Condensate pump buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

Your boiler, wall-mounted air conditioner or dehumidifier is dripping into a tray, and the only drain sits higher than the outlet. This condensate pump buying guide walks through duty, lift, tank size, wiring and bullets that contradict themselves across the twelve pumps on the [condensate pump comparison](/hub/heating/condensate-pump). Prices in this set run from about £26 to £85. Peter F. compared those amazon.co.uk listings with public UK guidance. There was no lab test. When you do not buy a pump

UK installer guidance still treats gravity as the first choice. If condensate can fall through a 22 mm pipe to an internal foul stack or another approved indoor termination, you do not need a pump to help the fall. A pump enters when the route must rise, when the appliance sits below the drain, or when the manufacturer’s instructions name a pump because internal gravity is impractical. Approved Document H in England and HHIC guidance prefer an indoor termination before a long external pipe. Air-conditioning condensate and boiler condensate are not the same liquid. HHIC describes boiler condensate as warm and acidic, on the order of a couple of litres an hour at roughly 30–40°C, with pH that can sit at 6.5 or lower. A mini sold for a 7 kW split is not rated for that chemistry just because a compatible-devices line says boiler. If the combi cannot reach a stack, read the boiler condensate pump page before you treat any row as permission.

Three kinds of pump

Marketplace listings cluster into three shapes. Mini pumps move modest flow into a tiny reservoir and suit wall splits, portable air conditioners, dehumidifiers and ice makers when lift stays within the printed head. In this set, 24 L/h minis dominate around £26–£40, with headline lifts of 10 m and tanks as small as 0.07 L. Tank pumps carry a larger float chamber, often 0.5 L to 1.8 L, and higher peak flow at zero head. Aspen’s FP3349 prints 550 L/h at zero head with a 1.7 L tank. BAOSHISHAN’s QS-360L prints 360 L/h with 1.8 L. Boiler-rated hardware is a third class: trade catalogues quote pH limits, higher flow and safety contacts meant to interrupt the boiler live. Grundfos Conlift1-LS carries the name and 134 reviews, yet the amazon.co.uk cells for flow, head and pH are blank. AirTech’s bullets name condensing boilers and do not print a pH. Treat boiler on a mini bullet as a keyword, not an approval, until a Gas Safe engineer matches a named model to the appliance.

Five checks before you order

Name the liquid and the appliance first. Measure vertical lift from the outlet to the highest point of the discharge, then plan the fall into the drain. Head on the listing is lift, not horizontal pipe length. A ten-metre horizontal run with a two-metre rise still needs a pump that can hold those two metres at useful flow. Match tank volume and flow at that head. A bullet that shouts 550 L/h at zero head may only promise 10 L/h at 5 m on the same page. Several UK reviews report bare flex with no BS 1363 plug and no fuse in the box. Aspen and Ejoyous are examples. Fitting a plug is not wiring a safety interrupt. The how to fit a condensate pump page marks where household wiring stops. A 5.0 from two reviews is not stronger evidence than 4.4 from 90.

Bullets that disagree with themselves

Contradictions sit on the page. YUKERMARB’s 24 L/h listing prints 24 litres per hour and up to 80 gallons per hour in the same bullet. BAOSHISHAN’s QS-24B highlights 600 ml while a technical bullet says 60 ml. Ejoyous prints a 10 m recommended head while the lifting-height cell shows 1E+1 metres. Denash and the YUKERMARB 100 L/h units cap lift at 2 m while minis beside them claim 10 m. Horsepower fields of 15 kW, 30 kW or 7 kW refer to air-conditioning size, not motor power. When a bullet conflicts with itself, defer the purchase until the manual resolves it, or choose a listing whose flow, head, tank and switch current all appear once. Named picks are on the best condensate pump page.

Common questions

Do I need a pump if the pipe can fall to a stack?
Not if a compliant gravity route to an internal drain exists and your manufacturer agrees. A pump is for rises and other cases where gravity cannot reach an approved termination.
What is the difference between a 24 L/h mini and a 550 L/h tank?
Volume and duty. Minis store almost nothing and suit small HVAC drains. Tank pumps hold more condensate per cycle and print higher peak flow for heavier or shared drains. Boiler work still needs chemistry and safety contacts, not just litres per hour.
Why does one bullet say 24 litres per hour and 80 gallons per hour?
It is a listing error or a copy-paste clash. Treat the row as unresolved until the manual or the pump label gives a single curve.
Can the same pump serve a boiler and an air conditioner?
Only if the boiler manufacturer names that exact model and the pump spec prints pH and safety contacts for gas work. Shared naming on amazon.co.uk is not approval.
How much should a UK listing cost in this set?
The observed band in this batch runs from about £26 at the mini end through £46–£60 for mid tank units to about £71–£85 for Aspen and Grundfos name listings. Price alone does not fix contradictory bullets.
Is a two-review score enough?
It is a signal, not proof. Prefer counts in double digits when the job is critical, and read the negative texts even when the average stays high.
