Which Makita plasterboard screwdriver should you buy?

Updated: 24 October 2026

You already want Makita. The question is which Makita plasterboard screwdriver matches the socket, the site lead, or the 18 V packs you own. The [Makita drywall screwdriver comparison](/hub/hand-tools/makita-drywall-screwdriver) keeps five amazon.co.uk listings, and they are not five versions of one UK gun. One title states 240 V, one states 110 V, two are bare 18 V bodies, and one corded listing prints 6 A and never states a voltage. Who each row suits is on the [best Makita drywall screwdriver](/hub/hand-tools/makita-drywall-screwdriver/sub/makita-drywall-screwdriver-best) page. Prices are the amazon.co.uk figures in this set. Peter F. did not lab-test these guns. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Three supplies, not five colours

Read the supply before the stars. Beside a normal UK 13 A socket, the FS4300/2 says 240 V: corded, 4,000 RPM, 570 W, an adjustable depth locator and a 1/4 inch hex, at £119.99. A yellow site outlet is the FS2500/1: 110 V, 2,500 RPM, a 5 mm drywall screw and a 6 mm self-drilling screw, at £99.99. On construction sites the Health and Safety Executive expects cordless tools or 110 V centre-tapped-to-earth. Toolden says the 110 V FS2500 needs a transformer and is not for a standard 240 V socket. The plugs are on the 110 V or 240 V page. Both cordless listings are bare. The DFS251Z is £129.43 and the XSF04Z is £294.98. If you do not already own Makita 18 V packs, stop at the corded fork.

What /2 and /1 mean on these listings

The suffix is the voltage clue, not a colour. FS4300/2 on this title is the 240 V screwdriver. Makita UK's FS4300 page is the same family: 240 V, 570 W, 0–4,000 min⁻¹. A 110 V FS4300 exists at UK shops. This ASIN is the /2, so do not buy it and then order a transformer for a house. FS2500/1 is the 110 V TEK screwdriver. A bullet also says Teak applications, which is a slip next to TEK. The family manual says to connect the tool only to the nameplate voltage. A new plug does not rewrite that plate. A spare room is the /2 at £119.99. A site transformer is the /1 at £99.99.

Bodies that are not a kit

The DFS251Z title says batteries and charger are not included. You get a belt clip, a magnetic socket bit, and the tool. The amazon speed table prints 2.5 RPM and 500 RPM. Those figures disagree with the manual, which says 0–2,500 min⁻¹. Ignore the table. Reviewers say the supplied holder does not take an ordinary 1/4 inch bit and is set up for cladding rather than plasterboard. At £129.43 the amazon price is far below Toolden's £235.68. The XSF04Z is a US tool-only code at 2,500 RPM. The UK DFS452, at 0–4,000 min⁻¹, is not an ASIN here.

What to leave in the basket

Leave the FS4200 unless a nameplate photo shows a voltage you already have. The title says 6 A and no volts, at £150.55, and the only UK review in the file, from 26 January 2017, returned the tool as USA stock. Leave the DFS251Z as a plasterboard gun if you still need a standard bit and a battery. Leave the XSF04Z if you thought the code was a DFS452. If the lining is a specified fire or acoustic system, or you are employed and untrained on the gun, that is not a checkout decision.

Common questions

Which of these five is the house-socket gun?
The FS4300/2. The title says 240 V and drywall screwdriver, it is corded at 4,000 RPM and 570 W, and the price here is £119.99. The FS2500/1 is 110 V. The FS4200 does not state a voltage. The DFS251Z and the XSF04Z are 18 V bodies, and a battery is not something you should treat as included. A normal 13 A outlet points at the /2.
What does FS4300/2 mean?
On this listing, /2 is the 240 V FS4300. Makita UK's page matches that supply: 240 V, 570 W, up to 4,000 revolutions per minute. UK shops also sell a 110 V FS4300 as a different tool. Do not expect a yellow site plug from this ASIN. Check the nameplate against the title when it arrives.
Does £129.43 include a battery?
No. The DFS251Z title says batteries and charger are not included. The contents are a belt clip, a magnetic socket bit and the tool. The XSF04Z at £294.98 is titled tool only, even though one line mentions a battery count of 1. A Makita 18 V pack and charger are extra, and that extra can cost more than the FS4300/2 at £119.99.
Is the XSF04Z the DFS452?
No. The XSF04Z is Makita's US tool-only code at 2,500 RPM. The DFS452 is Makita UK's current cordless plasterboard screwdriver at 0–4,000 min⁻¹, and it is not one of these five ASINs. A DFS452 body in the shops sits near £249, with kits higher once batteries are included. Paying £294.98 here does not convert the model code.
Can I use the 110 V gun at home?
Not from a 13 A socket. The FS2500/1 says 110 V. Toolden says that screwdriver needs a transformer and is not for a standard 240 V socket. Changing the plug does not change the motor. At home, the corded listing that states 240 V is the FS4300/2. Keep the FS2500/1 for a site that already has 110 V centre-tapped outlets.
Why is the FS4200 dearer than the FS4300 if the stars are higher?
The FS4200 is £150.55 with 4.7 from 327 ratings. The FS4300/2 is £119.99 with 4.6 from 100. The higher stars sit on a listing that prints 6 A and no voltage, and the only UK review returned it as USA stock on 26 January 2017. Most of those reviews are from the United States and Canada. The FS4300/2 title states 240 V.
