Electric kebab knife: what to check before you pay

Updated: 23 October 2026

You are about to buy a handheld slicer for a doner, shawarma, or gyros spit. An amazon.co.uk search for an electric kebab knife also returns skewers, spare discs, sharpeners, and loose leads. You want the round-blade knife: a spinning disc, a thickness shoe, and a handle against the cooked cone. This page is the checklist. The [Electric kebab knife comparison](/hub/grills-and-barbecues/electric-kebab-knife) holds the seven listings, from £88.88 to £349.99. We read them on 20 October 2026 and did not run a kitchen trial. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are actually buying

An electric kebab knife is a handheld doner slicer, not a carving knife and not a worktop bread slicer. The disc turns, a shoe sets the shaving, and you move the head down the cone. A skewer, a spare blade, a sharpener, or a loose lead is the wrong object. Printed windows are 1–8 mm on the Zenith Bloom, 0–8 mm on several others, and 0–6 mm on the £349.99 trimmer. Those are listing claims. A photo of a disc is not a guard. Reject the row if thickness is missing or the power source is a guess. Rows that claim a cord and a battery are on the corded or cordless kebab knife page.

Five checks on the listing

JUXDZISHW at £158.97 prints 0–0.31 inch in the title and 0–3 inch (8 mm) in a bullet. About 8 mm matches 0.31 inch. A 3-inch range does not. Zenith Bloom’s 1–8 mm is one window. 0 mm and 1 mm are not the same stop. Zenith Bloom is the only stated lead length: 3 m at £88.88, with a blade guard, cooked lamb and chicken only, a daily 60 kg claim, and no wattage. AYCDL at £110.40 states 80 W, 2,800 RPM, and 60 kg per 24 hours, with no lead and no battery. JUXDZISHW states 80 W, up to 60 kg/h, a charger, and two packs. The £192.99 generic claims batteries and a cord. An hour, a day, and 24 hours are not the same shift. None of the seven prints a voltage or a BS 1363 plug.

What a fuller trade listing prints

ECatering’s cordless Contender, not one of the seven, prints 80 W, 3,400 RPM, 0–8 mm, two batteries, and £165.79 including VAT. That is not a score for these ASINs. One Easy Cut sheet states 230 V in and 30 V DC out. Our set never writes a voltage. Quote 2,800 RPM only for AYCDL, and up to 2,600 RPM only for JUXDZISHW and the £192.99 generic. The £349.99 row names an adaptor and 0–6 mm and still omits wattage. AYCDL’s bone line is a bullet. If the manual does not repeat it, refuse it.

When to stop and read the plate

Regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 expects a BS 1363 plug where domestic equipment has a flex. Electrical Safety First’s slicer note says use a UK 3-pin plug and do not immerse the body. If the plate is unreadable, or the plug is not a UK 13 A type, ask a competent person before you use it. Walk away when thickness conflicts, when a battery and a cord are both claimed, or when the only review says the cutter has no power. The £148.88 generic prints 10 × 10 × 10 mm beside 1.5 kg and says Manual. JUXDZISHW’s UK review of 21 September 2026 says one battery does not work. For a shop, the word commercial is not training. That duty is on the takeaway page.

Common questions

Is this the round-blade knife, or a skewer, a spare disc, or a sharpener?
Look at the object. This comparison is a handheld slicer with a round blade and a thickness range. A skewer, a spare disc, a sharpener, or a loose lead can share the search and still be the wrong buy.
Should I buy corded or cordless?
Buy the lead at one socket, and a second battery when you cannot stand there. Only Zenith Bloom prints a length, 3 m. The cordless rows print no runtime. AYCDL names neither supply. The £192.99 generic claims both.
What if the title and the bullet disagree on thickness?
Treat it as a failed check. JUXDZISHW’s title says 0–0.31 inch and a bullet says 0–3 inch (8 mm). A single window, such as 1–8 mm or 0–8 mm, is what you test on the shoe. If your manual prints another figure, the manual wins.
Does any of these seven state a voltage or a 13 A plug?
No. None prints a voltage or a BS 1363 plug. A 3 m lead and an adaptor both omit voltage. Regulation 35 is about domestic equipment with a flex, not a promise the seller fitted the right plug. Read the plate.
Is 60 kg an hour, a day, or 24 hours?
Read the unit on that ASIN. AYCDL says 60 kg per 24 hours. Zenith Bloom says a daily 60 kg and prints no wattage. JUXDZISHW and the £192.99 generic say up to 60 kg/h. The other three print no capacity.
What should I refuse without a manual?
Refuse bone, frozen meat, and any runtime the listing never printed. AYCDL’s bone line is a bullet. KuKoo’s public sheet, which is not the manual for these ASINs, forbids frozen food and bone. If your sheet disagrees with the listing, follow the sheet.
