Cast iron grill grate buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are about to replace a cooking grate, and the amazon.co.uk title says cast iron grill grate. That title can still be a stove plate, a campfire grid, or a Spirit part from the wrong year. This cast iron grill grate buying guide is the order of checks before you trust a star rating. The [cast iron grill grate comparison](/hub/grill-accessories/cast-iron-grill-grate) ranks the listings in this set. Measure the cold grate you already own, length and width, before you read a rank. Prices are amazon.co.uk listing lines. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are actually buying

Three objects share this search, and only one is the grid your sausages sit on. A cooking grate is the rectangle, or the pair, that drops into a named gas or charcoal barbecue. Fallen Fruits FF233, at about £22.50 and about 34 cm, is a campfire grid with legs, and the gaps are wide enough that smaller food falls through. SUMTree is 19 × 19 × 0.7 cm at about £10.99, and SUMNACON is 27.5 cm at about £14.99. UK reviews on those plates mostly describe log burners and chimineas.

The checks

Match the year and the control position before the metal. Weber’s EMEA note says not to buy a part because it looks as if it should fit, and those part numbers are the UK and Ireland numbers. On Denmay, side knobs from 2009 to 2012 and Spirit 500 are in; front-knob E210, S210, E220 and S220 models from 2013 to 2017 are out. The rest of that chart is on Weber Spirit cast iron grates. Do not average two sizes that fight. Denmay prints 38 × 28.6 cm in the bullets and 44.5 × 26 × 1.4 cm on the item line. GLARETEX part 66095, at about £23.99, is the contrast: both lines say 47.6 × 33.7 cm. Count the pack against the cookbox. CosmoGrill 90111 is one grate at about £39.99, and the Deluxe and Pro 4+1 needs two. When the material field fights the title, as on Weber 8846 at about £102.13, use Weber UK for the metal (£134.99, porcelain-enamelled cast iron) and amazon.co.uk only for that shop’s price.

Three listings that show the checks

Denmay at about £28.99, 4.6 from 264 reviews, shows a useful year line and a size clash. UK buyers also report damaged boxes and a weld fault. One returned two sets before an undamaged pair arrived. A correct year does not guarantee an undamaged weld. CosmoGrill 90111 is the pack-count example: non-stick no, dishwasher no, 4.9 from 26 reviews. Models 93411 and EL-2014DH need two grates, so a full cookbox is two orders unless you are replacing one half. The one-year parts warranty covers manufacturing issues, not the wrong model. SUMTree at about £10.99 is the wrong object. The size lines agree, and a UK review still says it missed a Weber Master-Touch. At 600 g it has been used as a stove fire bar, and one buyer said it warped into a bell shape. The star line is 3.4 from 18 reviews.

What to do if it does not fit

A grate that misses the model the listing named is a description problem, not a seasoning problem. Oil will not close a gap on the ledge, and a heat cycle will not stretch 19 cm to a kettle. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires goods to match their description and to be fit for a purpose you made known, where that purpose was part of the sale. If the bullets named a Spirit E310 and the pair rocks, that is the description. If the bullets named a chiminea and you hoped for a Genesis, the listing did not promise the Genesis. Once a grate actually fits, the finish choice is porcelain versus bare cast iron.

Common questions

How do you know a cast iron grill grate matches the barbecue?
Name the family, the year, and where the knobs sit, then measure the cold grate you are taking out. Weber UK part 7522 is for a Spirit 200 with side-mounted controls, a Spirit 500, and Genesis Silver A, at 1.3 × 28.5 × 38 cm. A title that only says Spirit does not meet that test. Compare one size line you trust with the tape, and do not average a second line that disagrees.
What if the listing prints two different sizes?
Treat them as a conflict, not as a range. Denmay’s bullets say 38 × 28.6 cm each and the item line says 44.5 × 26 × 1.4 cm. Those cannot both be the grate in the box. Measure the cold original. If it matches one line, ignore the other and check the parcel. GLARETEX is the cleaner pattern in this set, with 47.6 × 33.7 cm on both the title and the item line.
Do you need one grate or two?
Read the pack against the cookbox, not against the photo. Most Spirit and Genesis replacements here are sold as a pair. CosmoGrill 90111 is one grate at about £39.99, and the listing says the Deluxe and Pro 4+1 needs two, so a full surface is two orders unless you are replacing a single half. A pair that is the wrong year is still the wrong pair.
Should you trust the material line when the title disagrees?
Use the line that a brand page can support, and treat a clash as a reason to slow down. Weber 8846 on amazon.co.uk says cast iron in the title and alloy steel in the material-type field, at about £102.13. Weber UK calls part 8846 porcelain-enamelled cast iron at £134.99. The brand page is the specification. The amazon price is only the amazon price. A wattage figure on a grate page is not a specification you can cook with.
What do you measure on the old grate?
Length and width, cold, after the grate is off the barbecue. Include the frame that sits on the ledge, not only the bars in the middle. Write the numbers down next to the year and the knob position. Then open the listing and find one size line. If a second line disagrees by several centimetres, as on Denmay, you do not split the difference. You either match one line and inspect the delivery, or you leave the listing.
