3 burner gas BBQ buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

This 3 burner gas BBQ buying guide is for a UK patio where the cylinder is already in the shed and the amazon.co.uk titles all say three burners for about £169.99 to about £279.99. Those titles hide two facts. The third heat source may be a main burner, a ceramic sear burner, or wording that looks like a side hob. The carton may or may not include a 37 mbar propane hose. The checks below follow that order for the six listings in our [3 burner gas BBQ comparison](/hub/grills-and-barbecues/3-burner-gas-bbq). We did not cook on the grills in a lab. What the third burner is

Read the burner bullet before any line about how many people the grill feeds. On both CosmoGrill Wabaya listings the stated split is two 2.5 kW stainless burners plus a 2.5 kW ceramic sear burner, 7.5 kW altogether. Amazon’s phrase “main burners 2, side burners 1” still places that ceramic burner in the grill. It is not a side hob. The Onlyfire tabletop lists three main burners and no side burner. The Onlyfire cart is written as a three-burner firebox on a trolley. The two Modern Outdoor Living carts are written as three burners as well. B0B1DN3R7J is filed under charcoal barbecues. That rank is a catalogue error on a gas listing.

Grate before guest count

Which? points a household of about four to six toward a two-burner, or a grate of about 40 × 45 cm. Gardenbox puts cooking area first and uses about 2,500–3,500 cm² for four to six. Neither page measures these grates. In this set the printed areas cluster around 1,700–1,850 cm², and one £169.99 cart prints no centimetre grate at all. Four burgers fit that metal in two rounds. A whole rack of chicken for six at once will crowd it. The headcount clash is on the 3 burner vs 4 burner gas BBQ page.

The UK gas fitting

Propane and patio gas in the UK are supplied at 37 mbar. Butane is nominally 28–30 mbar. Liquid Gas UK’s consumer guidance sheet 39, from August 2020, states those pressures and notes that new regulators are marked BS EN 16129. Patio gas is often a 27 mm clip-on, which is how Hamilton Gas Products describes the shop fitting. Other propane cylinders use a POL screw connection. Match the data plate and the cylinder. Both Wabaya cartons include a 37 mbar propane hose, and the bullet says butane needs another set. Both Modern Outdoor Living carts include a propane hose and print no millibar figure. The Onlyfire cart bullet names a regulator for a 1 lb bottle and a 5/8 inch tail for a larger tank, and it prints “30 MPA”. That is not a UK 27 mm clip-on at 37 mbar. The tabletop’s included line is a lid, folding legs, and a handle. We do not claim these listings are certified to BS EN 498:2012.

Ignition, metal, and the grease path

The Wabaya uses a piezo igniter, so the first cook does not depend on a battery in the spares bag. The Onlyfire tabletop is listed with electric or automatic ignition, and one UK review found the middle igniter wire broken. The Onlyfire cart is twist-start. On Modern Outdoor Living B0B1DN3R7J a UK reviewer could not find the battery, and the temperature gauge arrived broken. Stainless on these listings usually names the burners or the grate. The cart body is painted, powdered, or enamel steel. Fat still has to leave the firebox. The tabletop names a removable tray. Who each of the six is for is on the best 3 burner gas BBQ page.

Common questions

Is the third burner a main burner or a sear burner?
On the Wabaya the third heat source is a 2.5 kW ceramic sear burner beside two 2.5 kW main burners. The Onlyfire and Modern Outdoor Living rows are written as three burners under the food. The title “3 burner” covers both layouts, so read the burner bullet.
What grate size should you expect around £170 to £280?
In this price band the printed grates cluster around 1,700–1,850 cm². The Wabaya is 47 × 37 cm, the Onlyfire field is 1,847.69 cm², and one Modern Outdoor Living cart prints 410 × 415 mm. The other £169.99 cart prints no centimetre grate.
Does the box include a 37 mbar propane hose?
The CosmoGrill Wabaya bullets include a 37 mbar propane hose and say butane needs a different set. The Modern Outdoor Living carts name a propane hose and do not print a millibar figure. The Onlyfire tabletop does not name a regulator in the included list. The Onlyfire cart describes a 1 lb bottle and a 5/8 inch tail, which is a different connection from a UK 27 mm patio-gas clip-on.
Can you use a butane regulator on a propane grill?
Use the pressure on the data plate. Propane and patio gas in the UK are 37 mbar, and butane is nominally 28–30 mbar. The Wabaya bullet tells you to buy another set for butane. Match the regulator to the cylinder, not to the word “gas” in the title.
What is the difference between piezo and battery ignition?
A piezo igniter sparks from the click, so the Wabaya needs no battery. Electric ignition needs a cell or a wire that is actually attached. A missing battery on B0B1DN3R7J and a broken middle wire on the Onlyfire tabletop both showed up in UK reviews. Twist-start on the Onlyfire cart is a control you turn by hand.
Does a higher kW total cook better?
A higher kilowatt figure is stated heat release, not a larger grate. These rows run from 7 kW to 9 kW on grates under about 1,850 cm². We do not treat 9 kW as a better cook than 7 kW. Separate zones and the measured grate decide how much food you can keep apart.
