Makita drywall screwdriver 110 V or 240 V

Updated: 24 October 2026

The lead you will plug in decides a Makita drywall screwdriver before any star rating does. A 110 V or 240 V mistake is not something you fix with an adapter. In the [Makita drywall screwdriver comparison](/hub/hand-tools/makita-drywall-screwdriver) the corded rows are the FS4300/2, the FS2500/1 and the FS4200, and the plugs are not interchangeable. Prices are amazon.co.uk shelf prices in this set. Peter F. did not run these guns on a supply. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

240 V when the socket is a 13 A

Buy the FS4300/2 when the socket beside the board is a normal UK 13 A outlet. The title says 240 V drywall screwdriver. It is corded, 4,000 RPM, 570 W, with an adjustable depth locator, at £119.99. UK mains are 230 V nominal, and a BS 1363 plug is what a house has on the wall. Makita UK's FS4300 page matches the family: 240 V, 570 W, 0–4,000 min⁻¹. This ASIN is the /2. A 110 V FS4300 is a different tool at UK shops. The family manual says to connect the tool only to the nameplate voltage. A spare room at home is the /2.

110 V when the outlet is the site transformer

Buy the FS2500/1 when the outlet is already 110 V from a site transformer. The listing says 110 V, 2,500 RPM, a 5 mm drywall screw and a 6 mm self-drilling screw, at £99.99 and 1 kg. Toolden says it needs a transformer plug and is not for a standard 240 V socket. Do not fit a 13 A top. Centre-tapped earth means the 110 V winding is tapped in the middle to earth, so each conductor sits at about 55 V to earth. That is why the Health and Safety Executive talks about 110 V tools on site. It will not run this FS2500/1 from the socket behind a fridge. If the site has no 110 V, £99.99 is not a discount on the FS4300/2.

Good practice, not a rule for every room

The Institution of Engineering and Technology treats 110 V centre-tapped supplies as good practice in harsh environments, not as a legal duty in every room. The FS4300/2 on a 13 A socket is the ordinary domestic arrangement. The safety case is the centre-tapped site system, not a 110 V tool forced onto 240 V, and not a 120 V US gun on a converter. If you are employed on a site, follow the supply the site provides. If you already own Makita packs, use the cordless or corded page. Do not buy the FS2500/1 to be safe at home.

The listing that will not say

The FS4200 will not tell you the voltage. The title says 6 A, the speed is 4,000 RPM, and the price is £150.55. The only UK review, from 26 January 2017, returned the tool as USA stock. A US context for this kind of 6.0 A tool is 120 V. That is not UK 240 V, and it is not 110 V centre-tapped. Do not add a converter or a 13 A plug. A listed 60 Nm is not the 16 Nm on the FS4300/2. Take the FS4300/2 for a UK mains socket, the FS2500/1 for 110 V centre-tapped outlets, and the FS4200 only if you have seen a matching voltage on the tool.

Common questions

Which listing is for a normal UK socket?
The FS4300/2. The title says 240 V, it is corded at 4,000 RPM and 570 W, and the price here is £119.99. A house socket is a 13 A BS 1363 outlet. The FS2500/1 states 110 V. The FS4200 states 6 A and no voltage. If you cannot point at 240 V on the listing, you are not looking at the house-socket gun in this set.
Will the FS2500/1 run if I change the plug?
Do not change the plug. The listing says 110 V, and Toolden says it needs a transformer plug and is not for a standard 240 V socket. A 13 A top on a 110 V motor is the wrong supply, not a saving against the £119.99 FS4300/2. If you only have a household socket, buy the listing that says 240 V.
Is 110 V the law on every UK site?
No. The Health and Safety Executive expects cordless tools or 110 V centre-tapped-to-earth on construction sites so the voltage to earth does not exceed 55 V. The Institution of Engineering and Technology calls that good practice in harsh environments, not a duty in every room. A house is not that site rule. A site that already uses yellow outlets is where the FS2500/1 belongs.
What is centre-tapped earth in one sentence?
The 110 V transformer winding is earthed at its midpoint, so each live conductor sits at about 55 V to earth instead of the full 110 V. That is the arrangement behind yellow site outlets. It is not an adapter you add to a 240 V screwdriver, and it does not turn a 120 V US gun into a UK site tool.
Why is a 240 V gun a problem on a site lead?
The FS4300/2 is built for the 240 V on its listing. A 110 V centre-tapped site lead is a different supply. The tool will not see the voltage it was meant to see, which is what site guidance is trying to avoid in harsh conditions. Use the FS2500/1 on that lead, or a cordless tool.
The FS4200 does not show a voltage. What do I do?
Leave it, unless a nameplate photo shows a voltage you already use. The title says 6 A, the price is £150.55, and the UK review returned it as USA stock on 26 January 2017. Most reviews in that file are from the United States and Canada. Do not guess that 6 A means 240 V, and do not add a converter. The FS4300/2 states 240 V. The FS2500/1 states 110 V.
