Hose reel cart with or without hose

Updated: 22 October 2026

You either have a half-inch hose, or you want one parcel. A hose reel cart with or without hose is that fork, not a brand contest. Buy the hose in the box only if you do not already own a half-inch hose in the same click system. This page is from Peter F., editor for DIY & tools. Prices and review counts are from the saved amazon.co.uk listings in the [50m hose reel cart comparison](/hub/garden-watering/50m-hose-reel-cart). We did not pressure-test the hoses. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Why a 60 metre title can be an empty drum is in the [hose reel cart buying guide](/hub/garden-watering/50m-hose-reel-cart/sub/50m-hose-reel-cart-buying-guide).

What you are actually comparing

You are comparing box contents on the same class of reel. The empty Hozelock cart is capacity for 60 metres of 12.5 mm hose, two connectors, no hose, and you assemble it. The Ultramax cart is that reel class with 50 metres of hose already on it. On the saved listings the empty cart was about £49.21 and the Ultramax cart was about £92.94. The gap of about £44 is the hose, the nozzle, the connectors, and a built frame. Do not treat about £49.21 as the finished cost if you still need 50 metres of hose. Do not pay about £92.94 if a sound Hozelock hose is already in the shed.

Empty cart, if the hose is already yours

If the hose is already a half-inch Hozelock hose, the empty Hozelock cart is the better buy here. About £49.21, 4.2 stars from 1,936 reviews, two fittings, and no hose. A review says a 50 metre Hozelock hose fits. You still assemble it, and the support spring is easy to fit the wrong way. If the hose and the gun are Gardena, match them with the CleverRoll M Easy, model 18515-20, at about £79.99 with 4.5 stars from 2,030 reviews. No hose and no fittings. One review says a 50 metre hose fits. A 19 mm hose is the limit: Gardena’s UK page, not the amazon title, puts that class at about 35 metres.

Hose in the box

If you have no hose, the Ultramax kit is the one-box buy: 50 metres of 12.5 mm hose, a nozzle and connectors, at about £92.94, 4.2 stars from 330 reviews, and it arrives built. Reviews say the hose is heavy to rewind, so drain it first. Expert Reviews, on a related hose rather than a lab of this ASIN, treated Ultramax as the tougher hose. That is not a promise that it never kinks. Flopro states 50 metres of hose at about £59.13, with five reviews at 3.2 stars and one snapped inlet connector. Included hose is not the same as a named tap connector. The empty carts do not hand you a complete tap set, and the Draper list does not show hose ends.

One choice with a condition

Choose the empty cart when your hose is half-inch and the click system matches: about £49.21 for Hozelock, about £79.99 for Gardena. Choose the Ultramax kit when you have neither the hose nor time to build, at about £92.94, and you accept a heavier rewind. Choose Flopro only with five reviews as the limit on what you can know. The Draper 45 metre cart is the wrong length for this fork, and fittings were extra in a review. How you wind the hose is on how to use a hose reel cart. The wrong click system means a hose you will fight at the tap.

Common questions

When is the assembled 50 m kit worth the extra?
When you have no hose and you want the cart built. The Ultramax kit was about £92.94 against about £49.21 for the empty Hozelock reel of the same class. The extra pays for 50 metres of 12.5 mm hose, a nozzle, connectors and assembly. Reviews still say the full hose is heavy to crank, so the extra money does not buy a lighter rewind.
Is the Flopro the cheap way to get a hose included?
It is the lower price, at about £59.13, with 50 metres of hose and fittings stated on the listing. It is also 3.2 stars from five reviews, with one snapped inlet connector in that sample. Cheap here means a small sample, not a settled alternative to the Ultramax kit’s 330 reviews.
I already have Gardena fittings. Which row?
The CleverRoll M Easy, with no hose in the box, at about £79.99. You keep the connectors you own. The Hozelock kits use Hozelock fittings, so a Gardena gun is the wrong end to force onto them. The listing still does not name the diameter behind its up to 60 m line.
I already have a Hozelock 50 m hose. Which row?
The empty Hozelock 60 metre cart at about £49.21, for 12.5 mm hose, with two fittings and self-assembly. A review says a 50 metre Hozelock hose fits. The about £92.94 Ultramax kit would sell you another hose and another set of connectors you do not need.
Will a thick unburst hose fit the empty 60 m cart?
Fewer metres of it will. A 19 mm hose is not a 12.5 mm hose. Gardena UK’s CleverRoll M class is about 35 metres of 19 mm against 60 metres of 13 mm, and that split is the manufacturer page, not the amazon title. If the hose is the thick one, check capacity at that diameter before you wind it on.
Does included hose mean I can skip a tap connector?
Only if the included list names one. The Ultramax kit includes a connector set and a nozzle. Flopro lists a tap connector. The empty Hozelock includes two fittings and no hose. The Gardena trolley includes neither. Hose included is not the same line as tap connector included.
