Mini kettle barbecue buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have a small patio and a shortlist of round charcoal kettles that all say mini, then disagree. One title says 17 inch, another says 75 cm cook height, and two Weber rows print an area smaller than a postcard. Check the bowl in the photos, then the lid and the vents, then the fields that fight those photos, and only then the price. The [mini kettle barbecue comparison](/hub/grills-and-barbecues/mini-kettle-barbecue) ranks the seven amazon.co.uk listings. Peter F. read those listings and Weber’s UK pages. We did not cook on them. Prices are the saved listing figures. A purchase through our links may earn a commission. Updated 23 October 2026.

Three sizes, not one mini

A mini kettle here is a round charcoal bowl with a lid, about 37–47 cm across, not a 57 cm family kettle. About 37–38 cm is the tabletop. Weber’s 37 cm Smokey Joe is not in this folder. GOODS+GADGETS is the 38 cm listing at £34.11. About 43 cm is the budget wheeled ball, often labelled 17 inch. FINE GARDEN is £27.99, PREMZO about 43 cm at £28.80, and HOMION £28.99 at 3.5 kg. House of Home, at £33.99, prints a width of 47 cm and 1,520 cm². The 75 cm in that title is height. The 47 cm band is Weber. Compact 1502054 is the lower Amazon price. Original 1502192 states 1,548 cm², a lid thermometer and 8.9 kg. Weber points couples at 47 cm and also says 4–6 on the Original page. If the shallow lid feels tight, the 47 cm versus 57 cm page is the size decision.

Fields that do not match the bowl

The specification boxes sometimes describe a different object from the photo. The Compact and the Original both show 47 square centimetres as an area. That is a small card, not a grate. Weber publishes 1,548 cm² for Original 1502192. That figure is not the HOMION, the PREMZO or the House of Home. House of Home clashes too: width 47 cm, area 1,520 cm², and a title height of 75 cm. Keep 75 cm as height. The material line can say Plastic on a Weber. Weber’s UK pages specify porcelain-enamelled steel, so treat Plastic as a bad field and use weight. HOMION is 3.5 kg. The Compact listing is about 9 kg. The Original is about 8.9 kg on Weber’s page and 8.94 kg on Amazon. Model 1502192’s page lists a thermometer. Model 1502054’s captured page does not.

What to spend

Price comes after the diameter and the lid. Saved amazon.co.uk prices run from £27.99 to £111.24. Weber’s shop prices for the same model numbers are a second column. Keep them separate. Entry prices are £27.99 to £28.99 for FINE GARDEN, PREMZO and HOMION, then £33.99 to £34.11 for House of Home and GOODS+GADGETS. Compact 1502054 is £49.49 on Amazon and £94.99 on weber.com/GB. Original 1502192 is £111.24 on Amazon and £124.99 on Weber’s shop. £49.49 does not promise the lid gauge some UK reviews expected. A lighter trolley can suit a small garden if you accept thinner metal. It is a poor swap for Weber’s enamel and the 1,548 cm² grate. Who each listing is for is on the best mini kettle barbecue page. None states a result against BS EN 1860-1:2024.

Who should not buy one

Stop if the only outdoors is a balcony, a tent, or a caravan. A smaller bowl does not change that. The balcony page is the stop. Stop if the usual meal is an indirect roast or a rotisserie. Weber publishes the 57 cm kettle at 2,342 cm² for indirect grilling, and also sells a Compact shape at 57 cm, so compact is a lid style, not a diameter. Buy when you have a garden or patio, you will keep the kettle outside until the ash is cold, and the band matches the table.

Common questions

Is 17 inch the same as 43 cm?
Yes, as a conversion. Seventeen inches is about 43 cm, so those titles are the same size band. FINE GARDEN uses the inch label at £27.99, and PREMZO is about 43 cm at £28.80. The conversion does not make them the same metal or grate as a 47 cm Weber.
Does 75 cm cook height mean a bigger bowl than a 47 cm Weber?
No. On the House of Home listing that phrase is a height claim. The same listing prints a width of 47 cm and an area of 1,520 cm², about a 44 cm circle. Weber’s 1,548 cm² belongs to the 47 cm Original grate, not to this bowl. A height of 75 cm does not make a 75 cm kettle.
Do I need a lid thermometer?
Only if you intend to steer by lid temperature. A lid gauge reads kettle air, not the centre of the meat. Weber’s page for Original 1502192 lists a thermometer. The captured page for Compact 1502054 does not, and UK reviews say one was promised and was not on the lid. If the gauge is why you are paying, buy the model whose page lists it, and still use a food probe for chicken.
Why do two Weber listings disagree with their own area field?
The Compact and the Original both show 47 cm² in a specification field on the saved Amazon pages. Forty-seven square centimetres cannot be the cooking area of a 47 cm bowl. Weber’s UK page for model 1502192 states 1,548 cm². Use that published grate figure for the Original, and treat 47 cm² as a broken field on both listings. A budget trolley that never claimed it does not inherit the number.
Is a 3.5 kg kettle the same build as a 9 kg one?
No. HOMION is listed at 3.5 kg and £28.99. The Weber Compact listing is about 9 kg, and the Original is about 8.9 kg on Weber’s page. Shared shape does not share metal thickness, enamel, or the 10-year limited bowl-and-lid warranty Weber states for its 47 cm kettles. Weight is the check when the material line says Plastic and the photo shows a steel bowl.
