4 burner gas BBQ with side burner

Updated: 23 October 2026

You want a pan of onions beside the grate, not a second trip to the hob. A 4 burner gas BBQ with side burner is the 4+1 trolley: four burners under the hood, plus a small ring. The ring does not make the grate larger, and reviews often call it fiddly or incomplete. Five of the six models claim one. Prices and star lines are on the [4 burner gas BBQ comparison](/hub/grills-and-barbecues/4-burner-gas-bbq). The wider checklist is the [4 burner gas BBQ buying guide](/hub/grills-and-barbecues/4-burner-gas-bbq/sub/4-burner-gas-bbq-buying-guide). What 4+1 adds, and what it does not

On these pages, 4+1 means four main gas burners and one side burner. Titles that say 5 gas burner suggest a fifth strip of grate. The stated areas show otherwise. The Original and the cover bundle stay at 1,952 cm² with a 2.1 kW side burner in the bullets. The Pro Deluxe states 2,602 cm² and a 2.5 kW side burner because the main box is 135 cm wide, not because of the ring. Both Campfire listings state 2,275 cm² and a 2.5 kW side burner on a 129.5 cm body. The Oopsiou, at £127.70, does not state a side burner. Its bullets describe four knobs and four steel plates. If you remember a ring in the photo, check the bullet.

When a pan ring earns the width

The left two burners can stay hot for burgers, the right two lower for chicken, and a pan of onions sits on the side ring. Gardeners' World and Which BBQ Reviews describe that job. Which BBQ Reviews also treats the side burner as optional, because a side shelf holds plates without another gas joint. These trolleys are already 126 to 135 cm before you allow elbow room, and the hose has to reach a cylinder that is not stored under the stairs. If the meal is sausages and burgers on the grate, a shelf is simpler. Buy the ring when the pan is part of the meal most times you light it. A ring you rarely use still adds a connector that has to be present and leak-checked.

What the listings and reviews actually say

The Original states the side burner, and UK reviewers mention onions on it. They also call the diagram fiddly. The cover bundle states the same 2.1 kW ring, and its reviews still say the regulator was not included. The Campfire at £169.99 claims the side burner and lists one among included components. Reviews report missing side-burner connections and a flimsy build. That is the clearest case of the picture not matching the carton. The Campfire Pro+ also claims a 2.5 kW ring, but it has 3.8 from only 3 reviews, and the single review text is about the missing hose. Count the connectors before you connect gas.

Light it as a second gas circuit

The side burner has its own knob and its own joint. The pan should be on the ring, and you light that burner on its own after soapy water on the joint. Bubbles mean you shut the cylinder before any flame. The ring is still outdoor gas on the same cylinder. It does not make a gazebo acceptable. If the connectors are missing, do not bend a pipe to suit. Stop, and either get the missing part or cook without that ring. Pressure and hose marks belong on the gas BBQ hose and regulator page.

Common questions

What does 4+1 mean on a gas barbecue?
It means four burners under the hood and one side burner for a pan. That is the CosmoGrill and Campfire layout in this set. Titles that say 5 gas burner are describing the same hardware. Cooking area stays 1,952, 2,275 or 2,602 cm². Use those figures for food on the bars.
Is a side burner a fifth grill burner?
The side burner is a ring, not another section of grate. Burgers still sit over the four main burners. A pan of onions is the job the ring is built for. If the only size on the page is the main cooking area, the ring has not increased it. The Oopsiou listing does not state a side burner at all.
Do I need one if I only grill sausages and burgers?
A shelf is enough for buns, a raw plate and tongs, and it avoids a second gas joint. Which BBQ Reviews treats a side burner as useful and not essential every day. Take the ring when a saucepan is part of how you cook, and when you have width to spare. These trolleys are already 126 to 135 cm.
Which listings in this set state a side burner?
The Original and the cover bundle state a 2.1 kW side burner. The Pro Deluxe and both Campfire listings state 2.5 kW in the bullets. The Oopsiou does not state one. Stated is not the same as found in the box. Campfire B0DZ74V2B7 reviews include missing side-burner connections, so count the parts before you open the cylinder.
Why do reviews mention the side burner as a build problem?
On the Original, people who cook onions on it also call the diagram fiddly and the parts hard to line up. On the Campfire with 59 reviews, the complaint is missing connectors and a flimsy build. The ring is a small flat-pack at the edge of the trolley, which is why it shows up in first-weekend reviews. Allow the two-person build the bullets already admit.
Does the side burner need its own leak check?
Yes. It is a second outlet on the same hose, with its own control. Brush soapy water on that joint and light it only when the joint stays still. If the connectors were not in the carton, do not improvise a join. Shut the gas off and sort the missing part before you light that ring.
