A precision screwdriver for iPhone has to be a P2 pentalobe, about 0.8 mm, on models from the iPhone 4 onward. A PH00 is a different shape and will cam out. iFixit's UK P2 page describes the five-lobe screws on the bottom of iPhones since the iPhone 4. ReplaceBase sells a single 0.8 mm P2 for that job. That shop price is not an amazon.co.uk price for these sets, so it stays off the table. Compel puts P2 at about 0.8 mm for the phone, P5 at about 1.2 mm for many MacBook bottom cases, and P6 as a less common larger pentalobe. Forcing a P5 into a P2 recess chews the lobes. PH00 is about 2 mm of cross, in iFixit's scale. It sits in the middle of a five-lobe head and does not drive it. One firm turn is enough to round it. A MacBook bottom case is often P5, not P2. What else is inside

Later iPhones are not a field of identical P2s once the bottom screws are out. Internal brackets often use a tri-point, printed as Y000 or as a small tri-wing. P2, P5, and P6 are separate drivers. Security Torx has a pin in the centre, so a plain T5 will not pass it. The two bottom screws need P2. A battery or a screen may need the tri-point as well, and only if the listing printed it. B09FFCGLHK at the same £9.99 puts P5 and tri-wing Y00 in the title, with Torx T5 to T9, not the P2 and Y000 head-size line. Opening limits

Many covers are clipped and glued. A steel shaft is a poor lever. If the kit includes a plastic spudger, that is the clip tool. If the screen will not lift without prying, stop. Do not puncture a swollen battery. Opening a phone can affect the manufacturer's warranty, so check those terms before you break a seal. Fanttik's E2 Ultra lists steps from 0.05 to 0.6 N·m. UK reviews say the lowest stated gear can still strip heads. iFixit makes the same point about powered drivers. Use a hand P2, with light pressure along the screw. The 0.05 N·m figure is the listing's number, not a clearance to use it on the bottom of the phone.

Common questions

What size opens the bottom of an iPhone?

A P2 pentalobe, about 0.8 mm, for the two bottom screws on iPhones from the iPhone 4 onward. That is iFixit's description of those screws and the size Compel and ReplaceBase attach to a P2. It is not PH00, and it is not the P5 used on many MacBook bottom cases. Later screws inside the phone may be a small tri-point instead.

Is PH00 the same as pentalobe?

No. PH00 is a Phillips cross. Pentalobe is five lobes. The cross-head bit can look close in a photo and still sit in the middle of a P2 without driving it. One hard turn rounds the lobes. Bosch's set includes PH000, PH00, and PH0 and still has no pentalobe on the size list, which is why that set does not open these screws.

What about a MacBook bottom case?

Many MacBook bottom cases use a P5 pentalobe, about 1.2 mm in Compel's table, not the phone's P2. P6 is the less common larger size. JOREST B09PY8WQHJ prints P2, P5, and P6 on one head-size line. A P2-only driver will not do the laptop, and a P5 in the phone's bottom screws is the wrong way round.

Which kept sets name P2 or P5?

B09PY8WQHJ names P2 0.8, P5 1.2, P6 1.5, and Y000 on the head-size line. B09FFCGLHK's title names P5 and tri-wing Y00, not that full P2 line. STREBITO names pentalobe without those millimetre sizes. Bosch's printed list has neither P2 nor P5. Wera's amazon spec block does not list tip sizes, so P2 is not confirmed there.

Do I need Y000 as well?

You need it if you are going past the bottom screws into brackets that use a tri-point. Y000 is on the B09PY8WQHJ head-size line, which is the listing fact to shop from. You do not need it for the two external screws alone. Not every internal screw in every generation is Y000, so check the screw in front of you rather than buying on a single photo.
