Wera torque wrench for wheel nuts

Updated: October 2026

You have the car on the driveway and a forum post that says just do them to 110. A Wera torque wrench for wheel nuts only works if the figure in that vehicle’s handbook sits inside a 1/2 inch Click-Torque window on this shelf, and if you stop at the first click. There is no single UK wheel-nut torque. The A-series wrenches in the [Wera torque wrench comparison](/hub/hand-tools/wera-torque-wrench) end at 25 Nm, so they cannot do this job. The Products Compared editorial team used the amazon.co.uk listings, Wera’s C 3 page and Norbar’s published examples. There was no laboratory test. Read the handbook, not a national average

The number you set is the one printed for that car and that nut. Norbar’s public note uses two different cars as examples: a BMW 5 Series at 120 Nm and a Ford Focus Titanium at 95 Nm. A later Tyre Trade News piece, again drawing on Norbar, cites a Focus at 135 Nm. Those three figures can all be real cars. They are not a range you average into 110 Nm and then apply to the car on your drive. A loose band of about 100–150 Nm is not a setting. If the handbook is missing, or the bolt also calls for an angle, use a garage. This family does not measure that angle. How to set the scale is the how-to page.

Which of these 1/2 inch wrenches can contain it

The C 1, at about £169.99, is 10–50 Nm. A 95 Nm or 120 Nm wheel nut does not fit. The C 2, at about £169.95, is 20–100 Nm and states ±3%. It can contain a figure up to 100 Nm. It cannot contain 110 Nm, 120 Nm or 135 Nm. The C 3, at about £169.00, is the usual passenger-car pick when the handbook figure sits between 40 Nm and 200 Nm. UK reviews use it to refit wheels. One owner reports hundreds of clicks and nothing coming loose, and says not to undo tight nuts with it. The C 4, at about £199.99, is 60–300 Nm and states ±3%. It earns its place when the figure is above 200 Nm and still at or under 300 Nm. It cannot set a value below 60 Nm. The C 2 Push measures both directions, but only to 100 Nm. The B 1 and B 2 are 3/8 inch. The wider check order is the buying guide.

The C 3 listing does not say 300 Nm in the title

The amazon.co.uk title and the short bullet on B07B7XXQHT say 40–200 Nm. The included-components line says 40–300 Nm. That disagreement is not a second wrench. Wera’s own C 3 page states 40–200 Nm and ±3%. The Amazon bullets do not print a percentage. The C 4 is the wrench whose title runs from 60 Nm to 300 Nm. Using the C 3’s stray 300 Nm line as a licence to set 250 Nm invents a top of range. An Amazon length cell of 12.7 cm on the C 3, or 3.81 inches on the C 4, is not the length of the tool. About £199.99 does not make the C 4 better for a 110 Nm nut.

One click, and not for a lorry

Set the handbook figure, seat the 1/2 inch socket, and pull until the release click once. A second click can sit well above the specification. Undo a tight nut with a breaker bar or the wheel brace. The torque wrench is for the final pull. Many heavy-goods wheel nuts sit around 400–650 Nm. That band is outside every wrench here, including the C 4 at 300 Nm. If the handbook figure is missing, above 300 Nm, or followed by an angle, use a garage. The best Wera torque wrench page points at the C 3 or the C 4 only when the figure fits.

Common questions

What Nm do I set for a UK wheel nut?
The figure in that vehicle’s handbook. Norbar has used 120 Nm for one BMW 5 Series and 95 Nm for a Ford Focus Titanium, and another citation puts a Focus at 135 Nm. If the handbook is missing, a garage should set the nut.
Will the A 5 or the bicycle set do wheel nuts?
No. Both stop at 25 Nm on a 1/4 inch square. The A 6 and the A 6 set stop at the same 25 Nm on a hex drive. You need a 1/2 inch C-series wrench whose printed window contains the handbook figure.
C 2 or C 3 if the book says about 110 Nm?
The C 3. Its title window is 40–200 Nm, so 110 Nm sits inside it. The C 2 ends at 100 Nm. About 110 still needs the exact handbook line. Do not round toward the C 3’s disputed 300 Nm line.
When does the C 4 earn its place over the C 3?
When the handbook figure is above 200 Nm and at or under 300 Nm. The C 4 is 60–300 Nm. If the figure is between 40 Nm and 200 Nm, the C 3 title already contains it. Below 60 Nm, the C 4 does not start low enough.
Is the C 3 a 300 Nm wrench because one Amazon line says 40–300?
No. The title says 40–200 Nm. The included-components line says 40–300 Nm. Wera’s C 3 page states 40–200 Nm. The wrench specified to 300 Nm on this shelf is the C 4, and that one starts at 60 Nm.
What if the van or lorry figure is 450 Nm?
It is outside this set. Many HGV wheel nuts are quoted around 400–650 Nm, and the highest window here is the C 4 at 60–300 Nm. A garage does that wheel. Do not scale a C 3 setting up to 450 Nm.
