Cat screen door: containment, not a pet-friendly seam

Updated: October 2026

The solid door is open for air, and the cat has already decided the garden is more interesting than the kitchen. A cat screen door, in the sense that matters, is a barrier that keeps the animal on one side. It is not a magnetic curtain with "pet friendly" on the title. Those curtains are built so the cat walks through. The zip screens in this amazon.co.uk set are the products sold as containment, and the reviews include cats that got out anyway. A magnetic curtain will not hold a cat

Homefair Blinds states that magnetic door screens are not reliable pet barriers. The centre seam is a door. Listings that say kid and pet friendly, including the YRH, the RnCop, and the SMALUCK curtains, mean the animal can pass. A dog that already uses the patio is the intended traffic. An indoor cat is the opposite job. A dearer curtain does not change the seam. The black SMALUCK at about £9.99 and the white one at about £16.99 are still walk-through mesh. Cascovll's stay-open buckles make the gap larger, which helps with a tray and fails as a lock. The decision order is on the fly screen door buying guide. The products below are the containment screens in this set.

What the cat screens claim

MYPIN, B09TW1D8S6, is about £20.99 with 4.3 from 998 reviews, the largest file among these barriers. The title is 31.5 × 82 inches. A fit bullet says a 30 × 80 inch door and that the frame is not included. Closure is a U-shaped zip plus magnets, on stickers, with pins mentioned in reviews. At 299 g it is vinyl mesh. The claim is that you unzip to pass and the cat does not get a magnetic seam. Earrck sells two sizes at about £21.99. B0DZHMG8J9 is 91 × 214 cm. B0DZHJLQVB is 81 × 204 cm. Both show 4.3 from 161 and the same review text, so that is one pool, not 322 people. Each box lists a screen, hook tape, 15 drawing pins, and a manual. The bullets say measure including the frame, about 1 cm wider and 4 cm higher. One material line says alloy steel and the other says vinyl. Both bullets describe vinyl-coated steel wire. A dog question on the smaller listing is not a large-dog test in these reviews. Hbzunt is the cheap pair, and the pages disagree with themselves. The black screen, B0GXD15C63, is about £10.99, 90 × 210 cm, 3.8 from 15 reviews. The title says a zipper. The specification says magnetic. The white screen, B0HF4VYZ91, is about £11.99 and has no review line. Both say nano mesh without a hole size. Until the live listing picks one closure, you do not know which barrier is in the packet.

Where the reviews say they failed

The MYPIN file includes six-month-old cats that broke the zip and got through, and a review that put the life at about three months. A 4.3 from 998 means many buyers were satisfied. It does not mean kittens cannot pass. The shared Earrck reviews include a kitten room, and one small cat that split the mesh away from the edging. A zip that still runs is no help if there is a hole beside it. The black Hbzunt file includes a kitten that burst the mesh beside the zip, and another note that the zip seemed decent. Nine blocks against a 15-review headline are not a settled verdict. The white Hbzunt has no review text. Do not copy the black 3.8 onto it. A gap at the floor is the same class of hole. Another Earrck listing, which we are not adding to the table, suggests gluing the bottom so a cat cannot dig under. These listings do not all say that. If a paw fits under the mesh, assume the cat will try. Pins on uPVC are still wrong. These reviews do not support a scratch-proof claim.

Sizes that do not match each other

30 × 80 inches is about 76 × 203 cm. MYPIN's title, 31.5 × 82 inches, is a larger screen than the fits 30 × 80 line, and the frame is not in the box. Earrck's 81 × 204 cm screen is the nearer of the two centimetre sizes. The 91 × 214 cm screen is the wider one. A shared review says an 80 cm opening received a screen that measured 81 cm, so the tape sat on a curve. Measure, then follow that maker's allowance. Inside the frame and including the frame, plus a centimetre, are not the same instruction. If a Hbzunt packet arrives as a magnetic walk-through, you have bought the product this page told you to avoid. If it is a zip, you still have 15 reviews or none, against MYPIN's 998. Prefer MYPIN for review depth if you accept the zip failures. Prefer an Earrck size when the centimetres match, knowing the 161 reviews are shared and that mesh has left the edging in that pool. The Windhager Rhino is not the fallback cat lock. These reviews talk about kittens and small cats. A dog that must pass needs a walk-through curtain. A dog you must hold back is not demonstrated here. We did not test these screens with a cat. The amazon.co.uk listings were read on 20 October 2026.

Common questions

Will a magnetic fly screen stop my cat escaping?
No. The seam is there so the cat, and you, can walk through. Homefair Blinds says magnetic door screens are not reliable pet barriers. Pet friendly on the YRH, RnCop, and SMALUCK listings means passage. Use a zip screen if the job is containment, and read the escape reviews before you trust it.
Which screens in this set are sold as containment?
MYPIN at about £20.99, the two Earrck sizes at about £21.99, and the two Hbzunt screens at about £10.99 and about £11.99. MYPIN has 4.3 from 998 reviews. The Earrck pair shares one pool of 4.3 from 161. The white Hbzunt has no review line in the file. Hbzunt's pages also disagree on zip versus magnetic.
Do the zips hold up in the reviews?
Not always. MYPIN reviews include young cats that broke the zip, and one comment of about three months' life. An Earrck review describes mesh split from the edging. A black Hbzunt review says a kitten burst the mesh beside the zip. Satisfied buyers are in the same files. The average does not cancel the escapes.
How do I measure for the Earrck versus the MYPIN?
MYPIN's fit line is a 30 × 80 inch door, frame not included, while the title says 31.5 × 82 inches. Earrck says measure including the frame and allow about 1 cm in width and 4 cm in height, on screens of 81 × 204 cm or 91 × 214 cm. Tape your opening. A screen that is 1 cm too wide can put the tape on a curve, which one shared Earrck review describes.
What about the gap at the floor?
A gap under the mesh is an exit, the same as a split beside the zip. If a paw fits, assume the cat will try. These listings do not all tell you to glue the bottom. Check the floor edge after you hang the screen, and do not pin uPVC to close that gap.
Is the white Hbzunt reviewed?
Not in this file. There is no customer-review line and no review text. The black Hbzunt is 3.8 from 15, with a kitten and a mesh failure in that small set. Do not copy the black rating onto the white ASIN, and do not treat either as a large UK sample.
What if the title says zip and the spec says magnetic?
That is the Hbzunt conflict. The black title says a zipper, the specification says magnetic, and a bullet mentions both. The white file does the same kind of split and adds an empty review line. If you cannot tell which product will arrive, choose MYPIN or Earrck, where the zip is the stated closure and the failures are at least described.
