Bosch lawnmower buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are standing in a UK garden with a tape measure and a socket that may not reach the grass, choosing a first Bosch electric rotary. This Bosch lawnmower buying guide puts the decisions in order: the socket, the area, then what is actually in the carton on amazon.co.uk. The [Bosch electric lawnmower comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/bosch-electric-lawnmower) holds the eight-row table. This page does not crown a model. It tells you which printed figure to trust before you look at stars. Peter F. updated it in October 2026 from those listings and public UK sources, with no test lawn. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the socket and the lawn

Bosch’s UK buyer’s guide asks one question before watts or width: can you reach the lawn from a socket without a fight? If the answer is yes, a corded mower in this set does not run out of battery. If the socket is at the front door and the grass is at the back, Bosch points you at a cordless mower. That is a layout test, not a star ranking. Corded listings run from the EasyRotak 32-225 at a saved £80.99 to the AdvancedRotak 40-650 at £209.94. Cordless listings are the ROTAK18V-32 kit at £181, the ROTAK18V2-38 at £269.99, and bare bodies at £132.60 and £154.97. UK mains are 230 V. A corded machine still needs a BS 1363 plug and, outdoors, an RCD and a fully unwound extension. A 12 × 10 m lawn, about 120 m², still follows the socket, not the area.

Match the cut to the area

Printed widths are 32, 34, 38, and 40 cm. Bosch’s UK chart, a catalogue band and not a timed test of these listings, puts about 150 m² on a 32 cm 18 V mower, about 200 m² on 34 cm, and about 500 m² on the 38 cm 2×18 V format. About 600 m² appears only on larger models that are not here. A wider deck means fewer passes and a clumsier gate. A terrace around 120–200 m² is the small garden page. Both EasyRotak models are 32 cm, and each highlight states 1,200 W. The 34-410 and the bare ROTAK18V-34 are 34 cm. The twin-battery ROTAK18V2-38 is 38 cm. The AdvancedRotak title states 40 cm and 1,700 W. Taking about one third off the grass height is Bosch’s advice, not a British Standard.

Read the carton, not only the price

A saved price under £120 is a corded 32 or 34 cm machine: £80.99, £96.87, or £108.59. Those cartons are mowers on a plug. The £181 ROTAK18V-32 includes one 18 V 4.0 Ah pack and an AL 18V-44 charger, plus a mulch plug. The £269.99 ROTAK18V2-38 includes two 18 V 4.0 Ah packs and an AL 2X18V-88 charger. The £132.60 and £154.97 listings include neither a battery nor a charger, so the lower figure is a body price. Bosch UK asks for at least 4.0 Ah. That is a manufacturer line, not a runtime in minutes.

Figures to trust and figures to drop

Trust the title and the highlight when they agree: 32 cm and 1,200 W on the EasyRotak pair, 34 cm and 230 V on the 34-410, 1,700 W and 40 cm on the AdvancedRotak, and the battery counts on the two kits. Trust a weight that looks like a mower: 8 kg on the 32-225, 11.8 kg on the 32-220, 12.5 kg and 13 kg on the bare bodies, 14.3 kg on the 18V-32 kit, and 23.5 kg on the twin-battery mower. Drop 1.26 kg on the UniversalRotak and 1 kg plus 1 × 1 × 1 cm on the AdvancedRotak. Where a height cell disagrees with itself, do not pick the convenient number.

Common questions

What should I decide before I look at stars?
Decide whether a socket reaches the lawn, then the cutting width, then whether a battery is in the carton. Stars on amazon.co.uk are the check, not the start. A 4.5 from 54 reviews can look stronger than 4.2 from 678, and it is a smaller sample. The UniversalRotak 34-410 carries that 678-review line at a saved £96.87. Use it after you know you can live with a lead and with a grass box reviewers call flimsy.
Is 32 cm enough for a small UK lawn?
For a lawn Bosch’s chart would call about 150 m², a 32 cm deck is the band they attach to the ROTAK18V-32. One UK reviewer of the EasyRotak 32-220 described a 12 × 10 m plot, about 120 m² if both numbers are metres. A 32 cm cut means more passes than 40 cm, and it is easier through a narrow side gate. It is the wrong width if your lawn is the 500 m² band Bosch puts on the 38 cm twin-battery format.
What does Bosch mean by at least 4.0 Ah?
On the Bosch DIY UK lawn-mower page, cordless models are described in volts and amp-hours, and the request is at least 4.0 Ah. The £181 kit includes one 18 V 4.0 Ah pack and an AL 18V-44 charger. The £269.99 kit includes two 4.0 Ah packs. A bare body at £132.60 or £154.97 includes none. One reviewer on the bare 34 cm model found 2.5 Ah too small for their lawn. The listing does not print a runtime in minutes.
Why is a bare mower cheaper?
The £132.60 ROTAK18V-32 and the £154.97 ROTAK18V-34 leave out the battery and the charger. The same 32 cm deck with a 4.0 Ah pack and an AL 18V-44 charger is the £181 kit. The lower price is real only if you already own a compatible Bosch 18 V garden pack and a charger. A pro drill battery is not confirmed as a fit by these listings, and one UK reviewer says the green garden slide is a different battery.
Which listing figures are safe to ignore?
Ignore 1.26 kg on the UniversalRotak 34-410 and 1 kg plus 1 × 1 × 1 cm on the AdvancedRotak 40-650. Ignore a height cell that says 34 centimetres when reviewers describe a cut near 25 mm. Watts are not printed on the 34-410, so do not invent them from another Rotak. Lead length is not in the spec tables. One reviewer’s 10 m remark on the AdvancedRotak stays that one review.
