Wera screwdriver buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have twelve Wera screwdrivers on amazon.co.uk, and the red and yellow handles make them look like one decision. They are four decisions. A Wera screwdriver buying guide for this capture starts with the screw, then asks whether insulation is part of the job, then chooses a fixed blade or a bit magazine, and only then matches the length. The [Wera screwdriver comparison](/hub/hand-tools/wera-screwdriver) keeps the twelve-row table, with shelf prices from £20.28 to £89.53. This page is the sequence. It does not crown one set. Prices move, the stars are amazon.co.uk figures, and the Products Compared editorial team has not run a laboratory test. Start with the screw, not the handle

UK woodscrews are commonly Pozidriv. Small ticks sit on the diagonals of the cross. A Phillips screw is a plain cross, and that driver is shaped to cam out as torque rises. bolts.co.uk describes a Phillips driver in a Pozidriv screw as a low-torque compromise. On these listings the contents line is the fact, and a conflicting head-style attribute is the field you set aside. B09VCSK9H2 at £25.94 lists PZ1 and PZ2. B09VCSH3G4 at £26.98 lists PH1 and PH2 and no Pozidriv. Kraftform 300, the extra-long three-piece and Big Pack 300 name both cross-heads in the bullets. The stubby lists PZ1 and PZ2 at 25 mm, though its head-style line says Tri-Wing. The slim seven-piece says Phillips in the attribute; UK reviews itemise PZ/S tips and say a plain PZ2 is absent. The marks are on Pozidriv vs Phillips screwdriver.

Insulation is a separate fork

Seven listings make no 1,000 volt claim: Kraftform 300, Big Pack 300, the extra-long three-piece, the Micro 12, the stubby, Kompakt 20 and Kompakt 28. They are the sets for furniture, appliances, joinery and a pocket. Red and yellow is the everyday Kraftform look as well as the insulated look. Five listings put VDE or 1,000 volts on the page. Only the 26-piece roll, B0CX1V1NLV at £89.53, names IEC 60900 beside a 1,000 volt claim. Wera's datasheet for part 05006617001 adds a 10,000 volt individual test for that working limit, on that part alone. The slim seven-piece claims a 1,000 volt water bath and does not name IEC 60900. The 2go 100 at £62.00 claims 1,000 volts and also omits the standard. The two six-piece sets say VDE; their bullets do not state volts. A 1,000 volt mark is still not permission to work live. Regulation 14 sits on Wera VDE screwdriver or everyday.

Fixed blades or a magazine

A fixed blade is one shaft. You avoid the stack of handle, holder and bit, which is where UK reviews of the Kompakt drivers report wobble. Kraftform 300, Big Pack 300, the extra-long set, the Micro set and the fixed VDE sets are that kind of tool. Kompakt 20 (B000BK7AOS, £41.95), Kompakt 28 (B002RIRGGO, £28.38) and the stubby store 1/4 inch bits in the handle. Reviewers like the pocket and the belt. They also report bits falling out, a magazine that pops open, and a shaft that is awkward to retract. None of these three claims a ratchet. Buying Kompakt 28 because the hex looks like a ratchet is a mistake its own reviews describe. Sleeve motion is on how to use a Wera Kraftform screwdriver.

Then match the length

The stubby's bits are 25 mm. Use it for a hinge screw you can already see, and stop when the screw sits down a boiler casing. Where a contents line measures a standard blade, the band is about 80 mm to 125 mm. The extra-long three-piece is the 42 cm pack, £27.12, with no insulation claim. The roll's blades are 157 mm, some with a reduced diameter. Captured prices then sit roughly in bands of £20 to £30, £37 to £55, and £62 to £90. A higher star line does not repair a wrong recess: the Micro set is a precision pouch, not a woodscrew set.

Common questions

Do I start with the brand or with the screw?
Start with the screw. Wera is already the brand on every row. Look for Pozidriv ticks or a plain Phillips cross, then open the included-components line. A head-style attribute that fights that line is unfinished data.
Which of these sets actually lists Pozidriv?
PZ1 and PZ2 are on the components line of B09VCSK9H2 and of the stubby. The bullets of Kraftform 300, the extra-long three-piece and Big Pack 300 name Pozidriv alongside Phillips. The Phillips six-piece does not. Slim-set reviews describe PZ/S, not a plain PZ2.
When is a 1,000 volt set the wrong spend?
When the job is furniture, appliances, joinery or a pocket, and insulation is not part of the work. Paying £62 or £89.53 for a mark you will not use does not improve the fit in a Pozidriv woodscrew.
Should I choose fixed blades or a bit driver?
Choose a fixed blade when you want one shaft and you can carry a driver for each recess. Choose Kompakt 20, Kompakt 28 or the stubby when one handle and a 1/4 inch magazine suit a pocket. If you need a ratchet, none of these twelve listings is that tool.
Why is there no ratchet in this comparison?
These listings do not claim one. The hex shoulder is an anti-roll shape. Kompakt 28 reviewers who expected a ratchet from that hex found a fixed driver. A 27 RA is a different purchase.
What should I ignore in the head-style attribute?
Ignore it when it fights the components line or the bullets. The stubby attribute says Tri-Wing while the bits are slotted, Phillips and Pozidriv. The Pozidriv six-piece attribute says Phillips. Use the components line, then the bullets.
