Solar shower for a pool

Updated: 22 October 2026

You want a rinse for grass, sun cream and pool water before anyone walks into the house, and you do not want the hose lying in the paddling pool. A solar shower for a pool is a black column on the slab, filled from the house tap, on a sunny day. It is not a filter. The [35 litre solar shower comparison](/hub/garden-watering/35-litre-solar-shower) is the product table. We did not measure a chemical saving. What the rinse is for

Grass, soil and lotion come off on the slab instead of in the house or the pool. A page for a smaller tank that mentions less chemical treatment gives no measured saving. Do not turn it into a percentage. A 35 litre column can rinse for longer if the sun has warmed it. It still does not treat the pool. An enclosure with a screen is a different project from a column bolted to a slab.

Where to stand it

Put the column in full sun, with the hose run so the free end cannot reach the pool. Water Regs UK uses a hose in a pond or a bucket as a high contamination risk. A paddling pool is the same picture. England and Wales use the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own byelaws. A double check valve outdoors can freeze. Do not drop the hose into the pool. The fill order is on the how to use a 35 litre solar shower page.

Heat, children, and the evening

Sun on a black tank is the only heat. Class manuals say about 60°C can scald, and the casing can burn, so an adult tests the mixer before a child steps under the head. Start on cool. The 60°C line is the seller’s claim, not a forecast for a breezy afternoon. A 20 litre retail page says that shower loses heat within a couple of hours after sunset. That figure belongs to that product. For an uninsulated 35 litre column, treat the same fade as a rule of thumb: do not promise a warm rinse at 9pm. Mist or a rain head does not change the backflow rule. Shade beside the pool also gives away the heat.

Which kept shower states this job

tillvex at £129.99 names pool use and states a foot shower at 40 cm, a mixer, a rain head, a cover and 9.5 kg. The first 50 written comments are not marked United Kingdom. The conditional pick is on the best 35 litre solar shower page. Summer Fun states mist nozzles and a foot shower at £279.88, and does not state a mixer. Skip both Generic rows: the specification is 8 x 8 x 8 cm and 1 kg, even when the title says pool.

Bolt it down, or build around it

If you are only fixing a column to a slab you already have, keep the free end of the hose on that slab and accept that an evening swim is often a cool rinse. If you are adding a screen and a built-in drain, that is a shelter, and the listing will not answer the planning question. Use the 35 litre solar shower buying guide when the pool job is clear and the package line is not.

Common questions

Will this keep chlorine out of the house?
Only if people rinse on the slab before they go inside. The column does not capture chlorine. It gives you a place to wash pool water, lotion and grass off. A smaller retail page that mentions less chemical treatment does not give a number you can quote.
Should people rinse before they swim?
Yes, if the point is grass, soil and sun cream staying out of the water. Smaller solar showers are sold for that poolside rinse. It is a courtesy to the water, not a measured cut in chlorine. Do not quote a percentage.
Can the hose sit in the pool between showers?
No. A hose end in pool water is the contamination picture Water Regs UK describes for ponds and buckets. Hang the hose so it cannot fall in, and do not refill the shower from the pool. If you are unsure the outside tap is protected against backflow, ask the water company before you leave a hose connected all summer.
Is a foot tap worth it beside a pool?
It lets you wash feet at about 40 cm, which is the height tillvex states, without a full stand under the main head. Summer Fun includes a foot shower in the title and does not state the height. Without a foot rinse you use the main head for sandy feet.
How hot is too hot for children coming out of the water?
Test the water yourself, starting on cool, before a child stands under the head. Class manuals warn that 60°C scalds, and the casing can be hot in full sun. Coming out of a cool pool makes hot water feel harsher. If you cannot hold your hand in the spray, it is too hot for a child. The listing’s 60°C claim is not a target you should aim for.
Will it still be warm in the evening?
Do not count on it. A 20 litre retail shower is described as losing heat within a couple of hours after sunset. An uninsulated 35 litre column follows the same kind of fade, as a rule of thumb, not as a timed test of tillvex. A late swim is often a cool rinse.
