Hose reel cart capacity

Updated: 22 October 2026

The title says 40 m, 60 m, or 100 m, and the hose in your hand will not go on. Hose reel cart capacity on these empty carts is a diameter figure wearing a single metre number. Peter F. took the Gardena UK trolley table, the amazon.co.uk titles in the [hose reel cart without hose comparison](/hub/garden-watering/hose-reel-cart-without-hose), and the review lines that contradict those titles. The snapshot date is 21 October 2026. We did not wind every hose onto every drum. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Read the capacity for your diameter, not the biggest number on the box.

The three diameters

The thin hose these titles assume is 12.5 mm or 13 mm. The 2398 is worded in 12.5 mm, the Draper sheet in 13 mm, and Gardena's first column is 13 mm. The middle column is 15 mm. The thick column is 19 mm. Gardena prints S 40/30/25 m, M 60/50/35 m, and L 100/80/50 m, in that order. Gardena's M column goes from 60 m to 35 m, which is not exactly half. The L figure for 19 mm is stated without the hose guide. Fifty metres of 19 mm hose is already past that 35 m.

What each cart in this set actually claims

Amazon titles print the top number and stop. The CleverRoll S says 40 m. The M Easy says up to 60 m. Both L models say up to 100 m. The 2398 title is 60 m of 12.5 mm hose. The Draper 25060 is 45 m of 13 mm hose, and a UK review says a 50 m hose does not fit. The Specilite states capacity in feet, not metres. Other checks are on the empty hose trolley buying guide.

When the guide changes the number

The hose guide is not free space. Gardena's 50 m of 19 mm on the L trolley is the figure without the guide. Leave the guide on and expect less. A shop note on the empty L Easy says the guide suits narrower hose and the last metres of 19 mm catch. On the plastic L Easy, a 100 m by 1/2 inch hose is reported not to fit, and one crank broke on a tight wind. On the L Easy Metal, one review says a 50 m half-inch hose fills a trolley advertised around 100 m. The thin-hose pick is on the best hose reel cart without hose page.

If it still will not fit

Cut the hose to the column for that diameter and refit a connector. Buy the next cart up, knowing the L titles still fail a long half-inch hose in reviews. Or wind only what lies flat and leave the tail on the ground. Do not keep turning because the box said 100 m. The L Easy review of a broken handle on a tight wind is the concrete case. A 25 m hose that only just fits a CleverRoll S sold as 40 m is the same gap on a small cart.

Common questions

What diameter is a normal UK garden hose on these carts?
The thin hose these titles assume is 12.5 mm or 13 mm. The Hozelock 2398 says 12.5 mm. The Draper 25060 sheet says 13 mm. Gardena's first column is 13 mm. A 15 mm hose is the middle Gardena column. A 19 mm hose is the thick column, and it is the one that cuts the metre claim hardest. Read the marking on your hose. A reel of 50 m without a diameter is not enough to pick a cart.
Why does 100 m become 50 m?
Because the 100 m line is the thin-hose end of Gardena's L column, and 50 m is the 19 mm end of that same column, stated without the hose guide. The amazon.co.uk titles on the L Easy and the L Easy Metal only say up to 100 m. Reviews then report that a long half-inch hose, or a 50 m half-inch hose on the metal trolley, does not match the headline. The drop is the diameter and the guide, not a faulty tape measure.
Will the Hozelock 2398 take 50 m of 12.5 mm hose?
The title allows 60 m of 12.5 mm hose, and a review says a 50 m Hozelock hose fits once it is wound on. That is the thin hose this cart is worded for. It is not evidence that 50 m of 19 mm hose will fit. Hozelock does not print Gardena's 13/15/19 mm table for the 2398, so do not invent a 35 m figure for it from the CleverRoll M column.
Does the hose guide reduce the 19 mm capacity?
Yes, on Gardena's own wording for the L trolley. The 50 m of 19 mm hose is the figure without the hose guide. A shop review of the empty L Easy says the guide suits narrower hose and that the last metres of 19 mm catch. Leave the guide off only if you accept laying the hose by hand. Leaving it on and forcing 50 m of 19 mm is how the last turns bind.
What should I do if my hose is already longer than the honest figure?
Cut it to the column for that diameter and refit a connector, move up a cart size without trusting a 100 m title, or wind only what lies flat and leave the tail. Do not pack the drum until the crank binds. A tight wind is the condition in the L Easy review where the handle broke. Measuring the hose you have, before you order, avoids buying a 40 m title for a 25 m hose that already only just fits.
