Magnetic fly screen door

Updated: October 2026

The back door is propped for the cooking, the dog is waiting on the step, and the flies are already in the kitchen. A magnetic fly screen door is a walk-through curtain with a centre seam, not a sheet you stick over a casement and not a rigid gate. This page stays with the five curtains in our [Fly screen comparison](/hub/hedges-and-privacy-screens/fly-screen): YRH, EGNBU, SMALUCK, Flux Phenom and TheFitLife, at the amazon.co.uk prices saved on 20 October 2026. Products Compared read those listings and the UK review lines. We did not test the mesh in a lab. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Five curtains and the width they state

Measure the frame, not the glass, in three places, and keep the smallest width and height. An 80 cm curtain on a 90 cm opening leaves a gap the magnets cannot close. The YRH, B09B73GVFB, is £7.99 for a fixed 80 x 200 cm black nylon curtain, with 4.5 from 9,739 ratings. In this comparison it is the best value when that width already covers the door. The Flux Phenom, B0F2JJR5KX, is also an 80 cm class, at £18.95 for frames up to 80 x 200 cm, with 52 magnets and 1 mm holes stated, and 4.5 from 75,289 ratings on the saved page. It is the top pick here when the door is inside 80 x 200 cm and you want that magnet count. EGNBU, B08TZVKZQ5, is £8.99 for frames up to 90 x 210 cm, with 26 magnets stated and 4.3 from 4,317 ratings. SMALUCK, B0C6K6H9N7, is £9.99 for a stated actual size of 90 x 210 cm, with 4.5 from 2,123 ratings. TheFitLife, B01IBJWKYA, is £20.99 for doors up to 91 x 208 cm, with 26 magnets stated and 4.5 from 2,711 ratings.

Magnets, weight and wind

The seam is a strip of magnets, not a zip. YRH's bullets describe a magnetic strip that opens and shuts as you walk through. One buyer still had to click it together by hand. EGNBU and TheFitLife state 26 magnets. One TheFitLife reviewer returned a curtain that did not close properly. Flux Phenom is the heaviest curtain here at 790 g. SMALUCK claims a counterweight at the hem, and one reviewer said it held in wind for about a month. EGNBU at 480 g is the lightest, and one reviewer found it too heavy for the supplied tape to keep up. Flyscreen Queen suggests a top rod on exposed external doors. None of these five boxes lists a rod.

Pets, children, and the words on the bullet

Pet friendly and kid friendly on these listings mean a person or an animal can push the seam and the magnets are meant to close. YRH reviews describe dogs and children passing. EGNBU, SMALUCK and Flux Phenom reviews describe dogs walking through. That is walk-through evidence. It is not a safety test. A fly screen does not limit how far a door or a window opens. If the opening is an upstairs window, the device that limits the sash is a restrictor, which Leeds City Council describes as about 10 cm. The window fly screen page keeps that limit next to the bedroom nets. Do not read the bullet as a gate that will stop a fall.

Trim, pins and heat

Do not cut these curtains narrower. Flyscreen Queen's fitting instructions say not to trim a lightweight magnetic door screen, because the magnets and the weighted hem sit in the mesh. A SMALUCK reviewer says that 90 x 210 cm curtain cannot be trimmed to width. The clean-and-press order is the how to fit a fly screen page, and the opening choice is the fly screen buying guide. Pins and thumbtacks are in the EGNBU bullets and in the SMALUCK, Flux Phenom and TheFitLife boxes. On uPVC, Flux Phenom reviewers used the hook-and-loop and left the pins unused. EGNBU reviewers say the tape lifts when it gets hot. SMALUCK reviewers found glue that did not come off.

Common questions

Which curtain fits an 80 cm door, and which needs more width?
YRH is a fixed 80 x 200 cm curtain at £7.99. Flux Phenom is for frames up to 80 x 200 cm at £18.95. EGNBU is up to 90 x 210 cm at £8.99. SMALUCK is a fixed 90 x 210 cm at £9.99. TheFitLife is for doors up to 91 x 208 cm at £20.99. If your smallest width is already over 80 cm, leave the two 80 cm curtains.
What does 26 magnets versus 52 magnets change?
EGNBU and TheFitLife state 26 magnets. Flux Phenom states 52. YRH and SMALUCK do not state a count. More magnets are there to close the seam, including near the top and the hem. They do not turn a 1 mm bullet into a 30 x 20 midge weave, and one TheFitLife reviewer still returned a curtain that did not close.
Can I cut a SMALUCK curtain down?
No. A reviewer says the 90 x 210 cm SMALUCK curtain cannot be trimmed to width. The same warning applies to lightweight magnetic door screens generally, because the magnets and the weighted hem are sewn into the mesh. If the door is narrower than the curtain you can overlap the frame, but you cannot cut the seam out to invent a new width.
Will my dog get through, and will the seam shut?
Reviewers describe dogs walking through the YRH, EGNBU, SMALUCK and Flux Phenom curtains, with the seam closing afterwards for many of them. One YRH buyer still had to click the magnets by hand, and one TheFitLife curtain was returned because it did not close. Teach the animal the middle of the seam. The mesh is not a gate.
What happens to the tape in a hot spell?
EGNBU reviewers say the hook tape fails when it gets hot, and one curtain was too heavy to stay up. YRH reviewers include a report of Velcro holding on uPVC in late June, so heat is not a failure on every brand. Clean, dry frames do better than painted or dusty ones. None of these listings promise the adhesive will last a summer.
