Sordin ear defenders: how to match the cup to the job

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are looking at Sordin ear defenders on amazon.co.uk because a clay ground, a rifle range or a noisy job needs a cup that lets you hear a call and still cuts a loud sound. The six listings in the [Sordin ear defenders comparison](/hub/hearing-protection/sordin-ear-defenders) run from £306.90 to £349.00. Two print a decibel figure, two print EN 352 and no number, and two print neither. Confirm the model, read the rating for that headband and cushion, then the seal and the band. Stars come last. Peter F. checked these listings on 21 October 2026. There was no lab test. A purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are choosing

The kept set is three Supreme X2 listings and three Supreme Pro-X listings. B0GQ4W68J6 is the gel leather headband at £349.00, B0G5Z4LP91 is the neckband at £322.49, and B0G5YXTNJZ is the leather-strap X2 at the same price. B0FTVN3D9B is the LED gel cup at £318.94, B07NJ6LJC7 is the green gel cup with a camouflage band at £332.00, and B0BHHFHB1S is the Pro-X Slim foam cup at £306.90. A different Slim ASIN is not in this six. These are level-dependent muffs. They restore quieter sound and restrict louder sound: BS EN 352-4 on EN 352-1 or EN 352-3, not active noise reduction under EN 352-5.

Read the rating on that configuration

Only two titles print a decibel figure. The £349.00 X2 gel headband says SNR 29 and NRR 23. The £332.00 green Pro-X says SNR 25 dB and NRR 25 dB. The LED and the Slim say EN 352 and give no SNR. The neckband X2 and the leather-strap X2 print neither. Sordin’s pages do not share one number: SNR 29 on the X2 page, SNR 28 on a textile-headband Pro-X page, SNR 27 on the LED and Slim pages, and SNR 24 on a neckband Pro-X page. Do not borrow SNR 29, and do not copy the American NRR into a British table. HSE uses SNR as a task-level guide, not for daily exposure and not for sites such as press shops and boiler houses. The bands are SNR 20 or less at 85–90 dB, 20–30 at 90–95 dB, 25–35 at 95–100 dB, and 30 or more at 100–105 dB. Aim below 85 dB at the ear, and avoid below 70 dB.

Cushion, band, then the extras

Sordin associates gel with a softer seal around glasses. The £349.00 X2, the LED and the green Pro-X say gel. The Slim says foam. Spectacles, hair, earrings and a woolly hat can still break a seal. A headband sits over the crown. A neckband leaves it free, which is why the £322.49 X2 exists with no SNR on the title. The Slim is the wider low band for a larger head. A UK review on 9 December 2025 found the green Pro-X tight at full stretch and was pointed to the Slim. That Slim title still has no SNR. Extras do not fill a missing SNR. The X2 that prints SNR 29 includes one AA. Sordin claims up to 60 hours, and a later snapshot of that ASIN said about 70. The lamp is only on the LED. Bluetooth is a different X2.

A short decision

If the amazon title must show a decibel figure, you have two pages: the £349.00 X2 gel at SNR 29, or the £332.00 green Pro-X at SNR 25. If a standard band is already tight, take the Slim and accept foam with no SNR. If a hat needs the crown clear, the neckband is the shape and the rating is in the leaflet. If you want a lamp and can live without a number on the page, the LED has the long review file. Plugs, the impulse test and warranty split on X2 versus Pro-X. Who should open the LED first is on best Sordin ear defenders.

Common questions

Is every Sordin in this set SNR 29?
No. SNR 29 is on the £349.00 X2 gel title and on Sordin’s X2 page. The green Pro-X prints SNR 25. The LED and Slim say EN 352 and print no decibel figure. The neckband and leather-strap X2 titles print neither. Other Pro-X pages state SNR 28, 27 or 24. Copying 29 onto the rest would describe a cup you have not bought.
Gel or foam if you wear glasses?
Gel is the ring Sordin associates with a softer seal around glasses. The X2 gel, LED and green titles say gel. The Slim says foam. Spectacles can still lift a cushion, so run a finger around the seal with your usual frames on.
Headband, neckband or the Slim band?
A leather headband crosses the crown. A neckband leaves that space for a cap or helmet. The Slim is the wider low band for a larger head. Pick the band you can wear for the whole session. A band you loosen until the cups slip is a broken seal.
Does Active Noise Cancellation on the green listing mean EN 352-5?
No. The details field on the green Pro-X says Active Noise Cancellation, and that wording is Amazon’s label. Level-dependent muffs in this set are the EN 352-4 kind of cup: they pass quieter sound and limit louder sound. EN 352-5 is a different standard. Do not treat the details line as proof the green cup was checked against Sordin’s description of noise cancellation.
Which listing has a printed EN line but no decibel number?
The Pro-X LED at £318.94 and the Pro-X Slim at £306.90. Both say EN 352 and do not print an SNR. That names a standard. It does not place the cup on the HSE task table. You need the leaflet or the cup marking for that.
When is a weekend shoot not an employer noise assessment?
When you are not the employer and nobody is at work. The 80, 85 and 87 dB duties come from the Control of Noise at Work Regulations in Great Britain, and the Northern Ireland rules mirror them. A private clay day is still loud. It is not automatically that assessment. A club that employs staff can be inside the duty.
