Ninja Woodfire pellets: the official scoop and the cheaper bags

Updated: 23 October 2026

The smoke box is open, the official 900 g bag is about £14.99, and a larger hickory sack is about £13.49. Ninja Woodfire pellets are a flavour scoop. The element makes the heat. Ninja says other brands may not ignite, and UK reviews both praise a cook and describe a fire that dies. This page stays on that electric grill. The wider table is the [smoker pellets comparison](/hub/grill-accessories/smoker-pellets). An 8 kg hopper bag is the wrong unit here. Prices are amazon.co.uk captures, not a lab. What the pellets do in a Woodfire

The Woodfire adds wood smoke from a small box. Ninja’s UK hints are plain: the pellets are flavour, not fuel. Load one full scoop. A session is about 30–90 minutes. The 900 g listing claims up to 20 sessions, which is Ninja’s arithmetic, not a count we weighed. One All-Purpose reviewer disputed the fill. That note is not a scale test. OG850UK tips say not to refill more than twice. Both captured Ninja bags are for Woodfire products. A Weber hopper, or a cook with the element off, fights the design. How to load the scoop without petrol is on how to use smoker pellets.

Robust or All-Purpose

Both official bags are about £14.99, titled 900 g, with 910 g on the details row, about £16.50 per kilogram. All-Purpose, B0BS74NV9X, model XSKOGAPBPL2UK, is the mild bag. Bullets say cherry, maple and oak. The flavour attribute says cherry only. The line is 4.7 from 560. Ninja aims it at fish and vegetables. Choose it when you want that milder official pellet. Robust, B0BS739N9X, model XSKOGRBLPL2UK, is 4.6 from 734. Bullets list hickory, cherry, maple and oak. The flavour field says hickory, for beef, pork and chicken. One long cook drew a neighbour’s complaint. A grill-cover review in the file is not about these pellets. Skip All-Purpose if you wanted hickory. The wider ranking is on best BBQ wood pellets.

When a cheaper bag shows up in UK reviews

If about £14.99 for about 900 g is the blocker, the substitutes are a mixed record, not a second official range. Ninja still says other brands may fail to ignite. A cook who says a cheaper bag works has not signed a test for Ninja. Exstream hickory at about 1.8 kg, B08FJGWJFZ, is about £13.49, at 4.4 from 276. UK texts often use it in a Woodfire or a Foodi and like the smoke. More weight, named hickory, a lower price than two official bags. It is still third-party. Skip it if you want the manual’s blend. The 610 g Exstream hickory, B0C69LT975, at about £9.49, is the size risk: reviews say pieces were too big, the fire went out, or a smoker clogged. Exstream cherry splits between a box that lights and tar on the lid. Tar is a reason to stop that bag.

What not to pour in

Do not pour heating pellets into the smoke box. A spruce or boiler sack is heat fuel, not the official flavour. Black smoke and a bitter resin note are the complaints attached to softwood used as barbecue smoke. The standards argument is on heating pellets versus BBQ pellets. If a review already says the pellets jammed a Ninja, believe that review over the word Ninja in the title. Use All-Purpose for the mild blend and Robust for meat. Both are about £14.99 and limited to Woodfire products. Move to the 1.8 kg Exstream hickory only if you accept the ignition warning. Leave any sack that leads with biomass, spruce or a 15 kg heat claim.

Common questions

Robust or All-Purpose?
Robust, XSKOGRBLPL2UK, is the stronger blend for beef, pork and chicken, with hickory in the flavour field and 4.6 from 734. All-Purpose, XSKOGAPBPL2UK, is milder, with cherry, maple and oak in the bullets and 4.7 from 560. Both are about £14.99. Each flavour attribute is narrower than the bullets. A close garden may notice Robust more on a long cook.
Do I have to buy Ninja pellets?
Ninja tells you to use Ninja pellets and warns that other brands may not ignite. There is no lock on the hopper. UK reviews show some third-party bags working and others failing. That is not an approval. Buy the official blend if you want the fewest fit arguments. Treat any other bag as a trial you can abandon.
Why are Ninja bags dear per kilogram?
You are paying for about 900 g, about £16.50 per kilogram at about £14.99. Weber beech is about £2.50 per kilogram because it is an 8 kg hopper bag at about £19.99. A cheap spruce kilogram does not give you twenty Woodfire sessions of hickory. It is a different product.
Which Exstream bag do reviews say works, and which clogs?
The 1.8 kg Exstream hickory at about £13.49 is the bag UK texts often describe positively in a Ninja or a Foodi. The 610 g bag at about £9.49 is the one reviews call too big, with a fire that goes out or a clog. Cherry at about £13.49 splits between a full box that lights and tar on the lid. None of that cancels Ninja’s warning.
How many scoops are in 900 g?
Ninja claims up to 20 sessions from the 900 g bag, one scoop each. The details row says 910 g. A reviewer who counted pellets was not running a weighed test we can repeat. Follow the one-scoop rule, and do not refill more than twice if you are using the OG850UK tips.
Can I use the pellets with the electric heat off?
No. The pellets flavour the food. The grill supplies the temperature. Switching the element off leaves a cold box and a little smoke. Use the electric cook and add the scoop for about 30–90 minutes. A cooker that burns pellets as fuel needs that appliance’s own fuel rules.
