Window fly screen

Updated: October 2026

The bedroom window is open for the night, the moths are on the glass, and the frame is rented uPVC you are not allowed to drill. A window fly screen in this set is either a sheet you peel back or a framed panel you lift off. It is not a magnetic door curtain, and it is not the device that stops a sash opening too far. The five window listings in our [Fly screen comparison](/hub/hedges-and-privacy-screens/fly-screen) are the tesa sheet, the MOEGFY pack, and the MiLeJu, BITOYO and NeatiEase kits, at amazon.co.uk prices saved on 20 October 2026. Peel-back sheet or framed kit

Choose the sheet when you will cut mesh to a window and peel an edge to reach the handle. The tesa Insect Stop STANDARD, B0001M0H7I, is £2.56 for one 100 x 100 cm hook-and-loop sheet, with 4.2 from 4,396 ratings. Reviewers joined pieces when the frame was larger than the sheet. The MOEGFY 3-pack, B0GRV97S67, is £11.04 for nets stated at 130 x 150 cm, with 4.1 from 4,638 ratings. Choose a framed kit when you want a panel you lift off, and you will pay about £23 to £27 for that. MiLeJu, B0F1T4YDV2, is £22.93, up to 120 x 130 cm, with 4.2 from 410 ratings. BITOYO, B0FFN1BDXW, is £23.99, up to 130 x 150 cm, with 3.7 from 17 ratings and a 15 mm frame note. NeatiEase, B089112KF8, is £26.99, up to 100 x 130 cm, with 4.3 from 4,006 ratings.

Size, handles and inward opening

A 100 x 100 cm tesa sheet is enough for a small bedroom casement and not enough for a wide kitchen window. Reviewers who ran out of sheet joined pieces. MOEGFY's 130 x 150 cm statement covers more of those windows, as a maximum you cut down. Measure the frame in three places and keep the smallest. The framed maxima are the same kind of ceiling: NeatiEase stops at 100 x 130 cm, MiLeJu at 120 x 130 cm, BITOYO at 130 x 150 cm. Leave slack over a handle. An inward-opening sash is the awkward case in the MiLeJu reviews. BITOYO's 15 mm frame note matters before you order.

Strip, tape and the first summer

Framed kits fail in reviews when the magnetic strip runs out. MiLeJu buyers report a short strip even after careful measuring. NeatiEase buyers report not enough magnetic or plastic strip, and the adhesive strip is not white, so it shows on a white frame when the net is off. Lay the strip around the frame before you trim the mesh to the last edge. Sheets fail when the tape lets go. tesa reviewers name painted windows and a moving sash. MOEGFY reviewers name heat and mesh that rips if it is stretched. Renters should assume a mark is possible.

Restrictors, cats, and mesh you cannot see

A window fly screen keeps insects out of an opening you have already made safe. It does not make the opening safe. Leeds City Council describes window restrictors as limiting the opening to about 10 cm. If the upstairs restrictor is missing or seized, that is a repair, not a mesh order. A NeatiEase reviewer says a cat took the finished screen down in one swipe, and that it is a fly screen, not a pet screen. Fitting steps are on the how to fit a fly screen page. None of the five prints an 18 x 16 or a 30 x 20 hole count. Streme's UK guide treats 18 x 16 as standard insect mesh and 30 x 20 as genuine midge mesh, and it says 20 x 20 does not stop midges. Door curtains and magnet counts belong on the magnetic fly screen door page.

Common questions

Is a £2.56 sheet enough for a bedroom window?
It is enough when the frame sits inside 100 x 100 cm. That is the tesa Insect Stop STANDARD, with 4.2 from 4,396 ratings. Reviewers joined pieces when the window was larger, and the tape is reported to fail on paint and on a moving sash. A wider bedroom window is a MOEGFY sheet, stated at 130 x 150 cm.
When is a framed kit worth about £23 to £27?
When you want a lift-off panel rather than a peel-back sheet, and the window is inside the kit's maximum. MiLeJu is up to 120 x 130 cm at £22.93. BITOYO is up to 130 x 150 cm at £23.99 but only 3.7 from 17 ratings. NeatiEase is up to 100 x 130 cm at £26.99 with 4.3 from 4,006 ratings. The extra money is the frame.
Can I cut the sheet and the framed mesh?
Yes, smaller than the stated size. tesa and MOEGFY say cut to size. The framed kits say trim the mesh under the maximum. Leave slack for a handle. Do not cut a magnetic door curtain with the same scissors. On BITOYO, one reviewer could not close the window after cutting because the clips sat proud, and cut mesh is a poor return.
Will the magnetic strip be long enough?
Often it is not, in the reviews. MiLeJu and NeatiEase buyers report strip that ran short for the window they measured. Offer the strip around the frame before you cut the mesh. A short strip is a fitting problem, not proof the window was the wrong type.
Will adhesive mark a rented uPVC frame?
It might. Listings claim a no-drill fix on a clean, dry frame. tesa's bullets say the tape can come off without residue, and reviewers still report it letting go on paint and wood. MOEGFY reviews include paint pull. Assume a landlord will see a mark.
Is the screen a window restrictor or a cat barrier?
Neither. A restrictor limits the opening to about 10 cm, which is how Leeds City Council describes it. Mesh can pull away. Reviewers report a cat tearing the tesa sheet, ripping MOEGFY mesh, and pulling a NeatiEase panel down. Fit a working restrictor upstairs. Use the screen only to keep insects out of an opening that is already limited.
