Hover mower buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have a small or awkward lawn, a socket on the house, and a list of corded machines that all claim to float. This hover mower buying guide settles the job before the star line: clippings, then width, weight and the lead, then the saved price. The pounds and the shared review counts sit on the [hover mower comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/hover-mower). Who should leave each row is the [best hover mower](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/hover-mower/sub/hover-mower-best) page. A bank is [hover mower for slopes](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/hover-mower/sub/hover-mower-slopes). The other format is [hover mower vs rotary mower](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/hover-mower/sub/hover-mower-vs-rotary). Products Compared used saved amazon.co.uk listings on 22 October 2026 and did not mow them. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are actually buying

A hover in this set is a walk-behind rotary on a fan-driven cushion of air. The Royal Horticultural Society describes it as a rotary on air and says there is no self-propelled version. AC/DC and Automatic on some specification cells sit next to a mains cable. UK mains are 230 V. Outdoors, use an RCD at no more than 30 mA. The Health and Safety Executive says an RCD does not stop every shock. Amazon’s Hover Lawn Mowers node has listed machines that do not float. On the BLACK+DECKER page the title says hover mower and the rank cell says Rotary Mowers. Use the bullets that describe air under the deck. The score is the star rating times 20, with 8 points off under 100 reviews, and that is not a cut test.

Box, mulch, or neither

Decide the clippings before you compare watts. Stated boxes here are 15 litres on the Flymo Hover Vac 270, 20 litres on the EasiGlide 300 and the EasiGlide 330, and 26 litres on the EasiGlide 360V, the EasiGlide Plus 360V, and the LawnMaster MEH1836-01. Only the Plus bullets add a vision window. The MEH1733-01 prints a box and no litres. Only the MEH1836-01 switches between mulch and a 26 litre box, and it is the only stated 15 m lead. Mulch or non-collect rows are the Turbo Lite 250, the Turbo Lite 270, the SimpliGlide 360, and the LawnMaster MEH1633M-01. The BLACK+DECKER does not state a box. Flymo says some fines still return even on a collector, and grass blows at a hard edge.

Width, weight, and the lead

The 25 cm Turbo Lite 250 and the 27 cm Hover Vac 270 and Turbo Lite 270 are the short decks. From 30 cm upward you cover more per pass, up to 36 cm. A wider cut does not lengthen the cable. Most bullets say 10 m. The MEH1836-01 says 15 m. The mulch LawnMaster says a long cord and prints no metres. The Turbo Lite 250 card says 5.95 kg. Flymo’s own page prints 5.1 kg. The EasiGlide 360V card says 10.8 kg, the heaviest here.

What the saved prices cover

Saved captures put entry at about £49.99 to about £79.99, the middle at about £84.00 to about £110.99, and the top at about £119.88 to about £132.00. A bestseller view on 22 October 2026 showed about £60.00 on a Turbo Lite 270 row. The saved price for that ASIN is about £84.00. The EasiGlide 300 and 330 both print 4.1 from 4,731, and the Turbo Lite 250 and the SimpliGlide 360 both print 4.2 from 3,499. Do not add a pair. The EasiGlide 330 title says 1,900 W and a bullet says 1,700 W. At 50 cm width or under, the 2001 outdoor-noise rules set a Stage II limit of 96 dB. These listings print no decibel figure, so that limit is not a measurement of them.

Common questions

Do I need a grass box?
You need a box if you want the bulk of the clippings off the lawn. Collect rows here state 15, 20, or 26 litres, or a box with no litre figure. Mulch rows return the grass. Flymo says some fines still blow even with a box, especially at a hard edge. A box helps when you rake paths after every cut. It is the wrong reason to buy a hover if emptying a 15 litre box every few passes will annoy you.
Is 25 cm enough for a small lawn?
The Turbo Lite 250 is 25 cm and 5.95 kg on the saved file, which suits a small lawn broken up by beds. You will make more passes than with a 36 cm deck. Width does not give you an area in square metres. Only the BLACK+DECKER bullet claims up to 250 m², and that figure is the maker’s line, not a garden measured for this comparison.
Why do most leads say 10 m?
Ten metres is what most of these bullets print. One LawnMaster states 15 m, and one says only a long cord. A 10 m lead reaches a small garden from a socket on the house and runs out when the lawn starts further away. You can add an outdoor extension that is rated for the job, with the RCD still in the circuit. You should not splice a cut lead.
Are plastic blades a real saving?
On this set they are the BLACK+DECKER at about £49.99, with ten spares stated and a cut from 20 mm to 40 mm. The star line is 4.2 from 1,041 reviews. You pay less than the metal-blade Flymo rows, and you replace plastic blades sooner. Reviews mention wear and a black lead. If you want a metal blade named on the listing, you are on a different row, and you still do not get a box from this one.
What should I pay on amazon.co.uk?
Use the saved shelf as a band, then check the live page. Which?’s public guide talks about £75 and about £150. Those figures are a separate article, not these twelve prices. The comparison does not promise the cheapest price on the day you buy.
Which figure do I trust when the title and a bullet disagree?
You do not pick the larger number because it sounds stronger. On the EasiGlide 330 the title says 1,900 W and a bullet says 1,700 W, and the page does not resolve it. On the Turbo Lite 250 the saved Amazon file and Flymo’s own page disagree on weight. Keep both figures labelled as the page they came from, and read the plate on the machine before you quote one of them.
