Best point of use water heater

Updated: 17.10.2026

A search for the best point of use water heater throws a £55.99 handwash and a £412.86 12 kW heater into the same row. One winner would be false, because a cloakroom basin, a stored sink and a high-power instant tap are three different fits. Litres and kilowatts stay on the buying guide. Prices, stars and review counts are the amazon.co.uk listings of 15 October 2026, also on the [point-of-use water heater comparison](/hub/hot-water/point-of-use-water-heater). Best fit for a single hand basin

For one hand basin on cold mains, the fit in this set is the Triton T30i, model SPT303I. It is a 3 kW instantaneous handwash, listed at about £55.99. The amazon.co.uk file is 4.4 from 842 reviews, the largest here. UK reviewers describe cloakrooms, workshops and sheds. Reviewers who wanted kitchen-hot water call it lukewarm. The listing’s 8 litres per minute is not hot water at that flow: a 3 kW element adds only a few degrees there, which is a calculation, not a Triton test. Triton’s sheet sells it as a handwash, not a shower. The comparison marks it best value because it is the lowest price among listings that still score 80 or above. The room split is on the handwash or kitchen page.

Best fit for a stored sink

The COMFEE' 10 litre undersink heater is 2 kW at 220 V, energy class A, at about £79.99. It averages 4.7 from 21 UK ratings, the highest average in the set, which is why the comparison puts the top pick on this store. One buyer removed a shelf because the case is 30 cm deep. One fitted unit failed. Twenty-one ratings are not 842. The Ariston Andris R is the larger store: 3 kW at 230 V, about £133.19, 4.4 from 30 ratings. One UK reviewer reported rust and black particles after about three months. Choose the COMFEE' when 10 litres match the bowl. Choose the Andris for the extra 5 litres. Skip the FVSTR: the specification says 120 V and 1,500 W.

Best fit when you need real flow on demand

When the tap has to keep coming, the only high-power listing here is the Stiebel Eltron DCE-X 10/12 Premium, model 238159. The page states 220/240 V, up to 12 kW, 5 litres per minute and 55°C. The average is 4.4 from 116 reviews. UK reviewers praise a set temperature at a kitchen sink or basin once the supply is done properly. The shelf price was about £412.86, and the circuit is not included. Skip it if you wanted a plug-in heater. Reviewers say it cannot go on a socket, and several describe heavy cable and a 50 A or 60 A breaker on their own installs. Those reports are not a design for your consumer unit. Skip it for a guaranteed shower: the title mentions showers, and the reviews split. Stiebel’s UK FAQ says this single-phase class is not for filling a bath. The storage-or-instant trade-off is on the undersink or instant page.

What not to call a top pick

The £45 instant listings are not a best-value route. The Axelrivet is about £44.99 and averages 3.1 from five UK reviews. Two are briefly positive. The others include a unit that died after about 10 seconds, heat only at a very low flow, and a measured draw over 4,200 W against a 3,000 W claim. The Builrand, also about £44.99, averages 2.7 from eight ratings. Four of five written reviews say it barely heats or leaks. The Mulcort, both Normodic 6,000 W pages and the laloohome heater had no customer-review line. The laloohome title says 6,000 W and the technical details say 5,500 W. A 6 kW heater is about 26 A at 230 V, not a 13 A plug. If litres and kilowatts are still open, use the buying guide.

Common questions

Which heater is the best fit for a cloakroom?
The Triton T30i is the cloakroom fit in this set: 3 kW, instantaneous, about £55.99, and 4.4 from 842 reviews that mention basins on cold mains. It is the best value because of that price and that review file. It is a poor fit for a bowl of washing-up water.
Which small tank is worth buying for a sink?
The COMFEE' 10 litre at about £79.99 is the stronger value of the two coherent UK stores, with 4.7 from 21 ratings. The Ariston Andris R 15 litre at about £133.19 suits a slightly larger draw, with one rust report to weigh. The FVSTR’s 120 V specification keeps it off this shortlist.
Is the Stiebel worth £400?
It can be, if you need on-demand heat at a proper flow and an electrician can supply 10/12 kW. The heater itself was about £412.86. It is poor value if the cable and the breaker were the cost you had not budgeted, or if you needed a shower the reviews do not agree on.
Should I buy a £45 instant heater?
Not from the written reviews in this set. The Axelrivet and the Builrand, both about £44.99, include dead, lukewarm or leaking reports. Listings with no reviews, including the 6 kW Normodic pages, do not become a bargain because the shelf price is low. If the job is a hand basin, the Triton is the listing with a real review file near that price.
Which listing has the most reviews?
The Triton T30i has 842 amazon.co.uk reviews at 4.4. The Stiebel has 116 at 4.4. The COMFEE' has the highest average, 4.7, from only 21 ratings. A higher star line on a small file is not the same evidence as a 4.4 held across hundreds of reviews, which is why the top pick and the best value are not the same ASIN.
Can the best handwash run a shower?
No. The Triton sheet sells a handwash. A 3 kW element cannot hold a shower temperature at a shower flow. A shower head in a Mulcort bullet, on a 3,000 W listing with no reviews, is not a substitute. The only high-power unit here is the Stiebel, and some of its reviewers say the shower flow is poor.
What should I skip if I only have a 13 A socket?
Skip the Stiebel and every 6 kW listing. They need a dedicated circuit. A 3 kW handwash is a shorter duty than a long immersion, and the IET has still warned that a long 3 kW immersion is a poor match for a BS 1363 plug. If a socket is all you have, stay with the Triton or a small store that states a UK voltage.
