Wall mounted garden shower

Updated: 23 October 2026

A wall mounted garden shower in this set is a plumbing fitting. It does not heat water, and it does not include the pipes. A bucket pump is the wrong substitute if you are ready to plumb. Portable picks stay on [best outdoor shower UK](/hub/garden-watering/outdoor-shower/sub/outdoor-shower-best). The type choice is the [outdoor shower buying guide](/hub/garden-watering/outdoor-shower/sub/outdoor-shower-buying-guide). If you skip pipes, [solar shower bag or pump](/hub/garden-watering/outdoor-shower/sub/outdoor-shower-solar-bag-or-pump) is the camping fork. What these two listings are

The YWBL-WH, B0GWFT1FXC, is £100.10, in 304 stainless, about 2.31 kg, and 5.0 from one review with no review text. That is not a test. The MOSSON, B09WMY179R, is £88.04, with 4.0 from 235. The review texts are marked United States, so they are not British owners. The bullets say 304 stainless, while another field says brass and stainless. The head is 8 inches, the height claim is 85 to 120 cm, and the thread is NPT 1/2 inch. Do not wire it from a stray AC/DC line. Both are cold unless you connect a hot pipe.

Steel, thread, and a UK wall

The British Stainless Steel Association says 304 is acceptable for many inland uses, and 316 is the grade for most marine sites. Both kits say 304. A coastal wall is where 304 is the weaker choice. A 316 shower outside this set has been listed around £1,195. That figure is context, not a row here. Drain the pipe before frost. The steel grade will not empty it. NPT is not a typical UK outside-tap thread. The MOSSON listing prints NPT 1/2 inch. Do not assume it meets a BSP tap. Measure the outlet before you drill.

Backflow, frost, and notification

England and Wales use the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999. A garden tap needs a double check valve inside the building, where frost cannot reach it. Water Regs UK describes outdoor Type HUK1 checks as installs from before 1 July 1999. If the head can reach a WC, the water is fluid category 5 unless a Type AUK3 air gap is kept: 20 mm, or twice the bore, whichever is greater. Regulation 5 can cover a pump over 12 litres a minute on the supply, and pipe buried outside 750 to 1,350 mm. Tell the water company before you alter the supply. Scotland and Northern Ireland use their own rules. A bucket pump is not on the pipe.

Drainage, planning, and the plumber

Homebuilding's sources send a clean rinse to a soakaway about five metres from the building, and shampoo or sunscreen to the foul drain. A simple shower on an existing wall often does not need planning permission. An enclosure can. In England, Planning Portal Class E sets height, curtilage, and listed-building limits. Listed buildings, flats, and homes in Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland need their own check. A plumber is the path once you want hot and cold on the wall.

Common questions

Can I fit the MOSSON set myself?
You might fix the bracket. Treat the water connection as plumbing. The listing prints an NPT 1/2 inch thread, a height of about 85 to 120 cm, and mixed metal descriptions. If your outlet is BSP, the threads do not match. England and Wales expect a double check valve inside the house on a garden supply. If you are not confident with that valve, the drain, and the isolation, hire a plumber. The 4.0 from 235 does not include British review texts in our file.
Is NPT the same as a UK tap thread?
No. NPT is a tapered thread used widely in the United States. A UK outside tap is commonly BSP. The MOSSON listing prints NPT 1/2 inch, so do not assume it screws onto the tap you already have. Forcing it can damage the joint. Ask a merchant for a listed adaptor only after you have identified both threads, or hand the job to a plumber. The YWBL kit does not come with a UK review that shows a successful connection.
Do I notify the water company?
In England and Wales, regulation 5 of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 can require notice before you alter a supply, including some pumps on the pipe and buried runs outside 750 to 1,350 mm deep. A new outdoor shower fed from the house is that kind of job. Scotland and Northern Ireland are not under those 1999 regulations. Ask your water company, and fit the double check valve indoors. A bucket pump that never joins the pipe does not trigger this.
Where does shampoo water go?
Homebuilding's sources send a clean rinse to a soakaway, about five metres from the building in their account, and send soapy water to the foul drain. Shampoo, conditioner, and sunscreen belong in the foul drain. They do not belong in a stream, a ditch, or a soakaway that only expected rain. Stand the shower so the waste cannot pond against the wall. A portable bucket is easier to empty into a foul gulley if you are not ready to build that drain.
Do I need planning permission?
Often a simple wall shower does not, and an enclosure might. In England, Planning Portal Class E covers many outbuildings, with limits on height, the curtilage, and listed buildings. Do not treat that as a promise that your enclosure is permitted. Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland run their own planning rules. A listed house, a flat, or a shower with a new hut around it is the moment to check the council before you build, rather than after the frame is up.
