Plancha griddle plate buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You already own a gas barbecue or a hob, and eggs, small fish, and chopped vegetables fall through the bars. A plancha griddle plate is the solid sheet or casting that sits on that cooker so the food cooks by contact. This guide is the order of the decision, not a winner's table. Measure the grate or the hob, choose a surface you will actually dry and keep, then look at what this amazon.co.uk set costs in pounds. The twelve listings are in the [plancha griddle plate comparison](/hub/grill-accessories/plancha-griddle-plate). Peter F. checked those listing fields on 20 October 2026. What you are buying

A plancha griddle plate in this set is an insert or a hob pan, not a complete gas plancha. UK round-ups put those cookers between £149 and £699. The Lodge LDP3, 42.5 by 24.1 cm, is a hob griddle. The round Onlyfire plate at about 47 cm names Large Big Green Egg, Kamado Joe Classic, and other 18-inch ceramics. If food falls through bars you already own, read the griddle plate for a gas barbecue before you trust universal. GOV.UK recall 2502-0151 is Emba cast-iron cookware only. Assimilated Regulation 1935/2004 still bars a harmful transfer into food.

Fit before material

Measure the grate opening, the lid swing, and the handles before the metal. Universal is not a size. Overmont's details list 51.2 by 23.5 cm, a bullet says 17 by 9.2 inches, and the highlight says 20 by 9.2. Seventeen inches is about 43 cm, not 51 cm. Onlyfire stainless says 40.5 by 32 cm in the title and 31.8 by 40.5 by 7 cm in the details. Match the line that agrees with a tape. GFTIME cast iron is 11.4 kg, a two-person lift off a hot grill. Onlyfire stainless is 3.15 kg. The DMJJSD pan at 24 by 17 cm is a tabletop pan, not an insert.

Surface in one pass

Once it fits, the surface is the care you will still do. Bare cast iron holds heat and rusts if it stays damp. Stainless here is lighter, and UK reviews of Onlyfire, WUDLEP, and DOBADN mention a cool face, flex, a warp, or a twist. The coated GFTIME plate names polytetrafluoroethylene and caps itself at 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Chemours say not to use Teflon cookware above 260 degrees Celsius, and that an empty pan can damage the coating above 348 degrees Celsius. Do not preheat it empty. On Overmont, a non-stick field means factory oil. On the coated plate it names the coating. The care split is on the cast iron or stainless plancha plate page. Lodge prints 212 degrees Fahrenheit, and Lodge's reseason is 450 to 500. A new plate that arrives warped is a Consumer Rights Act 2015 issue.

What these listings cost

These are the GBP shelf prices on the twelve amazon.co.uk listings, not every plancha in the country. Under £40: DMJJSD at £18.99, Overmont at £29.17, and the CosmoGrill XL at £39.99. From £40 to £55: the CosmoGrill XXL, WUDLEP, Lodge at £54.04, and two plates at £54.99. From £56 to £70: Onlyfire cast iron at £59.99, DOBADN at £66.99, the kamado plate at £67.99, and GFTIME cast iron at £69.99. A rule of thumb from this set only: hob griddles about £30 to £55, barbecue inserts about £45 to £70. Lodge's review file is a hob file. It does not outrank a plate that fits.

Common questions

What is a plancha griddle plate if I already have a barbecue?
It is a flat metal insert that sits on the grates so food cooks on a solid surface instead of over the bars. You use it for eggs, fish, chopped vegetables, and smash burgers on a gas or charcoal grill you already own. It is not a new barbecue with its own burners. UK round-ups put complete gas plancha cookers roughly between £149 and £699. The inserts in this amazon.co.uk set cost £18.99 to £69.99.
Which size line do I trust when the title and the details disagree?
Trust a tape measure on your grate, then the listing line that matches it. Overmont's details say 51.2 by 23.5 cm, a bullet says 17 by 9.2 inches, and a highlight says 20 by 9.2. Onlyfire's stainless plate says 40.5 by 32 cm in the title and 31.8 by 40.5 by 7 cm in the details. Universal is not a size. If the lines still disagree after you measure, ask the seller which figure is the cooking face before you order.
Will a rectangular plate fit an 18-inch kamado?
A rectangle is the wrong shape for that bowl. The listing that names Large Big Green Egg, Kamado Joe Classic, Kamado Joe Konnected, and other 18-inch ceramic grills is the round Onlyfire plate at about 47 cm, £67.99, and 7.55 kg. A 58 cm gas-grill tray will not drop into that opening. Measure the ceramic if your model is not in that bullet, because the name on the box is not a fit for every kamado.
Does universal mean it fits my grate?
No. Universal in these titles means the seller did not name your barbecue. You still need the grate opening, the lid clearance, and a size line that agrees with itself. A plate that is 42 by 28 cm for a named CosmoGrill XL is a clearer fit than a 58 cm sheet that claims most gas grills. If the lid will not close, the plate does not fit, whatever the bullet says.
What should I refuse to believe on the maximum-temperature line?
Refuse any cell that conflicts with the maker or with a coating limit. Lodge's amazon.co.uk listing prints 212 degrees Fahrenheit, while Lodge's reseason guidance is 450 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. The heavy GFTIME cast iron page prints 1,200 degrees Celsius, which is not a cooking target. The coated GFTIME page caps itself at 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Chemours say not to take Teflon-coated cookware above 260 degrees Celsius, and not to preheat an empty coated pan toward 348 degrees Celsius.
