BBQ cover buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

A barbecue that stays on a UK patio through October rain needs more than a title that says heavy duty. You need a shell that matches the shape you own, clears the size you store it at, and stays tied down when wind gets under the hem. This BBQ cover buying guide puts those checks in order before denier or a star rating. The [barbecue cover comparison](/hub/grill-accessories/barbecue-cover) holds the twelve amazon.co.uk listings, from £7.99 to £34.99 on the 19 October 2026 capture. Peter F. put the checks in that order. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with shape

The first check is the cut of the cloth. A round kettle and a gas trolley are different products even when both bullets mention Weber. In this set the only round cover is the RICHIE listing whose brand field says PJDH, about 73 × 71 cm, 260 g, at £13.99. Everything else is a rectangle. Short rectangles sit around 76–90 cm. A typical trolley cluster is about 132–147 cm. Wider sheets are Ezilif at 165 cm and BEEWAY at 170 cm. A 73 cm circle will not dress a four-burner with side shelves, and a 170 cm sheet is spare cloth on a compact kettle. If you already know you want a round kettle cover rather than a trolley sheet, start with round BBQ cover or rectangular gas cover.

Then a real size

Size is the second check, and it is three measurements with the lid shut and the shelves in the position you store them: length, depth, and height. Do not average two figures that fight inside one listing. GrillTough’s title is 147 × 61 × 122 cm and the item line is 138 × 60 × 108 cm. Grillman’s title length is 132 cm and the item line is 109 cm long. Flintronic’s 30 × 2.5 × 23 cm line is a packed size beside the 76 cm title, not a second cover. Awkward side shelves belong on the how to measure a BBQ for a cover page. Kauytt, both Ezilif sizes, YOTOM, KHAMAL, and both BEEWAY lengths already agree with themselves. Agreement is not a fit guarantee. It only means the page is not arguing with itself.

Fastening, then cloth and weight

Once the box is the right shape, look at how it stays on. A hem cord plus straps or buckles is the pattern that survives a gust. Reviews on the lightest covers say a cord alone lets the sheet blow off. The round cover is the lightest here at 260 g, and one review says the cords do not hold. Denier is the weight of the yarn, not a waterproof score. A 420D Oxford cover can still be light: the round cover is 260 g, KHAMAL is 560 g, and Ezilif’s 165 cm cover is 420D and 840 g. The two heaviest covers here are Grillman at 1.83 kg and GrillTough at 1.52 kg. PU, PVC, or vinyl is the water claim you can actually read.

Shared star lines and waterproof wording

The last check is whether the star line belongs to this size. Both BEEWAY lengths show 4.4 from 4,563 ratings, the same opening reviews, and the same hero image. Both Ezilif lengths show 4.6 from 735 and the same opening reviews. Those are family figures. GrillTough’s 4.7 from 9,120, Grillman’s 4.6 from 46,986, YOTOM’s 4.3 from 1,794, and Kauytt’s 4.6 from 211 are separate pools. KHAMAL’s 4.6 from 44 is its own line, and 44 ratings are too few to treat as a winter. A waterproof sentence on the listing is a public claim. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 9, satisfactory quality includes durability. That right matters when a cover sold as waterproof lets rain straight through. It is not a promise that the cavity under a sealed cover stays dry. No water-column rating, British Standard, or UKCA mark is printed for these covers. Fits Weber is a size hint beside Char-Broil or Nexgrill, not the Weber part.

Common questions

Does 420D mean the cover is waterproof?
No. 420D describes the yarn weight of the Oxford cloth, not a laboratory water column. Waterproofing, where it is stated, is the PU, PVC, or vinyl coating. A 210D cloth with a PVC lining, such as Kauytt, is a stated coating on a lighter yarn.
Why do two BEEWAY sizes show the same review count?
The 132 cm and 170 cm BEEWAY files show the same 4.4 from 4,563, the same opening reviews, and the same hero image. You cannot add the two counts together. The same pattern applies to the two Ezilif sizes, which share 4.6 from 735.
Is a £8 cover a false economy?
YOTOM at £7.99 is the floor of this set, with agreeing lines at 147 × 61 × 117 cm and 4.3 from 1,794 ratings. The material field says Oxford, with no denier and no named coating, at 431 g. Reviews split between rain that beads and cloth they call thin.
What does a storage bag change?
A bag lets you take the cover off, dry it, and keep it in the shed. Kauytt, KHAMAL, Flintronic, and both BEEWAY listings state a bag. YOTOM says the cover folds into a bag. GrillTough and Grillman do not state one. The bag does not stop condensation while the cover is on the barbecue.
When does the Consumer Rights Act matter for a cover that leaks?
Section 9 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 treats satisfactory quality as including durability, and a public waterproof claim is part of what you were sold. A cover that lets rain through soon after delivery can be rejected within 30 days. Rust from moist air trapped under a cover that did keep the rain out is a different problem.
