Cordless mulching lawn mower: what to check before you buy

Updated: October 2026

You are on amazon.co.uk because a battery mower looks simpler than petrol, and the title says mulching. This buying guide shows whether a cordless mulching lawn mower listing actually mulches, whether the battery is inside the price, and which width you can lift. It is not a scorecard. The [cordless mulching lawn mower comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/cordless-mulching-lawn-mower) holds the eleven rows, the GBP prices and the review counts. Eight of these listings state a mulch path. Three do not. Peter F. checked amazon.co.uk listings and public UK sources in October 2026. What counts as a cordless mulching lawn mower

A mulching mower recuts clippings and drops them into the sward. The RHS describes that as returning fine clippings when you mow regularly. On this shelf the word covers three jobs, so the title is not enough. The cleanest statement is a named mulch plug, or a mulching blade, plus a bag you fit when you take the plug out. The WG737E, the Bosch Rotak 18V-32 kit, the Hyundai, the Ryobi and both Greenworks mowers are in that group. The Swift states a super-mulch blade and does not state a bag. The Einhell bullet calls side discharge its mulching function and says there is no bag, while a highlight mentions a 30 litre box. Do not average those lines. The WG779E, the Yard Force and the Litheli do not state mulch. A rear roller is a stripe, not a plug. Which path you want this week is on the mulching mower versus grass box page.

Kit, width and the area claim

Ten of the eleven listings include at least one battery. The Ryobi at about £160.20 includes neither a battery nor a charger. Its 250 m² line is for an 18 V ONE+ 5.0 Ah pack you supply. If you still have to buy that pack, the Hyundai at about £125.99 or the Einhell at about £149.95 can land lower. The Litheli title includes two 4.0 Ah batteries and does not name a charger. Width runs from 22 cm and 5.2 kg on the Swift, stated for up to 50 m², to 41 cm and 20.8 kg on the Greenworks G40LM41. If you cannot lift the published weight, the larger area claim is not a reason to buy it. The Einhell bullet says up to 200 m² and a highlight says up to 20 m². Quote both. Where a height cell disagrees with the millimetre bullet, do not publish one height as if the page had settled it.

Battery family and the noise label

Voltage on the title is not a shared socket. Worx 40 V means two 20 V PowerShare packs. Greenworks, Yard Force, Swift and Litheli 40 V packs are different families. Bosch, Einhell and Ryobi are separate 18 V systems, and the Hyundai is 20 V. Brushless is stated on five of these listings and not on the other six. None of the titles says the mower is self-propelled. For a cutting width up to 50 cm, SI 2001/1701 sets a Stage II sound-power limit of 96 dB re 1 pW. These captures do not print each label, and 96 dB is not a reading at your fence. SI 2025/1073, in force on 13 April 2026 in England, Wales and Scotland, names EN IEC 62841-4-3:2021 for electric pedestrian mowers. Northern Ireland sits outside that instrument. Battery mowers are WEEE. You do not bin the packs.

Which fork to take

If you want to mulch in dry weeks and bag the first cut, look for a stated plug and a bag in the same carton. Who each suits is on the best cordless mulching lawn mower page. If the lawn is a courtyard you will carry, the 22 cm Swift is the fork. If you want stripes and you are not buying for a plug, the Yard Force is the collector, with mulch unconfirmed. A plug left in the chute is why a box stays empty, and long or rain-wet grass is why a mulch deck clumps. If the motor has burnt, a trigger has failed, or a pack is hot or swollen, stop and use a dealer.

Common questions

What should you check before you compare brands?
Check the clipping path, then the kit, then a width you can lift. Confirm the battery and charger are in the box, because the Ryobi price is a body only. Only then compare battery families, which are not interchangeable. Brand comes after those forks.
When is a body-only mower cheaper?
The Ryobi at about £160.20 is cheaper only if you already own a suitable ONE+ pack and charger. The 250 m² line assumes a 5.0 Ah pack that is not in the box. Add that pack before you compare it with the Hyundai at about £125.99 or the Einhell at about £149.95.
How do you read a seller’s square-metre claim?
Read it as the seller’s claim, not as a measured lawn. The Greenworks 41 cm page ties 500 m² to two 2 Ah packs, and one review talks about 20 minutes on one pack. Where a listing prints two areas, as the Einhell does with 200 m² and 20 m², keep both.
Are 40 V packs interchangeable across brands?
No. Worx 40 V on these mowers is two 20 V PowerShare packs. Greenworks, Yard Force, Swift and Litheli 40 V packs are separate systems. Bosch, Einhell and Ryobi 18 V packs are three more families. Match the mower to tools you already charge.
What does the 96 dB figure mean, and where does the battery go at the end?
For cutting widths up to 50 cm, the sound-power limit is 96 dB. That is a class limit for marking, not a measured reading for any ASIN here. When a pack will no longer charge, take it to a recycling point. Do not put it in the household bin.
