The two empty carts

The Gardena here is the CleverRoll M Easy, model 18515-20, ASIN B076X38Q3X, at £79.99 with 4.5 from 2,030 reviews. You get a metal hose guide, a Kick&Stand, an anti-drip device, and two flat-free swivel wheels. The hose is not included. The Hozelock 2398, ASIN B000TAQZYQ, is £49.21 in the snapshot, with 4.2 from 1,936 reviews. The title is 60 m of 12.5 mm hose, with two fittings and no hose.Hozelock's page calls it wheeled and offers five years if you register. The Amazon line reads Aucune garantie.

Pulling and rewinding

On the M Easy the Kick&Stand is the foot you fold out before you pull. Reviewers call that trolley stable and praise one-handed rewind from the metal guide. A small leak after use is a repeated complaint. The 2398 has no Kick&Stand and no hose guide on Hozelock's empty-cart page, so you lay the hose with your free hand. Expert Reviews UK compared kits, a Hozelock cart around £75 and a Gardena metal set around £130, not these empty ASINs. Whether 60 m of thin hose fits is on hose reel cart capacity.

Hose size and connectors

The 2398 is 60 m of 12.5 mm hose, and a review says a 50 m Hozelock hose fits once wound on. Gardena's M column is 60 m of 13 mm, 50 m of 15 mm, or 35 m of 19 mm. Do not apply the 35 m figure to the Hozelock. The 2398 arrives with two fittings, and reviewers say Hozelock fittings seat more willingly than other brands. The M Easy listing does not state that fittings are in the box. How the joint goes together is on how to load a hose reel cart.

Which one, on what condition

Choose the M Easy at £79.99 when you rewind often and the hose is inside the M table: up to 60 m at 13 mm, 50 m at 15 mm, or 35 m at 19 mm. Choose the 2398 when you want about £45 to £50, the hose is 12.5 mm and near 50 to 60 m, and you will follow the sheet. It is the best value of these two on price, and the worse rewind if you wanted a guide and a foot. Draper and Specilite stay on the main comparison. The CleverRoll S at £51.99 is not a third winner here.

Common questions

Which is steadier when I pull the hose?
The CleverRoll M Easy lists a Kick&Stand foot for that pull, and reviewers on the ASIN describe it as stable when the hose is drawn out. The Hozelock 2398 is freestanding with a reinforced axis and does not list that foot. Expert Reviews found a foot helped a Hozelock kit against a Gardena metal set. Those were kits with hoses, not these empty ASINs. If you pull hard and often, the foot is the clearer spec.
Which is the better empty buy around £50?
Around £50, the Hozelock 2398 is the one of this pair. The snapshot is £49.21, and a later price the same day was £45.00 including VAT, with 4.2 from 1,936 reviews and two fittings. The CleverRoll S is £51.99, but it is a 40 m-class trolley without a guide in the bullets, and a 25 m hose only just fit in one review. The M Easy at £79.99 is the better rewind. It is not the £50 buy.
Do I have to stay with that brand's connectors?
You will have an easier first joint if you do. Hozelock reviews on the 2398 say Hozelock fittings fit, and other brands are the ones that fight the connector. The M Easy does not list fittings in the box, so an existing Gardena end is the path of least resistance there. An adaptor can join a sound hose to the other cart. Budget for a weep on that first test, and do not crank the drum until the joint is dry.
Is the CleverRoll M Easy the same product as the metal set in the magazine review?
No. Expert Reviews looked at a CleverRoll M Easy Metal set with hose, at about £130 in that article, against a Hozelock assembled cart with hose at about £75. The empty M Easy here is model 18515-20 at £79.99, with no hose, a listed weight of 3.8 kg, and a metal guide on that trolley. The empty L Easy Metal, model 18550, is another ASIN again, at £125.95. Do not move the magazine score across to B076X38Q3X.
What if my hose is 19 mm?
Treat both headlines as thin-hose claims. Gardena's M column drops to 35 m at 19 mm. The 2398 is specified as 60 m of 12.5 mm and has no 19 mm column on the pages used here. A long 19 mm hose is a capacity problem before it is a brand problem. Use the capacity page, and do not expect either cart to swallow 60 m of 19 mm hose because the title says 60 m.
