Weber kettle or portable charcoal barbecue

Updated: October 2026

Choose a Weber kettle or portable charcoal barbecue by asking whether it will stay in one garden or must fit into a car and be lifted at the other end. A 47 cm or 57 cm stand kettle gives you more cooking area, working height and wheels, while a Smokey Joe or Go-Anywhere sacrifices space to travel more easily. If four to six people usually eat in the same garden, keep the stand kettle. If the barbecue regularly moves, buy the portable. When the stand kettle is the one to keep

A 47 cm stand kettle provides a stated 1,548 cm² cooking area and is described for four to six people. The 57 cm versions increase that to 2,342 cm² and six to eight people. Wheels help you reposition the kettle outdoors, but they do not make it luggage. Weber states 8.9 kg for Original 47 cm model 1502192 and 18 kg for Original Premium 57 cm model 1502210. The Compact 47 cm Amazon listing says 9 kg. A wheeled frame is less tidy to secure than a portable whose legs or handle lock the lid. If the remaining choice is Compact against Original, use our Weber buying guide; that is thermometer and ash, not portability.

Smokey Joe Premium

The Smokey Joe Premium is a 37 cm round portable. Weber states 948 cm², 5.48 kg and closed dimensions of 43.2 × 36.1 × 42 cm for model 1121004. Tuck-N-Carry locks the lid in transport and can hold the lid while you cook. The black and slate Amazon listings were both £84.99 and both showed 4.5 from 1,394 reviews on 15 October 2026. That is one shared colour pool, so do not add the counts. The slate record also conflicts: delivered-colour wording says Slate Blue while a model-name line says Black. Verify the colour at checkout. It suits two people comfortably and can serve up to four when the menu fits 948 cm².

Go-Anywhere: two model numbers

The supported UK Go-Anywhere is model 1131004, ASIN B00GYUN5ZM. Weber states 1,032 cm², 6.78 kg and capacity for two to four people. Folding legs lock the lid for transport, then become the base. The listing required no assembly and showed £100.79 with 4.7 from 1,645 reviews. Model 1500763, ASIN B0DQLSBYG3, was £97.43. It is a different Go-Anywhere. It names a two-piece grate and char-rail, requires assembly, and is a US import whose manufacturer warranty will not apply. It showed 4.6 from 117 reviews and a listed 6.35 kg. A £3.36 saving does not erase the warranty and assembly differences. Choose 1131004 for the Weber UK model and the larger review file.

Which should you buy?

Buy a 47 cm stand kettle when it stays in the garden and normally feeds four to six people. Move to 57 cm for six to eight people. An approximately 9 kg 47 cm kettle still has a separate stand and broad bowl to load. Buy a Smokey Joe for the lightest supported portable here and a round grate. Buy Go-Anywhere 1131004 when a rectangle, a folding-leg lid lock and 1,032 cm² suit the car. A small balcony is not, by itself, a reason to choose either portable.

Garden kettle or a bag you can lift

If it stays where you cook and four to six people are usual, keep the stand kettle. If it has to travel, the Smokey Joe is the lighter round portable and the UK Go-Anywhere is the rectangular one. Do not treat model 1500763 as the same supported Go-Anywhere. Products Compared compared amazon.co.uk listings with Weber UK specifications on 15 October 2026, with no laboratory carry or cook. Common questions

Smokey Joe or Go-Anywhere for camping?
Choose Smokey Joe for the lighter 5.48 kg round format and Tuck-N-Carry lid system. Choose UK Go-Anywhere 1131004 for a rectangular shape, 1,032 cm² area and folding legs that lock the lid. Your available boot space may decide more clearly than the small weight difference.
Is a 37 cm Smokey Joe enough for four people?
It can serve up to four when the menu fits its 948 cm² area, but space becomes tight with large cuts and several sides. If four people are routine rather than occasional, a 47 cm stand kettle offers 1,548 cm² and more flexibility.
What does the Go-Anywhere rectangle change?
The rectangular body packs against other boxes more efficiently than a round kettle and gives a long grate that can be divided into hotter and cooler areas. It is still a two-to-four-person portable, not a substitute for a 57 cm family kettle.
How heavy is a portable compared with an Original kettle?
Weber states 5.48 kg for Smokey Joe 1121004 and 6.78 kg for Go-Anywhere 1131004. Original 47 cm is 8.9 kg and Original Premium 57 cm is 18 kg. The stand and bowl shape make the kettles more awkward as well as heavier.
Are the two Go-Anywhere listings the same model?
No. The UK model is 1131004; imported model 1500763 names a char-rail, requires assembly and lacks the applicable manufacturer warranty. Compare model numbers rather than assuming the similar product name means identical support and equipment.
Do portable Webers include a thermometer and One-Touch?
The portable listings here do not name a lid thermometer or One-Touch cleaning system. They use dampers for airflow and portable ash arrangements. Choose an Original stand kettle if those named features matter more than easy transport.
