Ride on mower trailer buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have a ride-on, a heap of prunings or a barrow of soil, and a cart advert whose load figure is larger than anything in the mower handbook. This ride on mower trailer buying guide puts that handbook figure first, then the hitch, then the bed. The six amazon.co.uk listings we kept are on the [lawn tractor trailer comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/lawn-tractor-trailer), priced from about £129.99 to about £505.99 on 22 October 2026. Products Compared is an editorial reading of those listings, public UK manuals and shop pages. We did not tow the carts. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the mower, not the cart

The weight you may pull is in your mower's manual, under towed equipment, and it is often far below the trailer badge. Husqvarna publishes figures for named models only: the R 112C states 100 kg, the R 316TX family 125 kg at 10 degrees, the R 419TsX and R 420TsX AWD 150 kg, and the P 524X 200 kg at 10 degrees. They are examples, not a UK average. A Stiga, Mountfield or Honda can print a different number, or none. A 410 kg, 1,000 lb or 750 lb cart claim can sit above a domestic 100–200 kg limit. Load to the handbook, because steering and braking get worse as the trailer gets heavier, especially downhill. If there is no tow figure, ask the dealer before you buy a cart.

Hitch before trailer

Many UK ride-ons leave the factory without a bracket. Parts shops sell a kit for a named cutting width, often about £45 to £112, and some kits exclude four-wheel drive. A Stiga hitch for 92–122 cm rear-collect machines is about £112 and excludes 4WD models in the 102 cm and 122 cm classes. Universal on a trailer title does not name your mower. None of the six listings itemises a hitch kit, so the bracket is a second purchase. If the kit page says it does not fit 4WD, that line beats the advert. Pin and clip come next, on the how to tow a trailer with a ride-on mower page.

Bed, volume and wheels

A mesh wagon lets soil and manure fall through. Reviewers of the VIVOHOME at about £129.99, 4.4 from 1,967 ratings, say sticks and soil drop through the floor. Logs and bags are the job if you add a board. A polyethylene shell holds wet muck you can rinse, and it still sits on a steel frame. A steel tipper takes logs better, and a thin floor may need a plywood liner. That choice is the steel or poly garden trailer page. Six cubic feet on the Yard Commander at about £208.99 fills quickly with prunings. Pneumatic tyres matter on turf. If a title prints two volumes, keep both figures.

Kit, conflicts and price bands

Most of these Amazon rows say assembly is required, or they leave that line blank. If a kit arrives bent, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 still expects goods to be as described, including a 30-day short-term right to reject. A bent latch is a reason to stop, not a job for a hammer. The Generic steel row at about £332.76 prints 17 cubic feet and 10 cubic feet, while the catalogue size is 10 × 10 × 10 cm and the item weight is 50 g. The LLEZKBR row at about £397.39 prints 150 kg and 130 × 52 × 87 cm, and also 30 × 30 × 30 mm and 1 kg. Do not average either pair.

Common questions

What can my ride-on actually tow?
Read the towed-equipment line in that model's handbook, including any gradient cap, and treat it as the limit for the loaded trailer. Husqvarna's published examples run from 100 kg on the R 112C to 200 kg at 10 degrees on the P 524X. The cart's kilogram or pound claim does not replace that line.
Does the machine already have a hitch?
Look for a bracket and a pin hole before you trust the trailer title. Many UK ride-ons need a separate kit, often about £45–£112, and some kits exclude 4WD. None of the six listings names your mower. A review that mentions a John Deere is one owner's machine.
Should I buy a mesh wagon, a poly tipper or a steel tipper?
Use mesh for bags and logs if the floor can leak soil. Use a poly dump for a wet load you will rinse, remembering the frame is still steel. Use a steel tipper for logs or rubble when the floor is thick enough, or lined. The mower's tow limit still applies to all three.
Is 15 cubic feet the inside of the bed?
Only if you measure it. One United States review of the yellow Pisumsativum cart at about £351.99 describes about 8 square feet against a 15 cubic foot reading of the advert. That is not a tape of the other 15 cubic foot listing at about £505.99, which has no reviews.
Is a flat-pack the same as a trailer that arrives welded?
No. Several Amazon rows say assembly is required, while some shop trailers are sold as arriving assembled. Read that line before you pay. A kit that arrives bent is a consumer-rights problem, not a puzzle to solve with a hammer.
Is 410 kg on the cart the number I should load?
The VIVOHOME listing prints up to 410 kg and says long-term heavy loading is not recommended. Load to the handbook figure, which on the Husqvarna examples is 100–200 kg. Reviewers also report tip-overs once the mesh trolley is loaded, including on a slope.
