kg empty. One worksky review describes a bag that split after two uses. These listings do not share one brush height. The Ark Mat prints 6.35 cm to 16.35 cm and also a single position. The worksky prints about an inch, from -0.28 inch to +1.06 inch. The VEVOR says five positions, then a maximum of 29.5 inches, kept as a conflict. One Ark Mat review still missed a fence edge.

What to skip in the small print

The VEVOR line about collecting about 80 percent in one pass is a listing claim. The saved file has five United Kingdom reviews against 3.9 from 3,178, and one says the machine collects nothing. The worksky line of 4.2 from 17 reviews is too thin for about £94.99 to become the best-value row. The Gardena 03566-20 says a lithium-ion battery is required and included. The technical block says the tool is hand powered, and the rank sits under Toys & Games. Do not buy it as cordless. Common questions

Is a leaf collector a blower?
Not in this comparison. The six listings are a long-handled grabber and five manual push sweepers. A blower moves leaves into a heap. A collector scoops a pile or brushes leaves into a bag as you walk. A fan that needs a battery or a mains lead is another category.
What working width is enough for a normal UK lawn?
There is no single width for every garden. A UK sweeper guide often talks about 60–70 cm, which is the band the VEVOR states at 66 cm. The Ark Mat states 530 mm. The worksky prints both 26 inch and 22 inch, so do not plan the lawn from the title alone.
Is 100 litres enough, or do I want about 200?
A 100 litre bag, which the Ark Mat prints, means more stops on a leaf-heavy day. Handy machines about £153 to about £159.99 with about 200 litres are not rows here. The VEVOR prints 7 cubic feet, not litres. Both Gardena rows state no capacity.
Why do two numbers appear for the same width?
Because the page was written twice. The worksky title says 26 inch and a bullet says 22 inch. The Ark Mat prints 530 mm working width and 670 mm overall, without explaining the gap. The VEVOR wheel-size field prints 10 centimetres. Measure the machine you receive.
Does the grabber replace a sweeper?
It replaces the lifting, not the gathering. The Spear & Jackson at about £18.90 has no wheels and no bag. Reviews describe less bending than short glove grabbers, and a struggle with a tall bin. Scattered leaves still want a rake or a sweeper.
Do I need a mains plug or a battery?
Not if the machine is actually manual. You push, or you squeeze the grabber. There is no BS 1363 plug and no decibel claim. The Gardena 03566-20 says a battery is included and also says it is hand powered. Do not pay about £163.29 for a cordless tool on that conflict.
