Griddle plate buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have a gas barbecue, a hob, or a camp stove, and amazon.co.uk calls every flat pan a griddle plate. A 28 cm grill pan, a 24 cm Camp Bistro top and a 58 cm sheet are not the same purchase. A 4.8-star line on the small one does not tell you the large one will sit on your grates. This griddle plate buying guide sorts four types before you compare brands. The [griddle plate comparison](/hub/grill-accessories/griddle-plate) ranks the twelve listings, with GBP prices from amazon.co.uk on 20 October 2026. Four plates that are not the same product

A universal barbecue insert sits on grates you already own. In this set that is the Onlyfire F-BGG8201-SS-EU, cooking surface stated as 45.5 by 27 cm, and wider sheets around 58 by 40 cm. “Virtually any gas grill” is a marketing line, not a measurement of your cookbox. A model-specific insert is cut for one family. The two Onlyfire Spirit plates are that job. A highlight that says Spirit 400 while the title says Spirit 300 is a conflict. A reversible hob and barbecue pan is a long iron tray, about 42 to 51 cm by about 23 to 25 cm, flat on one side and ridged on the other. OVERMONT, nuovva, Dayacoco and NutriChef sit here. Campingaz 2214381 is about 24 by 22.4 cm for a Camp Bistro. Kordisen 0511 is a 28 cm granite-coated hob pan. A strong star line on either one does not cover a household gas barbecue.

Measure before you trust universal

Measure the cold grates, not the trolley. You want the clear width between the side walls, and the depth from the front lip to the back, with the lid able to close. A plate that stands proud stops the lid. A short plate dumps fat onto the burners at the gap. Write the centimetres down before you open a listing. Size lines disagree inside single products. The Onlyfire stainless plate prints 51 by 32 by 12.4 cm in the details, a cooking surface of 45.5 by 27 cm, and a title length of 47.2 cm. Use the outer size for fit. Do not average 47.2 and 51. OVERMONT’s details say 51.2 by 23.5 by 1.2 cm. The highlight says 20 by 9.2 inches. A bullet says 17 inches by 9.2 inches. Seventeen inches is about 43 cm, which is not 51.2 cm.

Hob, barbecue, or camp stove

A gas barbecue wants a sheet or a heavy pan under an open flame, with a lid above. A trough does not make flare-ups impossible, and it does not make indoor barbecuing safe. A hob is a contact problem. Prestige’s induction help says the magnetic flat base has to touch the glass. OVERMONT’s bullet says induction, gas, oven and campfire, and not a microwave. UK reviews disagree: some say the flat side works, one says the ridged side does not, and two say their hob ignores the pan. NutriChef reviews describe a rim about 1 cm high that lifts the base off the glass. The Campingaz bullet names Camp Bistro 3 and Camp Bistro DLX only. UK reviews also mention a Camp Bistro 2, a Halfords stove and a Hi Gear ZHG161. Those sentences are reviews, not the compatibility line. Two UK reviews report coating damage.

What to leave for the other pages

Bare cast iron holds heat and rusts if you leave it wet. A thin stainless sheet can sit far cooler than the dome unless the lid stays down. Ceramic and porcelain enamel are not a seasoning project. That choice is cast iron vs stainless steel griddle. Weber part 6790, at £189.99 including VAT, is outside these twelve ASINs and does not fit a 2025 three-burner on Weber’s table. If the title and the bullet still disagree after you have measured, buy the listing whose outer centimetres you can check. None of these twelve ASINs is in the GOV.UK Emba cast-iron recall. A cracked casting is a return under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if the goods are faulty.

Common questions

Is a griddle plate the same as a gas plancha?
A gas plancha in UK shop results is often a complete appliance with its own burners, such as a Weber Slate. A griddle plate here is a surface you set on a barbecue, hob, oven or camp stove you already own. If you already have a gas barbecue, you are choosing an insert or a reversible pan, not a second barbecue.
What should I measure before I order?
Measure the cold cooking area, side wall to side wall and front to back, and check that the lid can close over the plate’s height. Compare that with every size line, including a cooking-surface figure if the seller prints one. A star rating does not settle a centimetre.
Will a 28 cm grill pan cover a four-burner barbecue?
No. The Kordisen pan is 28 cm square and weighs 1.22 kg, a ridged hob pan with pour spouts. A 50 or 51 cm reversible pan can span two gas burners in UK reviews of nuovva and OVERMONT. A full insert in this set is the 58 by 40 cm class, and even that only fits if your grates measure up.
Can I put a rimmed iron plate on induction?
Only if the base stays flat on the glass and the hob detects it. Prestige says a rim or a disc that does not cover the zone will not be seen. If your hob is induction, treat the word induction in a title as a claim to test, not as a fit.
What if the title and the bullet disagree on centimetres?
Do not average them. Match the figure that describes the outside of the plate to the grates or the hob you measured. If you cannot tell which length will arrive, choose a listing with one size story or be ready to return it.
