Mains or battery water butt pump

Updated: 23 October 2026

The shed has no socket, or it has one and you are staring at an £82.95 Gardena that looks cheaper than the bother of a cable. A mains or battery water butt pump is that fork, and the solo price is the figure that usually misleads. In this amazon.co.uk set the corded Gardena 4000/1 includes a UK plug. The 18 V Gardena 2000/2 solo does not include a battery. The sticks are a third option only if you will carry them. The full table is the [rain barrel pump comparison](/hub/garden-watering/rain-barrel-pump). No pack was timed. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What each price leaves out

Read the included-components line before the litres. The corded Gardena 4000/1 is about £79.99 with a UK plug on the listing title. Gardena's UK page states 400 W, a 10 metre cable and IPX8, which the amazon spec table does not show as watts. You still add an outdoor extension if the butt is beyond that cable, and a 30 mA RCD. The Gardena 2000/2 solo is about £82.95 and it is not ready to run. The box is the pump. A POWER FOR ALL 18 V pack is extra, and this page does not price that pack. Maker figures of up to 2 bar and 20 metres are not on the amazon.co.uk spec table. The shaft is 56 to 76 cm. The buying guide covers shape and sprinklers.

Minutes on a 2.5 Ah pack

The Gardena manual for article 14602 gives three modes on a 2.5 Ah pack: about 70, 35 and 18 minutes from low to high. A brochure quotes 65, 35 and 18. Low is about 0.4 bar, middle 1.3 bar and high 2.0 bar. Use those figures only for a 2.5 Ah pack. A UK review on a 4 Ah pack still found it short. The battery unit must not be immersed, and a stick does not inherit that table.

Sticks, diesel and a Bosch pack you already own

The sticks in this set are transfer pumps. The Seesii C1331 is about £85.99 with two batteries, and the title mentions diesel. The head on that listing is 5.6 cm, and one UK review could not get it into most barrels. The SWTHM is about £50.99 with an EU charger in the kit bullet, and the listing says it is not for diesel. The EID is about £25.99 without a Bosch 18 V battery. An EU charger does not belong in a BS 1363 socket. A Bosch pack you already own makes the £25.99 EID a real purchase. Keep diesel and vegetable water on separate pumps.

When to take which

Take the corded Gardena 4000/1 if you have an outdoor socket and you want the pump to stay in the butt. The best water butt pump page argues that choice, including the extension lead. Take the solo if you already own a POWER FOR ALL pack and the 56 to 76 cm shaft reaches the water. The cost is the £82.95 pump plus the pack. Take a stick only when the head fits the lid and you have neither a socket nor a matching pack. Prefer the Seesii C1331 over the SWTHM for a charger you can use in the UK. Take the EID only with a Bosch 18 V pack you already own.

Common questions

Is the £82.95 Gardena ready to run?
The £82.95 Gardena 2000/2 is the solo, so the battery is not in the box. You need an 18 V POWER FOR ALL pack, and this page does not price that pack. The amazon.co.uk listing prints 2000 litres an hour and a shaft of 56 to 76 cm. Up to 2 bar and 20 metres come from Gardena's own page and the manual, not from that spec table.
How long does a 2.5 Ah pack last on the high setting?
On the Gardena manual's figures for a 2.5 Ah pack, the high mode is about 18 minutes, at about 2000 litres an hour and 2.0 bar. The middle mode is about 35 minutes, and the low mode is about 70 minutes. A brochure quotes 65, 35 and 18 minutes. Those times belong to a 2.5 Ah pack. A UK reviewer using a 4 Ah Bosch pack still found the run short on hanging baskets.
I have no outdoor socket. Which row is honest?
Without a socket, the corded Gardena, the Draper and the VEATON wait until an electrician adds one. The Gardena solo is the cordless buy if you already own POWER FOR ALL. The EID at about £25.99 still needs a Bosch 18 V battery. The SWTHM's EU charger is a poor match for a UK socket.
I already own POWER FOR ALL. Does that change the solo?
It changes the solo from an incomplete price into a pump you can run. The £82.95 is then the pump, and the pack on your shelf is the battery the box left out. Check that it is the 18 V POWER FOR ALL system, and read the manual's minutes for a 2.5 Ah pack before you assume your pack lasts the same. The battery unit stays dry.
Is a stick the same as the 18 V tank pump?
A stick is a transfer pump you carry. The Gardena 2000/2 is a tank pump with a 56 to 76 cm shaft and the manual's three modes. The Seesii, the SWTHM and the EID do not inherit that runtime table. The Seesii head at 5.6 cm is a lid-fit problem.
What is wrong with an EU charger?
The SWTHM kit bullet includes an EU charger, and UK sockets take a BS 1363 plug. That charger is not ready out of the box. A travel adaptor is not a fix for a garden pump you will use in the wet. The Seesii C1331 includes two batteries. The EID assumes a Bosch pack you already charge in the UK. The corded Gardena 4000/1 arrives with a UK plug.
