6 burner BBQ how many people

Updated: 23 October 2026

You are marking a British patio before a family lunch, because the listing treats a six-burner as a party grill. “6 burner BBQ how many people” comes back as about six guests or about 18, on grates that are often 70–80 cm by 35–45 cm. In this set the cart is about 1.3–1.5 m wide before a side shelf opens. This page follows those centimetres and does not pick a star-rating winner. Prices are on the [6 burner gas BBQ comparison](/hub/grills-and-barbecues/6-burner-gas-bbq). Figures are from published grates and UK retailer guides on 21 October 2026, not a lab cook.

Guest counts are not a test

Seller headcounts are slogans. DIY Garden attaches “up to 18 people” to a CosmoGrill of 77 × 42 cm. Wilko calls the Ottimo 420 “ideal for 6–8 people”. Fire Mountain has called an Olympus, not in this set, “ideal for 3–6” on a 72 × 46 cm grate. Those lines are not a shared test. Robert Dyas points regular cooks of eight or more to five- and six-burner grills, above about 60 × 45 cm. Which? publishes no headcount formula. A Pro Deluxe review said 14 felt tight and about 30 felt fine. That is one occasion, not a rating.

The grates in this set

A 77 × 42 cm grate is 3,234 cm². It is wide, and the 42 cm depth is the limit. Robert Dyas looks for an area above about 60 × 45 cm, which is 2,700 cm², so this surface is larger and still shallower than that guide. The “up to 18” claim describes this grate, not a bigger one. The Emberr is 77 × 34 cm, 8 cm less depth than the Pro Deluxe. The BROILUCK is about 70 × 36 cm. The TOV has no usable grate, and an item height of 47.5 cm looks like a carton. Listing lines that contradict each other are in the 6 burner gas BBQ buying guide.

The patio has to hold the cart

The Pro Deluxe cart is about 149 × 55 × 110 cm. The Emberr is 141 × 52 × 107.5 cm. The BROILUCK is about 139 × 50 × 105 cm. Weber’s UK guide still wants room to stand, and a 149 cm wagon sits at the wide end. Robert Dyas says measure with the side shelves open. GOV.UK tells you to keep a barbecue away from sheds, fences, and waste. Cylinder choice is on the propane versus butane page.

When a crowd still does not need six burners

Six burners are zones. You can sear on one side and hold food on a cooler side. Which?’s four-burner example is 64 × 35 cm on a cart 118 cm wide, smaller than the usable grills here. Choose six when a long row should finish together and the cart will fit. Choose two batches when a cart of about 1.4 m will not leave you room to stand. A weeknight meal for two can run on two burners with the rest off. That is a weak buy if you host twice a summer and the side passage is already tight. Assembly and lighting are in how to use a gas BBQ, after the size is settled.

When the width fails the party

Cook a second batch when the table is bigger than 77 × 42 cm. Step up to six burners for eight people only when two heat zones and a cart around 1.4 m will fit. If the chalked marks reach the fence or the shed, the wagon is too wide. A balcony is the same refusal.

Common questions

How many people does a 77 × 42 cm grate feed?
No test turns 77 × 42 cm into a guest count. The grate is 3,234 cm², larger than Robert Dyas’s 60 × 45 cm guide and only 42 cm deep. DIY Garden’s “up to 18 people” is a claim on a CosmoGrill of this size. Cook one full grate, then a second batch if the table is bigger.
Is six burners better than four for a party of eight?
Six burners help eight people when you want two heat zones and a cart around 1.4 m will fit. Robert Dyas points regular cooks of eight or more to five- and six-burner grills, above about 60 × 45 cm. Four burners still work if the food goes out in two rounds. Which?’s four-burner example is 64 × 35 cm on a cart 118 cm wide. Do not step up to six if you will only light two burners.
Will a 149 cm cart fit a normal patio?
A 149 cm cart fits if you can stand in front and keep clear of the fence, the shed, and stored waste. The Pro Deluxe is about 149 × 55 × 110 cm, inside Weber’s span of about 0.7 m to 1.7 m, which still asks for standing room. Chalk the rectangle before the two boxes arrive. If the marks reach the side gate, the wagon is too wide for that patio.
Can I run only two burners on a weeknight?
Yes. Two burners will cook for two people, with the other knobs off. You still store a cart about 139–149 cm wide and a gas bottle beside it. That is fair when weekends use the width, and too much steel if you never cook for more than four. A four-burner already gives you more than one heat zone in less patio.
Is a balcony out of the question?
This wagon is too wide for a typical balcony. The carts are about 1.3–1.5 m across and about half a metre deep, before shelves and a place to stand. GOV.UK wants clearance from fences, sheds, and waste, and a balcony crowds the grill against the building and the railing. A smaller grill is the size that belongs there.
