Cordless vs corded lawn mower

Updated: October 2026

The lawn reaches past the patio, the socket is on the house wall, and you are deciding whether a lead is a nuisance or a battery is a gamble. A cordless vs corded lawn mower choice in this set is three battery kits against corded mowers that keep going while the power is on, if you keep the lead behind you. The [lawn mower comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/lawn-mower) is the eleven-row table. Cordless rows run from about £129.99 to about £249.99, corded rows from about £49.99 to about £158.31. What you actually get in this set

Three cordless rows state a battery. The Maxlander, at about £129.99, states two 18 V 4.0 Ah packs, a 33 cm cut and a 30 L bag, with 4.5 from 67 reviews, so the score falls to 82. The swift, at about £134.99, states one 40 V 2.0 Ah pack, a 22 cm mulch cut and no box, score 90. The Litheli, at about £249.99, states two 5.0 Ah packs and a 43 cm self-propelled deck, score 86, with no box in the bullets. Stated leads of 10 m are on the BLACK+DECKER hover, the Einhell GC-EM 1600/37, the Flymo Hover Vac 250 and the Hyundai HYM3800E. The Hyundai HYM3313E states 11 m and says the lead is detachable. The Speedi-Mo and the Bosch EasyRotak 32-220 do not state a length.

Runtime against a lead that does not go flat

A corded mower runs for as long as the supply is there. Which? summaries put other cordless mowers on a wide spread, with averages around 22 or 25 minutes. Do not paste that average onto the swift, the Maxlander or the Litheli. The corded hazard is the reel. Electrical Safety First wants an outdoor extension fully unwound, with a thermal cut-out, and not plugged into a second extension. A coiled drum can sit well below the 1,200–1,600 W these corded mowers state. Use an RCD. A black lead, which BLACK+DECKER reviews mention, is easier to mow because you lose it in the grass. A second pack is a swap, not mains.

Weight is not automatic

The lightest stated weight is the cordless swift at 5.2 kg. The heaviest is the cordless Litheli at 14.9 kg. The Maxlander is 11.1 kg, beside corded rotaries around 11–12 kg. The corded hovers are the light end of the mains rows: the Hover Vac 250 at 6.9 kg and the BLACK+DECKER at 7.52 kg. The Hyundai HYM3313E is 7.5 kg with a 30 L box. You can lift those without a pack, and you still trail a lead. The Litheli states folding vertical storage, which helps 14.9 kg and does not make it a small-garden weight.

Which side, on what condition

Choose the swift if you can leave the clippings on a small lawn, the Maxlander if you want two packs and a 30 L bag despite 67 reviews, or the Litheli if you will pay about £249.99 for a driven deck. Choose corded when you need to keep cutting and you will keep the lead behind you on an RCD, with the extension fully unwound. The Einhell at about £114.99 states a 38 L box, a 10 m lead and 1,600 W if you want a collecting rotary near the swift’s price. The BLACK+DECKER at about £49.99 is the cheap hover if the lawn is tidy and you do not need a box. Two rows leave the lead length blank. A medium lawn within a stated 10 m lead is a mains mower that does not go flat.

Common questions

Are the batteries included on the three cordless rows?
Yes, as the saved bullets state it. The swift has one 40 V 2.0 Ah pack and a fast charger. The Maxlander has two 18 V 4.0 Ah packs and a fast charger. The Litheli has two 5.0 Ah packs and a charger. That is these three rows, not every cordless listing on amazon.co.uk. A warranty length printed only on the swift’s own website is not in the Amazon cells.
How long will a battery last?
Only the swift states a seller figure: up to 35 minutes, beside a 50 m² line. The Maxlander cell mentions 45 minutes as an average battery life. The Litheli bullets state no minutes, and reviews mention about 25–30 minutes. Which? averages around 22 or 25 minutes come from other models. Do not treat them as these three. A second pack is a swap, not proof you will finish a large lawn.
What is wrong with a coiled extension reel?
Left coiled, the reel can overheat because it is not rated for the full load until the cable is off the drum. These corded mowers are stated at 1,200–1,600 W. Electrical Safety First wants the outdoor lead fully unwound, a thermal cut-out, and no second extension plugged into the first. Use an RCD. If the lawn is beyond the lead, stop. Do not join two reels to reach the far corner.
Are cordless mowers lighter?
Not as a class in this set. The swift is the lightest row at 5.2 kg, and the Litheli is the heaviest at 14.9 kg. Corded hovers sit at 6.9 kg and 7.52 kg, under the Maxlander at 11.1 kg. A battery can sit on a very small deck or on the widest one here. Read the kilogram cell. Do not read the word cordless as a weight.
Does automatic mean self-propelled?
On the Litheli, yes. The cell says self-propelled, and that is what automatic is doing there. It is not a mower that works without you. The swift is marked Manual. The Maxlander does not state a drive. No other row in the eleven says self-propelled. If you wanted a driven wheel, the Litheli is the only stated one, at the highest saved price, and you still walk behind it.
